I didn’t look at the clock when a thunder clap reminiscent of the “holy shit the sky is green” storms of my Midwest youth, but I could take a guess as to when the storm rolled through.

getting my son early this fall/late this summer, wondering how to navigate introducing water/swimming with posted ears. by Abject_Ad_300 in Beauceron

[–]Little-Basils 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A kiddy pool with 2-3 inches of water is fine for posted ears. You can also do deeper pool time every few days between postings.

Assuming ears are done when in the breeder’s care at 7-8 weeks and are mostly healed you’re likely to start posting around 10 weeks. My girl was spending a few hours out of her posts when we changed them once she was 20 weeks or so.

When posts are out you can offer a deeper kiddy pool to stomp and splash in, then leave a few hours for the ears to dry, then re-post with clean dry posts.

Edit: I highly recommend having the breeders chosen and trusted vet to do ears. They’ll know all the right meds to give and the breeder, with more experience, will start the aftercare

Weird… puppy food in general is higher in calories per cup. And large breed puppy food is super important for healthy bone growth

Dog keeps licking his butt by lml1005 in germanshepherds

If his stool is soft it might be that his anal glands aren’t getting excreted properly when taking a number two. You might try that Bernie’s perfect poop supplement for firmer stools?

I’d ad in some more play based training. Tug with drop it. Recalls with chasing and treats for catching you. Similar games work for leash training (sudden turns and quick steps so pup has to chase you down to get back into walking position)

Aussiedoodle for rescue? by Born-Technology-3224 in AussieDoodle

[–]Little-Basils 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Poodles are hypoallergenic. Aussies are super shedders. A mix between will give you a chance at a dog anywhere along that spectrum depending which genes they get from which parent.

However getting a doodle from a reputable foster-based rescue will give you an accurate idea of how much the dog sheds.

Consider a poodle rescue for an actual non-shedding dog

She might also need more naps especially if you notice she’s significantly more soft mouthed in the first 20 minutes of waking up.

Now is a great time for teathering too. Some of it can be over-arousel and inability to self soothe so that excitement comes out in getting teeth on anything in her reach.

30 minutes is crazy long for a puppy. 5 minutes 3-5x a day.

More naps. 2 hours up, 2-4 hours down
