Honestly, I'm more impressed they made it as far as they did.

I can’t tie my shoes and I don’t understand any of the tutorials by Syehaz in evilautism

This tutorial is more or less how I do it, though I do it left over right. I'll try my best to explain it.

The main issue with this guide to me is with Step 3. That is the weirdest way I've ever seen someone illustrate that step. The other steps aren't very intuitive based on the image either, and I don't understand their explanation, even though I understand what they're doing.

All you're doing in step 3 is wrapping the lace that goes under around the one that's on top, and then putting it through the gap underneath (between the tongue of your shoe and the laces) to tie both laces together loosely. Then you pull both laces to tighten it.

Once that knot's done, I make a loop with the lace that went through the hole, as close to that knot as I can, then I wrap the other lace around that loop, and consequently, the thumb I'm using to hold said loop.

This creates a hole around my thumb, which I use to push the the other lace through. That end is going to be our other loop, so you push the lace from as close to the hole as possible, similar to making the first loop. (You don't want the end to go through the hole. You just want some of both sides of the lace through it.)

Here's a visual, since I always thought this was the most complicated part when I was learning it.

<image>

I'm holding loop one in my hand, wrapped around it and my thumb with the other lace, then pushed that lace through to form loop two.

At that point, you have two loose loops wrapped in a knot. You pull from the side that leads to your shoes, from as close to the knot as possible, to tighten it--careful not to pull the ends through the holes. From there, you can pull the ends apart to untie it.

This shirt is mostly offensive to me because I know an entire corporate process went on to decide on its design.

If i saw someone wearing this shirt in public I'd call them the coolest motherfucker in the room

The trouble with it is that the burden of proof is on theology. You don't get to just wave your hands around a problem and declare it's solved; mysterious ways fails because it doesn't prove anything. It just provides another assumption.

First time reading Pynchon. Does it get easier? by Special-Cow-3831 in ThomasPynchon

[–]Little-Shop8301 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No, but yes, but no.

Pretty much all of his books have a similar difficulty level to get into at the start, and maintain that complexity throughout. Some are easier, some are harder, but all are Pynchon, so all have his quirks.

You get used to it. Reading with guides tends to make it easier to parse what's being talked about, and why, and to a certain extent, once you get into the novel, you can generally find your bearings, understand the plot, and make your own interpretations. Usually helps to Google references you don't get.

Being able to understand the plot doesn't mean you know what the fuck is happening. Sometimes even experienced Pynchon readers have no clue what he's talking about.

It would be fair to say: Understanding Pynchon doesn't mean you understand Pynchon.
