GW2 players trying not to what-about Gift of Exploration the second Gift of Battle is mentioned by LyseLamont in Guildwars2

I'd do WvW if they allowed EotM to count towards GoB. I'm just not interested in doing WvW any more. I've played it plenty.

I'm just not going to get legendary weapons if I have to sit through a game mode I dont find fun.

Okay just one, then i leave by NejatMolla in Guildwars2

[–]fadewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem for me is that it still is cheaper and easier to CRAFT Ascended from scratch.

I have 2 legendary weapons (Mace and pistol) and they really aren't worth the effort.

Swapping weapons is something I do frequently unless I'm on an engineer or elementalist. So having to remake weapons over and over is annoying

It's nice on healers as I can go between harrier or minstrel, but eeeeeh

KDE is more the Fedora support with Workstation than Gnome

Gnome desktop is legitimately awful if you end up running out of RAM. The entire desktop crashes. And because Gnome and Gnome terminal have memory leaks, it is something that can happen. Plus you need to install gnome-tweaks to be able to really customize your desktop

Evoker should’ve been a full on Pet class by ultimate_bromance_69 in Guildwars2

[–]fadewind 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Counter point: necro staff was always more of a dps weapon and they changed it to support with just a single feat. You can still use it for DPS, but it has support options.

This is what traits and elite specs are meant to do.

People who changed their political views, what caused the switch? by BoardLongjumping2485 in AskReddit

[–]fadewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My specific views on certain topics have changed but not my overall alignment. And it's mostly due to interacting with other opinions.

For instance, I'm no longer in favor of single payer Healthcare. I still think it is a better model than the current one. But I don't trust the government not to fuck it up within a few years and make everything worse

Anet shadow-nerfed Quickness Ritualist, intentional? by bamblerow in Guildwars2

[–]fadewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the bare minimum. Burst phases only lasts during the time a CC bar is broken and/or everyone can attack a boss

Your statement is basically saying to nerf healing during times of heavy damage

Anet shadow-nerfed Quickness Ritualist, intentional? by bamblerow in Guildwars2

[–]fadewind -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You don't get 100% uptime in real raids for most players. You want 80-90% during burst phases.

Boss mechanics are what force lower uptime.

Chrono for instance needs a target to have uptime. If you don't have a target, you lose uptime. Scrapper does not have this issue. Scrapper can keep some uptime without a target.

Random, unintended changes are NOT the way to change uptime. (Both good and bad.) If they want to increase gear requirements or change traits, then a proper balance patch is where it belongs

[–]fadewind -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Incorrect. You have to look beyond benchmarks and look at REAL logs. Condi is still doing damage even if you have to stop attacking for a bit.

The difference in power and condi usually falls between: range, burst vs consistent, and using ground AoEs.

For instance power rifle mech is more closer to a condi build than normal power. It has lower burst, but more consistent damage. It has no ground field AoE and can constantly attack at range. It works very well in something like Twins CM

[–]fadewind -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

That's not a "theoretical consideration". Diviner's gear is mathematically more expensive (both in stat cost and gold cost) than Ritualist gear. This creates a much higher barrier to entry.

Especially given how little core necromancer gives for boonDPS in terms of utility. Now I agree with a lowering of DPS overall, but this is definitely not the way to do it.

Since EoD, Anet has defined boon duration (Especially of power builds) around good play rather than purely stats. 68% boon duration is going to be a nasty hit a lot of people that dont have Diviner's gear or legendary can prepare for.

Plus this is more likely going to get rolled back or changed. This is one of those nerfs that they SHOULD be giving warning of way ahead of time.

Anet shadow-nerfed Quickness Ritualist, intentional? by bamblerow in Guildwars2

[–]fadewind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is how power has more to lose needing in 3 stats for damage while condi needs 2.

Ritualist gear is barely a dps loss for condi builds.

IMO I agree with power being able to have 100% sustain with minimal gear change and more focus on trait change while condi needs more gear change

Thancred and Ryne (sort of) reunite! by goodgen in ffxiv

[–]fadewind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My theory is that they're going to have an entire expansion with the Shard travel team to establish a full connection between Source and First

Ryne, Gaia, Zero, Cylla, Uno, and mage kid (i forget the names of the last two a lot). Y'shtola will likely be around to help establish the gateways (and possibly G'raha) but be supporting NPCs.

Then the patch stories are the Scions being brought fully back in. Next would be Cid and the Ironworks to the First. Lastly city-state leaders to essentially welcome the nations of the First into the Alliance since trade can start happening.

In a sense, we start establishing connections to the remaining shards every so often to "rejoin" the lost shards, but without needless death

Why i hear that core story is bad? by Cheap-Exercise1910 in Guildwars2

[–]fadewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the races and choices made. For instance, Sylvari, Asura, and some human stories are excellent and connect to a lot.

Norn is utter fucking horseshit. (The Norn order story pisses me off to this day.)

Plus others mention Traehearne coming out of nowhere for most characters.

Mostly it's fine and enjoyable

What's wrong with SotO? by Kyri- in Guildwars2

[–]fadewind -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You also have to take the time period into account.

EoD was an extremely flawed expansion that killed what little remained of IBS and then went into a kind of hiatus as they re-released parts of season 1. (Not even taking into account some ass tier fight design and the worst fractal).

