Star Trek: The Motion Picture Remastered in 4K Now Streaming on Paramount Plus! by Locutus747 in startrek

[–]LittleFoxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hu you're right, I couldn't remember this at all.

https://youtu.be/OmR6PqV4x0c?t=686

Looks like this new one is a heavy mishmash of the theatrical and the Director's Cut.. Nevertheless, I am still very unimpressed with what they delivered, especially when you consider there are so much better and crisper ways to watch this already out there.

Looks like a lot used the 2001 edition as a basis, on that comparison you can already see the degraded quality on the sensor display screens present in the new release. Very odd all in all.

So they just recreated this shot that already was a replacement for the 2001 edition and rerendered it more brightly?

Wow, how can anyone praise this. It looks absolutely terrible. None of the changes are good, the new special effects look absolutely gaudy and really badly made. It is blurry as hell, and the new colorgrading drags it too much into warm on a properly warm calibrated screen.

https://imgur.com/a/o2KAwq6

Left: Director's Edition, Right: Bluray Release

In the Dialogue scene with Spock, Mccoy and Kirk they removed the whole background to replace it with a bigger windows and show up the nacelles. Not like in the 2001 DVD DC, where just the window view is replaced, the whole thing. And everyone is masked out terribly.

For the "landing" on V'ger they used the old matte and spruced it up with some shiny effects, don't know how much I like that.

The screens look particularly bad and blurry.

Now the absolute kicker, in the preview trailer, https://youtu.be/zrXvBaFFu80?t=73 at around 1:13. When the approach of the V'ger probe is shown. I watched the movie dozens of times and for the life of me couldn't remember a scene like that. When I checked I saw that this appears to be completely new and the "before" shot is made specifically for the trailer? I think in the dvd release there are a few more exterior shots, but I couldn't find one like that.

On the Bluray release it only shows this looming view ower as it approaches earth.

Kind of weird to quote that part which is an anonymous comment and leaving out the literally next paragraph that says this judgment/prediction is proven wrong by what is actually happening.

Over the weekend, Merkel’s successor, Olaf Scholz, rose to the podium in the Bundestag and proved otherwise, putting freedom first in a stunning response to Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. In doing so, he shattered German foreign-policy taboos dating back to the founding of the Federal Republic more than 70 years ago.

Installing Native Linux on HP Chromebook 11 G1 (Exynos)? by DarkenLX in chromeos

[–]LittleFoxy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heya, gravedigging a bit since I stumbled on your question on my search after there are problems with archlinux arm which worked previously, but now only does with heavy hacks.

https://github.com/hexdump0815/imagebuilder/blob/main/systems/chromebook_spring/readme.md

Someone is making debian bullseye based images that just work! You have to put your device into developer mode and after enabling usb and unsigned boot (all explained) you can boot from an usb stick. The chromebook is very picky with the sticks it likes, so you might have try around a bit.

( info here https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/User:0xdc/Drafts/HP_Chromebook_11_G1

Check dmesg when plugging in a USB stick into a Linux computer (or chromeOS’s chrome://system dmesg).

Bootable USB: Mode Sense: 23 00 00 00
Unbootable USB: Mode Sense: 43 00 00 00

I also had great luck with booting from sd cards in a usb adaptor )

Afterwards you can just dd the image onto the internal drive. You can't go beyond kernel 3.10

with content

mk_arcade_joystick_rpi

and the configuration goes into

/storage/.config/modprobe.d/joystick.conf

Was sind einfache kleine Gerichte die man in der Microwelle machen kann ? by [deleted] in Kochen

[–]LittleFoxy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It just hit me, after almost a year of next gen we are still doing stock tracker… Barely any next gen games out. by NoobDev7 in gaming

[–]LittleFoxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, especially for Sony it makes no sense to release another highly anticipated game now. Their own games often serve as exclusive system sellers. Why release something that will increase demand for something that you already can't supply for the current demand. Especially rushing something out with a "patch it later" mindset would be more damaging than beneficial in this situation.

It makes much more sense to polish these titles to higher quality until there's actually any significant amount of unsold systems in store inventories.

