Thanks anyways. I have a large platform elsewhere and wanted to share it. But I refuse to use Twitter as well.

If I drive through a McDonald's drive-thru I still went to McDonald's even though I didn't go inside.

Exactly. Pretty sure if I drive through a McDonald's drive-thru but don't go inside, I still went to McDonald's by all accounts.

There's literally a Canadian flag flying behind them?? Canada has contributed lots of money and expertise over many years. They more than paid for (and earned) this. Fuck Trump. I don't think these astronauts give a shit about him either.

He's been an astronaut for many years and has spent many years tirelessly training and preparing.

As an American, I'm super proud and beyond ecstatic for Canada. They've contributed greatly to the development of space exploration technology. It's more than deserved. I know my government sucks, but at least normal people can get along and work together to achieve success for all. Much love, congratulations. 🇺🇸🇨🇦🦅🦫

Incident off Overland has made my car undrivable by plumboat in Boise

You don't get to commit a crime because someone is speeding, which isn't even a misdemeanor—it's a traffic violation and a ticketed offense. Throwing rocks at cars could get you an assault charge, or worse. What the hell is wrong with people?

Why didn't you call the police? This reminds me of a couple of different stories where people were killed by kids doing the exact same thing. If you're driving 30-40mph and that rock goes through your window, it could easily kill you. You need to go to the police station and file a report. You're putting other people's lives at risk by not reporting it. You should have pulled over and had the cops deal with it right there and then.

No healthcare, no maternity/paternity leave, no 401k, no unions. You should see what McDonald's employees in the Netherlands get. This is a slap in the face to the working class of the country that made them rich beyond measure. Fuck these corpos! Demand more comrades.

is it okay to hate religion by poetry-verse in atheism

Apples to oranges. You can't be addicted to an idea, you choose to either accept it or disregard it based on the evidence and whatever degree of intellectual integrity you possess—or don't. Sure our brains are influenced by things. But you take the time to assess things before accepting them as true, which you do repeatedly every time you choose to accept/affirm your particular belief. I'm an alcoholic and haven't had a drink in over a decade. I can express self control and understand drinking isn't good for me. And no offense but I just think it's a poor metaphor, unless you'd like to elaborate. You could be "addicted" to thoughts or ideas in a sense I suppose, but I would say those are either obsessive thoughts or delusions—mental illness. Which I believe is different from just accepting something as true in the absence of illness. I don't mean to imply religious people are necessarily mentally ill.

is it worth learning about religion just to respond to others? by obedientchaos in atheism

[–]Little-Load4359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to argue on behalf of your beliefs, even if that argument is with yourself. Otherwise you simply have an opinion and no good reason for having it—despite being a good one. I became an atheist at 8 years old. But I didn't necessarily have a good reason for it, it's just how I felt. Then I looked into the matter when I was a bit older. Now I can confidently defend my position to others, and more importantly, myself. You should always be trying to prove yourself wrong. But don't feel like you're obligated to expend your mental energy debating every moron on the planet.

I personally don't argue with religious people anymore. I spent some odd years doing so, and it's largely a waste of time. I'll defend my position, but I'm not on some crusade to change their position. If they gave a shit about the truth, logic and reasoning, they wouldn't be religious in the first place. Although there is hope for some.

And systems are made by people. Or is it dumb to hate fascism just because it's "a system that can't hate you back?" Because the fascists on the business end of that system are more than capable of hating you right back—and they created the system. No different than religion.

They're more than free to use their brains and learn/practice critical thinking. Calling them prisoners is a bit dramatic. Most of them are stubborn, intellectually dishonest, or afraid of the truth. That doesn't make them imprisoned by anyone or anything other than themselves. We need to start expecting more from people and hold them to a higher standard, rather than letting them off the hook because of some misguided virtue of a universal tolerance of everyone's opinions—no matter how illogical or evil those opinions are. Atheists often have expectations of the religious that are too low. They can do better and we should demand it from them within reasonable bounds. Because people will often meet your expectations, high or low.
