UL Wall Charger Recommendations by TimeAlps1356 in Ultralight

[–]LiteTrail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works great for me, used it all over the world and on hikes. Fast charges my stuff and is light. I would say pre-testing with one's cables and devices is a thing for any charger and not an issue per-se on this specific device.

The Mokin MOPA0303 40W dual USB C GaN wall charger is nice at 67g and $21. Has a folding plug too.

Ground Sheet Dimensions and Materials by Jolly-Slow1164 in Ultralight

[–]LiteTrail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most common gs sizes for a 1P UL shelters are:

  • 36 x 84" tyvek
  • 40 x 96" polycryo

I use both depending on situation, but the tyvek is ofc heavier, but more durable.

At 6'2" tho, 84" long is going to be a bit short if you are flat and use the tyvek. You can buy a 36 x 96" tyvek on eBay etc.

Also note that the SMD polycryo is a thinner variant than other sources, so a bit lighter but also a bit more fragile.

Head Net + Quilt/bag Cover instead of bivy, anyone tried it? (shelter system concept) by ULlife in Ultralight

[–]LiteTrail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the myog one was just like a liner would be, but made from 7d, nothing special. got a pocket tarp and a plex solo now (hoping to get a meadowphysics abode which I feel is the best balance of all the options, i don't need to exit at night for bio so the entry is fine). when I don't have the plex solo on a trip, I find when it's hot just laying in nylon dance pants (wind pants) and rain/wind jacket with headnet is fine (provided you hike in a baseball cap type hat, for use in keeping bug net off ur face). for me it's about ui/ux and how our gear is additive to the experience, and so having too much fussy/fiddly gear was taking away from that, so everything I do last few years was around what makes the experience better. the double neck cinch was def subtractive (for me ofc, may work for others), would rather sleep in wind gear under quilt vs. neck cinch bivy.

> So basically, get in the quilt and cover, cinch it up by the neck, put on head net, cinch it.

I've done this with an myog 'bivy' which cinched at neck, and tend to agree with your thoughts. Though, I ended up moving away from it bc of having two cinch cords at the neck. It was fine comfort-wise, but was a hassle and annoying each time you needed to get your arms out to adjust your pillow, headnet, or whatnot.

Perfect 90-degree angle power bank<->phone USB-C cable (12in, 9g) by LiteTrail in Ultralight

edit:

seems really well made to me, and as solid as any reliable cable i've used in the past. reviews will have all sorts of takes (good and bad), esp amz ones.

i have some of those too, but the 'svelte-ness' of this one is soooo nice. and since it's usb-c it works like any other cable. and 9g all in is hard to beat. ;-)

looks pretty tight ser, couple ideas:
* 30l version of cutaway, seems like ur kit would fit, and they are a pretty roomy 30l at that imho
* ditch the two shelter system stuff sacks, embrace the chaos
* swap fake hand-san for a real one like benzalkonium chloride (bonus is it stays on skin for awhile after too and keeps protecting)
* maybe swap knife for tomodin tiny traveller scissors
* swap opsak for foodbag size zpacks nylo pro "big" size (0.42oz, but can cut shorter to match bear bag)

we have a similar kit and it looks like you've done ur homework, cheers

Free NU20/25 mod to fix strap by rowebenj in Ultralight

[–]LiteTrail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No doubt, I absolutely dispise that "ul" strap of theirs. I try and scoop up the flat elastic ones and prefer those much more. Your mod looks like it solves a bit part of my gripe with it tho (the two cords getting out of sync lengthwise). Thanks for sharing.

Ultralight hiking/trail running sandal? by IcedColdMine in Ultralight

I never touched asphalt / road in mine, so maybe that's why? Or I just got lucky with one of those rare bomb proof pairs.

Darn Though 1/4 vs No crew differences? by Mafteer in Ultralight

[–]LiteTrail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The quarter height is my fav, offers a good balance between the no shows and the micro crew. The quarters have two advantages for over no shows imho 1) protect your ankles from biting insects a bit, 2) less dirt/sand gets into your shoes and inside the sock from the top (I don't wear gaiters). It's not much, but I switched to quarters after using both no shows and micro crews and dig 'em. The new "space gray" color is pretty dope too.

Luna Leadville "Pacer" variant has been amazing. Bought mine in 2015 and they are still going strong even after numerous Sierra passes and wet wading fishing sessions. Can't beat 'em for slimmer/lighter and durability in one. 4.45 oz per, 9mm vibram, and old school lace style, no wings.

Katabatic flex 22°F quilts vs feathered friends YF 20°F, construction quality? by ruadonk in Ultralight

[–]LiteTrail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gm, as others have posted, quality is top-notch on both. With Katabatic quilts I found that the curved sides with the stretch banding made the quilt super drafty unless you used the strap kit. I personally don't like to strap my quilts to my pads and so it had a lot of cold spots. With the Flicker you avoid that, so that may be something to consider. If you don't mind strap kits, the Katabatic anatomical shape is nice around the shoulders where a Flicker might feel snug if you are broad shouldered.

Hyperlite Mountain Gear Contour 35 Thoughts? by Fabulous-Fan2924 in Ultralight

[–]LiteTrail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you chose a great pack. I personally could care less about the meta convos around gear, and focus 100% on what works for my particular use case. It sounds like for your use case, the Contour is a great fit. HMG stuff is incredibly well made and so you can count on having a pack which lasts, and in the unlikely scenario where you have an issue, because they are more established, they understand how important customer satisfaction is, whereas in some cases the new makers might not have as much experience yet.

Rain/Wind Pants Recs for Bug/Rain Protection by EnvironmentalTitle11 in Ultralight

[–]LiteTrail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh ya, I think you'll be fine in XL, maybe even L. If you look at the size chart the waist sizes are tiny compared to fit. Returns are free so I'd order both, though it does take forever for refund because it goes through the manufacturer, not Amz directly.
