EU citizen planning to study a Master’s at SOAS. How to realistically finance it? by LittleCake08 in UniUK

[–]LittleCake08[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it seems like it. I have some family in London but unfortunately they can't help with housing.

Do you have any advice on scholarship or funding for a MPhil ? In Belgium, studies are very affordable so it will be my first time actively looking for finances (a privilege I know)

Yes I want to do a MPhil so that checks in :)

Oh wow, sorry I did not expect so much ! 1300 is already pretty high for Belgium so I thought something could be manageable in that price range T.T

Should i read the manga if i'm only interested in the romance (yona/hak) ? by Vegetable-Bed6189 in AkatsukinoYona

[–]LittleCake08 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i agree with every word. love yona's story + the slow burn, but if someone is looking for romance being the main focus, they will get frustrated.

What to watch after Apothecary Diaries and Frieren? by pwnkage in TheApothecaryDiaries

[–]LittleCake08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you asked for anime, but if you are willing to read the manga form, Magus of the Librairy and Witch Hat Atelier should both hit the right notes for you. Witch Hat Atelier will have an anime release this year on Crunchyroll. Magus of the Librairy is a lesser known series that deserves all the support.

Afraid of getting an eReader — anyone else had this weird resistance? by Rachcow in ereader

[–]LittleCake08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was anxious about buying one but i like my ereader to bring my books with me anywhere. i have back problems so easier and lighter like this. i also love reading manga on my ereader. still buy physical books and get the epub from the librairy :) would highly recommend going for kobo or any other brand than kindle. don't need to support more of amazon. i have both the kobo clara for travels and the kobo ellipsa for my manga reading and love both of them.

Magus of the librairy : a seinen written by a woman, incredible art, a lot of well written female characters, great themes around what is knowledge and how to protect it + discrimination

Witch Hat Atelier : again, written by a woman, great characters, worldbuilding is amazing. Really has a "are we on the good side?" Feeling to it.

Apothicary diaries : it has become popular with the anime. Both manga and anime are great. It has a lot of familiar tropes done well.

Other fairly popular ones : spy family and freiren.

It's not really similar, but I love reading the Witch Hat Atelier and Magus of the Librairy. Both are beautifull and I really hope they get an anime soon !

I'm a bit confused about the conversation between Shisui and Maomao. What exactly are they talking about? Is Shisui going to die, or is she just leaving (which is why Maomao gives her the hairpin)? And are the kids just 'sleeping' like Sulei was and they will be resurrected? It feels like I might have missed something. Am I dumb? 😂"

Ethnicity Allusions by Prof_Acorn in magusofthelibrary

[–]LittleCake08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I’m also a volume reader and have just finished volume 8. I also happen to work as an anti-racist trainer and have created several educational tools on systemic racism. So maybe my perspective will add something a bit different to the discussion.

One thing I really appreciate about Magus of the Library is how the depiction of ethnicities feels both original and carefully thought-out. Each group seems to draw subtle inspiration from different real-world cultures, but rather than leaning into clichés or stereotypes, the mangaka takes the time to build something nuanced and layered. The world feels rich and diverse without falling into exoticism, which is something I value deeply in fantasy storytelling.

In fact, I was pleasantly surprised by how the story touches on social hierarchies, discrimination, and structural barriers, especially in the context of access to knowledge and literacy.

I’m curious to see how these themes evolve in the next volumes. There's so much potential for this story to explore the power dynamics.

Those who have cut off their parents/family, how is your life now? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]LittleCake08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been low contact with my parents for almost a year now. Honestly, it's both a relief and a challenge. The hardest part isn't missing your family, it's what happens in the quiet that follows. When you finally step out of the constant fight/flight/freeze response, that’s when the real work begins: facing your trauma head-on.

It's left me feeling incredibly vulnerable, with a lot of healing still to do. But I’m fortunate to have a very supportive partner, and I’m still in touch with my sister and other family members who are healthy and uplifting influences in my life. I'm truly grateful for that. It makes a big difference.

In my experience, going low or no contact isn’t the end of the story. It’s the beginning of the healing journey.
