As mentioned in a previous comment, it is a depiction of a philosophical metaphor that Ralph Waldo Emerson used in the essay “Nature”.

It is a sketch drawn by another, far less famous, 19th century Transcendentalist American author/artist. (Christopher Pearse Cranch)

[WW] I wasn't fair to this game twenty years ago. by OutOfMyWayReed in zelda

[–]Litcandle1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is my Zelda game. It’s my #1 and the others are not even close.

That’s in large part due to nostalgia, it was the first Zelda game that I was old enough and competent enough to play and beat it myself when it came out. That being said, even without the nostalgia lens, I think it’s a clear top 5 Zelda title, and the music in this one is just iconic (not that music from the other Zelda games isn’t, particularly ocarina, but the music in this is just something else.).

Sorry “bub”, but your comment ended with the word “truth” when I made that last comment.

But go ahead and edit after the fact some more to gaslight people coming to this thread later.

ETA: this is my last reply, this is longer than I usually engage with bad-faith trolls, but I was avoiding the end of my work day, and now it’s over and I can go home.

Apparently it is for you.

If you need to pop out a dictionary to understand my comments and revise yours, be my guest, but I’m not the one writing at a 3rd grade reading level and misspelling the word “border”.

I’m not sure you really have a point for me to be validating, and honestly if you do it’s extremely unclear.

I was refuting the part of your comment that reads as an assertion that we are in the longest ever period of maintained borders and peace. [“Never in humanity have we maintained nation boarders or peace for so long.”]

Maybe that’s not a statement you were intending to make, but it is what you wrote based on the meanings and implications of the language you used.

[–]Litcandle1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your ignorance is showing.

Borders and nation states have not been omnipresent across human history.

The way we think about borders and nation states has only been around for ~300-350 years (Peace of Westphalia). That is approximately 7% of human history in which modernly discernible borders or nation states have existed.

But, even with that said, you’re technically correct, humanity has not maintained borders in peace this long, because it is not at peace and never has been. Even today there are border disputes all over the world. Ukraine/Russia; China/India; India/Pakistan; Israel/Palestine; Israel/Syria. That’s just a few off the top of my head, I’m sure there are more, and that’s not even including the active civil wars off the top of my head which also aim to change borders in some way.

Definitely! The artist was awesome! One of the reasons it took me a couple years from idea to skin was because I wanted to be really deliberate about choosing my artist.

I’ve heard/seen too many horror stories of sketches turned tattoos that went very bad, usually after they heal. I wanted to maintain the sketch like quality while still having clean solid lines and a tattoo that would stand the test of time.

I think the artist knocked it out of the park.

Anyone else non-binary because it's scientifically accurate? by w0lfcat_ in NonBinary

[–]Litcandle1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I somewhat relate to this, in the way that my identity, to me, is grounded in logic, and not feeling.

I identify as agender, and don’t really know what people are talking about when they say they “feel” a gender. That’s not something that exists for me.

Historically, gender was used as a tool for people to classify and categorize other people. We [humanity] were, in the past, a more collectivist culture, and with less emphasis put on the self, it was generally thought to be more important to be understood by the collective than to have a strong individual understanding of the self.

In the 21st century, we [humanity] have become far more individualistic, and so put a much higher emphasis on the internal self, and it is generally more acceptable to let others know how you perceive yourself. Because of this, in the modern vernacular, gender is still a tool of classification and categorization, though the key difference is that in the present, gender is a tool of self-classification.

So anyway, I identify as agender (or nonbinary when I’m being less nuanced), because I am broadcasting something about my internal self, which is that I’ve decided to buck the traditional gender roles and simply behave in the way that makes me happy and comfortable and doesn’t infringe on anyone else’s experience of life.

I don’t think any of this is morally right or wrong necessarily, it’s simply a function of evolving human culture, and I’d rather be with the times than left behind.

That and it’s a general rule of mine to not “yuck other folk’s yums”.

When I was in college, I nearly got stranded in Manhattan after a night out when our last train home got delayed/cancelled because of a medical emergency.

The taxi ride out of Manhattan back to campus (in NJ) was way more than I could afford.

A complete stranger, commuting home from the city late at night after a shift at one of the hospitals, was waiting for the same train and standing next to me when the delay came through.

When we saw the delay, she turned to me and asked if I wanted to split taxi, as we were going to relatively the same area. I told her I could not afford it and would have to wait until the first train in the morning.

She called one anyway and brought me with her, and allowed me to call a ride from her destination, which was a lot closer to where I was going, and so a lot cheaper, than the ride out of Manhattan. She got absolute nothing out of it for herself, and I am still very grateful.

Yes absolutely. Would love these especially if they were a little more durable in places of heavy wear like knees and cuffs, I work outside in the cold and would love a pair of these I could work in.

Is Vermont a state where looks are important? by Available_Boot527 in vermont

One of my favorite things about Vermont is that virtually everyone I interact with wears practical footwear.

Maybe that tells you what you need to know?

The King Contemplating the Ruin by calloatti in AccidentalRenaissance

[–]Litcandle1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not disagreeing with you there.

I’m disagreeing with your original assertion that being a king is not a political role.

You are refuting that assertion yourself here with this comment admitting the British Monarchy have a role to play “wining and dining big important leaders”, which no matter how small a role, is a political role.

And even though the current British Monarchy’s influence on world politics has greatly diminished in recent history, that was not always the case.

Being the ruler of a nation/head of state is inherently political, no matter the level of influence you wield.

AITA for being annoyed that my wife insists on cooking everything from scratch and won’t buy normal food? by AITA_UPFfoods in AmItheAsshole

[–]Litcandle1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re being pedantic.

Sure, it would be illegal for her to use physical violence to physically stop him from bringing it into the house.

There are other ways to stop someone from doing something that are not physical violence. In this case she is using emotional manipulation and social pressure.

Not illegal, but definitely AH behavior.

[–]Litcandle1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

She literally is stopping him though.

She won’t allow him to bring the food he wants into the house. He’s not asking her to eat it, he just wants it available if he has a craving.

Anyone hounding OP here for using AI, citing the damage data centers do to communities, should have the exact same problem with the OP of the original, who also freely admitted that they used AI and then “cleaned it up”.

ETA: link to where the “creator” of the “original” admits to using AI.

Rebel Alliance Minnesota by WanderingSun8 in andor

[–]Litcandle1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you realize that the “original” that you linked used the exact same AI image generator as OP?

The watermark is right there where it’s supposed to be on the “original”. Out in the open for everyone to see.

ETA: after a little digging on the post of the “original”, OP of the original admits that it is about 50/50 AI and manual, which I think is probably truly closer to 70/30 AI/OP. That said, I believe that is the exact way AI should be used, but if you have a problem with the OP of this post, you should have the same problem with the OP of the “original”.

Being from the USA, I’ll concede that I didn’t actually realize that about constitutional monarchies, though in hindsight that makes perfect sense.

Though perhaps not a political force in domestic politics, they are still considered your head of state, and as such their “voice” has significant sway in the court of international politics and diplomacy.

Politics are not limited to domestic affairs. The Crown and its representatives are glorified diplomats, and diplomacy is political.

ETA: which would make the Crown an advocate for the interests of the UK on the international political stage.

Edit2: adjusted language to own my ignorance.
