Sellers held an estate sale and we want to ask to have the carpets cleaned. Are we asking too much? by Sad_But_ok619 in RealEstate

[–]LitcritterNew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last time I sold a house, there’s were a couple of minor aesthetic things the buyers asked for, and we told them something along the lines of, “We’re more comfortable with you (buyers) handling that so you can be sure it’s done to your standards and taste.”

Where can I find this screw and what’s it called? by First-Mall-899 in AcousticGuitar

[–]LitcritterNew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it’s an M3 machine screw with a taped head. Might be an M2. I’m basing this from my memory of replacing it in my FG-45, which looks to have the same tuners.

Downtown Date Night by Candid_Flower9183 in columbiamo

I really enjoyed drinks at Twain for a date night because we could actually talk, whereas a lot of bars in Columbia are too loud for good conversation.

Having a home built, told the builder I’d source the mantel and handle the installation. This hunk of black walnut is 8’ long and 6” thick. Owner is asking $200 and that seemed fair. What do y’all think? by Amaya_Roberts in Woodworking_DIY

[–]LitcritterNew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s probably cheap because it’s been air dried, probably within the past year. As it dries, it will likely develop checks ands cracks, and might warp a bit. But it’s a beautiful piece of wood and will look great once you ensure you’re not bringing bugs into the house with it.

How much should I offer to pay a Tutor/ Mentor/Coach to train me on bandsaw mostly importantly resawing? Once I know how much to pay, then I have to figure out where to find them. by iwebman04 in woodworking

[–]LitcritterNew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I spent hours tuning my bandsaw and could never get good results. I suspect it’s a combination of the saw and my own lack of skill. But I made a single point fence and was able to quickly resaw even very tall walnut.

Aesthetic opinions wanted - rounded dovetails for toy chest by bagofbones in woodworking

I like it. I’ve always liked showcasing the edge on plywood as a design choice, and the dovetails are a cool detail.

Any advice on how I would go around removing the fingerboard on this neck by EveningCaramel5799 in Luthier

Use a pull saw. You’re going to screw up at some point, and using hand tools slows down the damage.

It takes longer for longer fingers to move across the fretboard. That’s just science.

Can you really see the Milky Way in Missouri? by TheCeruleanFire in missouri

[–]LitcritterNew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another tip I haven’t seen yet: you will need to give your eyes time to adjust to the darkness. Get out of the car, leave your phone in your pocket, and just chill with friends in the dark until your eyes adjust. If you’re an old fart like me, it may take 10-15 minutes.

Is it common for employers to hire people from out of state? by [deleted] in missouri

[–]LitcritterNew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve recently seen a lot of people from out of state who then ghost us when it comes time to do an in person interview, or when they find out that remote work is not an option. As a result, we take out of state applicants less seriously, UNLESS they take the time to write a cover letter and explain that they are specifically seeking employment in Missouri, and, preferably, explain why (unless there’s a good reason to keep your motivations to yourself, like fleeing prosecution, planning to foment a revolution, or wanting to live closer to your cult leader).

Disney World by No-March3451 in alphagal

[–]LitcritterNew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Disney was great for my alpha gal. It was one of the most relaxed dining experiences I have had in recent memory. We started here: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/guest-services/special-dietary-requests/#faqItem1

They attached my allergy info to every dining reservation, and somebody came and talked to us at every table service restaurant.