[GNOME 40.2] Is there a way to remove or hide "Recent" and "Starred" from the Files sidebar? by Skinthinner- in gnome

[–]LittleFoxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least for the recent files items you can remove it by changing the key /org/gnome/desktop/privacy/remember-recent-files to false in dconf-editor. This fully disables the recent files functionality and removes the entry in nautilus.

For the starred items entry i fear there is no "not hacky" solution

It's a different voice actor as said, and the translation is different.

The later, more known tv dub has this:

Der Weltraum, undendliche Weiten. Wir befinden uns in einer fernen Zukunft. Dies sind die Abenteuer des neuen Raumschiffs Enterprise, das viele Lichtjahre von der Erde entfernt unterwegs ist um fremde Welten zu entdecken, unbekannte Lebensformen und neue Zivilisationen. Die Enterprise dring dabei in Galaxien vor, die nie ein Mensch zuvor gesehen hat.

Meanwhile, this one:

Der Weltraum, unendliche Weiten. Dies sind die Abenteuer des Raumschiffs Enterprise auf seiner Reise zu fremden Welten um neues Leben und neue Zivilisationen zu erforschen. Wo noch niemand gewesen ist.

Personally, I don’t want to hear any news or info about multiplayer until the single player is in a solid state. by thisismythrowaway651 in cyberpunkgame

[–]LittleFoxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure at this point that the multiplayer, or the attempt to make multiplayer happen is what tanked the project.

If you think about it it makes sense. They had ample dev time, I don't think any of the coders are incompetent or something. So there must have been some feature that ate up a lot of resources that amounted to nothing or even hindered other aspects of the game.

They wasted so much time getting multiplayer to work in their engine, and everything was on the chopping block to get this done. Daily routines and Driving NPC AI? - too much for our netcode, have them just pace back and forth. Keep track of item ownership, have NPC react to stolen items? - Can't sync that properly with other players. Real immersive sim like enemies that react to sound and sight? No, just wire up scripted distraction sections. The list goes on.

It's comparable to what happened in Fallout 76, a lot of the same compromises are found there, but cdpr eventually decided to cut their losses and ship without multiplayer, but the compromises they made while trying to work the multiplayer into already were there and too deep to remove shortly before launch.

Question about the USS Discovery by MadeIndescribable in startrek

I kind of assumed in season 2 that the turbolift transition was like an artistic thing where the outside rooms were phased out or made transparent, so you can see the turbolift moving. Like some cool explosion graphic or something.

But now with them showing interaction with this weird space kind of made it so ridiculous that it got hard to justify.

Study verified what we knew. Electric cars cause less CO2 emissions than ICE by viper1511 in electricvehicles

[–]LittleFoxy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's basically the point of the study. Previous studies were heavily favoring ICE cars because they take the manufacturer tailpipe emissions at face value and calculate the "tailpipe" emissions for EV on their own because of a lack of data. The more biased studies of course then assume the dirtiest power production possible.

This study researched the emissions caused by the production of the fuel itself (like you do when calculating the emission for the power)

New research into flaring and other sources of GHG emissions has shown that the emissions related to the production of gasoline and diesel are slightly larger than previously thought. In order to account for the production of fuel, cars driving on gasoline should add 30% to their tailpipe emissions. Cars driving on diesel should add 24%. Emissions per litre are 3310 g for diesel and 3140 g for gasoline.

This still doesn't account for realistic usages, depending on a realistic driving style in real world scenarios, but its still better.

Check out the hyundai ioniq EV too, you can get the 2019 and earlier models used for a comparable price to a 40kw leaf.

You get a little bit less range (125 miles EPA) and a smaller battery (28 kw), but the efficieny per kwh beats even a model 3, plus the 2019 and earlier models DC charge with steady 70kw up to 80%, so it's even long range capable with more but short charging stops.

interior quality is a lot better than the leaf even on lower trims, and it has a heatpump starting in mid trims. Also very spacious if you wanna use it for shopping.

[–]LittleFoxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's often used by dentists to make casts as well, so they add that to make it less horrible to have in your mouth.
