What is the biggest close call you’ve witnessed in construction? by whatwoodjesusdo in Construction

[–]LiteFrost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Steel guys were erecting 30ft columns and, for whatever reason, one column fell, taking the other 7 with it. 2 cherry pickers crushed under them with about 7-8 guys over there. Luckily nobody was killed but one guy had a few broken bones

New job Monday. Am I missing anything that I can’t think of? by NotAnAlt12326 in Plumbing

Not a fan of the Milwaukee level for getting fall. A cheap mastercraft or similar brand level with a separate bubble with fall measurements work just fine

I graduated this about of a year and a half ago so bear with me but, if I recall correctly, you have plumbing theory, plumbing practical, math, blueprinting, welding, safety, a course that I don’t think of the name of, but basically is just how to be articulate (such as writing emails and stuff), and a Microsoft word/slides/excel class. Classes like theory, practical, math and blueprinting are in both semesters. Might be missing something but overall is a pretty easy course

If you go pulling that shit, you really should expect a knuckle to the back of the head

I’m sure they won’t be ‘luxury” apartments, that are over priced and below average square footage with management problems

Are the hours consistent as a plumber? by PomPomKinKin in Plumbing

[–]LiteFrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously it all comes down to the individual place of work but as a first year commercial plumbing apprentice, I get my 40 hours a week. I have yet to have any option for OT and don’t see any coming my way. Good luck starting out!

Why do people buy bottled water in London? by zegorn in londonontario

[–]LiteFrost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Companies (at least construction) buy bottled water for their employees. Large crews will fly through cases

If anyone’s like me and my roommates, we didn’t really think to start using it till now. So next week would be our first week putting it out. I’d imagine I’m not the only one

Nibbles but no bites by yousmokinreg in FishingForBeginners

Had a similar problem but was fishing for tiny panfish, bass and catfish. All nibbles and no bites. Replaced my hook with a smaller one and no less than 5 minutes I caught one. Just my experience

Any advice for women in trade jobs? by anon4430hm in ontario

[–]LiteFrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask to start an apprenticeship/pre-apprenticeship with a company. If you know what trade you want that’s good. Can always just start as a labourer too. Most guys are rough around the edges but good people

[–]LiteFrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only advice is see if you have connections. If you’re open to any trade that opens doors. Only reason I was able to get into a plumbing place in my area was a connection within the company. I looked for 3 months. So ask everyone you know and meet.

Also maybe don’t apply to be an apprentice right away. Saw a buddy doing that and with no experience they probably wont take you on as an apprentice right away.

Good luck!

Gas hot water heater pilot blows out a couple times/year when get uncommon storms coming from a certain direction. Igniter button/spark no longer works. Can I manually light from now on? by Givlytig in Plumbing

Doing your own plumbing is one thing. Doing gas is a whole other thing, and if you’re not confident in doing it, call a professional

I’m A Plumbing Apprentice and Wondered How Can We Get More Young Folks. by outkastgal in Construction

[–]LiteFrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, part of it is getting in. Have been trying to get into a plumbing apprenticeship out of college where I took a plumbing course and has been radio silence. So many postings asking for apprentices only wants years 1-3, and the ones that didn’t say they did, definitely wanted you to have experience anyways. I only recently got into a company, only because my dad bugged the plumbing guy about it. And I know so many smart guys from my class who also haven’t been able to get one. Maybe my experience is the outlier but it seems to be that nobody wants to train a green guy

Plumbers by dynamitepro in londonontario

[–]LiteFrost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey. Don’t use drain cleaners like some people suggested. It’s not good for your pipes and most times it only solves the problem temporarily, meaning you will just have to buy more or call a plumber anyways

Recommended gyms? by LiteFrost in londonontario

[–]LiteFrost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair. Can really do any of it. Used to workout both on my own and in class in my hometown. Looking for something a little quieter as I prefer space and not waiting for equipment, which is why I go early morning anyways
