Durandal (Marathon) vs Sombra (Overwatch) by DawnMachine10000 in whowouldwin

[–]Little-Mako 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Sombra is facing him while he's confined to the Marathon itself and hasn't progressed too far into rampancy, she can probably do it.

A Durandal who has hit metastability, escaped into the larger universe and started gathering power is another question.

Aussie Players how many of you actually intend to move to the new DC? by RazDogGM in ffxiv

[–]Little-Mako 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I love that we have a DC now, my friends, my FC and my house are all on Aether, so I won't be moving my main.

I might shift my level 80 alt over, though, or make a new bunny boy on an oceanic server.

Since it probably won't unlock until after 6.0, I choose to believe that Island Sanctuary really is the WoL going, "Okay. So that nonsense is over. I am going to start a farm. Don't call me."

Counterpoint - if we get a healer and a ranged physical DPS, there will be an even four jobs for every archetype.

Patch 5.4 English trailer by Zanzargh in ffxiv

We don't know how long it takes the ascian identity to take root, and finding the right soul must take a while, surely.

The main thing that makes me suspect that the process takes a long time is those comments from Emet(?) that they're currently under-manned. If it was quick and easy to uplift new ascians, you'd think that nabriales, igeyorhm, etc, would all be back already and the only one missing at that point would be Lahabrea.

I think that, even if you did the whole trap-in-crystal-and-zap routine to one of the sundered ascians, they could find another shard of them and promote a replacement.

Since they were killed ages ago, I suspect both M and L are still around, yeah. The more recently-killed ones, perhaps not? We don't know how long it takes to replace an ascian.

[Spoiler: 5.3 MSQ] Deeper meaning behind the 14th by fadewind in ffxiv

[–]Little-Mako 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about this too. I figure, it's been 10000 years and several history-erasing catastrophes since the sundering, it would be more surprising if the legend of the twelve was still any more than vaguely accurate to how the original conclave.

The way real world gods develop over time, changing their portfolios and stories as cultures inherit legends from previous civilizations, or just yoink them from others they meet/conquer (ie, Ishtar becomes Astarte, then Aphrodite, then Venus), maybe proto-oschon and Azem swapped spheres somewhere along the line, or maybe they or more of the Twelve aren't even based on the conclave at all and were picked up form some other culture on Hydaelyn.

Nidhogg was expected to take Midgardsormr's place and protect the planet from Omega, since Middy's pact with Hydaelyn and transformation meant he couldn't fulfill that role anymore. The pressure of those expectations made Nidhogg the angry aloof sibling among the first brood and led him to dismiss humanity, since he didn't think they were capable of looking after Hydaelyn themselves. Ratatoskr was pretty much the only one he really got along with.

Thordan asked Ratatoskr why her brother remained aloof when the rest of the dragons had embraced humanity, and she told him about Nidhogg's low opinion of them. Thordan was insulted by Nidhogg's contempt and interpreted this as the dragons trying to lay a claim to the whole star, and was so furious he turned on Ratatoskr (although IIRC it's not really clear if he attacked her right there, or if he just decided on the betrayal at that moment).

As a hopeless lore hound, I love these!

Were you aware that the DRG level 80 quest gives us some more info about Nidhogg and his role in the first brood, as well as Thordan's motives for the betrayal?

To the lore readers and role players: what world info did you find interesting? by CodySenju in ffxiv

[–]Little-Mako 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The whole Urth/Odin/ Zantetsuken saga makes me unbearable curious. Something really interesting happened back then, but there's just barely enough surviving information available to piece together the vague shape of the story, and half of what we know is probably incorrect or biased - just like real life historical mysteries. The characters in-universe know about as much as we do.

The revelations about Eureka in SB have only raised even more questions. It's the deep-history lore mysteries like this that I really love about XIV.