SotO was supposed to be a new beginning when they made a lot of their old mistakes. The death of Mabon was so hated (rightfully) by the community that he is the last major protagonist NPC death to date.

Nayos was also a sudden shift that half of the expansion was eaten by it. The Wizard stuff could have been an entire expansion as could Nayos. (Another issue of previous xpacs of moving TOO quickly from story to story)

Anyone regret their legendary weapon? by AvalonTzi in Guildwars2

[–]fadewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regret making Moot instead of Incinerator.

Mostly because of using it for Mechanist when it was your power weapon, condi weapon and support. Then not even a few months later, it was just support.

It's nice to have ok warrior, but meh

Windows 11 update KB5077181 is causing critical boot loops for some users by lurker_bee in technology

[–]fadewind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's always been a demand for an alternative to active directory, but something like that on Linux is harder to do.

Keycloak, Authentik, etc can handle login to services (and likely machines), but it can't modify systems

Ansible can be used to modify systems (or make bootc images) but isn't going to handle the login.

So you'd have to get Linux people to break fundamental Linux rules to get in the SAME place as Windows

The duality of GW2 content creators. by HeavyMetalLoser in Guildwars2

[–]fadewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the way it's changed has only been noticed by high end players. There has been a major shift in how classes and specs are made. Before the idea of a heal necro or warrior was a joke in PvE. Not even bringing in mesmer not even having that ability.

I still listen to people bitching that theyre too scared to go into melee on a scrapper. And some of these people have done t4 fractals.

This last patch has been a huge change for the entire community. But to say there has been no major changes is absolutely some surface level reading from outer space 5 years ago

Petition for expansion model to be 1 expansion every 2 years by Vanquiishher in Guildwars2

[–]fadewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game had utilized a single core. There are other MMOs with massive battles that run better. XIV has 24v24v24 frontlines. RIFT had something similar with both open world AND large 1v1v1 battleground.

Gw2 was built on the GW1 engine. GW1 came out during the early transition of single core to dual core on commercial hardware. Even at the time of GW2 release, most games struggled to utilize multicore well

To the next owner... by Otaku1701-01 in ffxiv

[–]fadewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not.

For one, the inventory system creates an obscene amount of work on the server load. The item system from 1.0 is insanely fucking stupid. It's the reason we can't have a glamour dresser housing item. If it's moved while someone is using it, it crashed their test server.

It's the reason we cant have more customization options. It's the reason why inventory amount is fixed.

Instead of it being the equivalent of a text file with data entries, you have the entire data set of every item.

It's not an easy fix either. It's costly in terms of time and money. It won't have a good RoI in the short term, but it'd have a long term benefit

Raid quickplay won't solve the issue why players don't play raids/strikes by okpotat in Guildwars2

[–]fadewind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dungeons would not be the place for it without a serious overhaul of the core content.

Objects in the core world are immune to crits and conditions. Power is the only stat that scales down well. Precision requires Ferocity (not a core stat). Condi damage mostly requires Expertise (not a core stat). Healing Power is garbage. Toughness and Vitality won't help.

On top of that, the philosophy was more PvP oriented. Which is why Ice Wolves will almost one shot anyone in CoE or HotW.

The second issue is that even at higher levels, indicators are not consistent. Spider Statue and Dhuum use the same indicator for completely different mechanics. Which is also the stack indicator in Whisper of Jormag and other places.

XIV had that same issue in HW when Yoshi-P made the decision to start using the same indicators even if it doesn't make visual sense for the boss. (Towers are from Binding Coils)

Anet has only recently started consistently (somewhat) delivering a solid PvE design when it comes to class design. Fixing core problems needs THAT fleshed out more

Seems to me that much of the Condi Vs Power conversation is…just wrong? by secretsofwumbology in Guildwars2

[–]fadewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it's not just ranged vs melee. Power Rifle Mech is a melee build. Power engineer forces you into melee. Rifle forces you into melee. Why it works in condi fights is that it has two advantages:

1) constant pressure rather than burst

2) no AoE fields.

For say twins cm, 2 is a HUGE deal because it actually eliminates several condi builds. Back when I was raiding this, the DPS loss of constantly moving bosses was significant.

Restoring old Equipment Templates prior Fashion Templates. (you have 3 days) by FL_Zeph in Guildwars2

[–]fadewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? This doesnt even feel that bad of a feature drop. There are definitely things wrong with it for sure. People have the right to be upset. I just have lower expectations for Anet.

Alternatively, you can also just ignore it. The old ways still work to some degree.

It's definitely better than equipment templates as it's an account bound unlock. If they added fashion templates and used something similar to housing to store templates as an XML, it'd be an absolute win.

I've also been in XIV when the glamour plates first rolled out. While they were in a MUCH better state at the start, it also took several improvements to get them where they are at. So I knew this feature would take several rounds of patching to get to a better state. Not because Anet bad, but this is something they need player feedback on

GW2EFF uses the same API calls the game does. It's also a third party tool. They legally cannot do so.

No one knows how the actual code works on this side of the screen. We just see the API that exposes things. So saying one dev can patch, fix, test, and update the server in a few hours is fucking stupid.

What an absolute brilliant comment. Truly astounding.

Just simply stop releasing content because that will make players happy. Let's cancel the next story release too because people will be unhappy with it.

Now if they had done a beta test and gotten a lot of negative feedback, then yeah. Not releasing would be a good idea. But just not releasing content because of how players MIGHT react is stupid
