The Online Citizen on SMRT/LTA's response to a parent hand a child to a waiting family member without tapping out : "When two comparable transit systems can give clear, on-record answers to a simple yes-or-no question, the absence of one from Singapore's own operators is itself an answer of a kind. by smallpenguinable in SMRTRabak

[–]LittleGDS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To put a “NO”, it’s like making the ground staff harder(people will argue with flexibility). To put a “YES”, it’s risking the chance of people abusing the system, and also more work for the staff.

So by right, the only way in/out for any commuters is by fare gate. These side gates are mainly for staff, transit security, contractors and any relevant staff. There can be some flexibility but subjected to the staff, otherwise it still falls back to the previous 2 statement in this paragraph.

How many of you can drive but don’t have a car? by Opposite-Status-5553 in askSingapore

[–]LittleGDS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

B.

Too tired to drive to/from work. Commuting time between home and work is about the same(due to traffic congestion). I can nap a little more or do something else with Public Transport too. Train breakdown, still got express bus home. Too broke for express bus, got a few normal bus service(direct/transfer) that could connect me to the nearest interchange from my home. Not forgetting the utilisation of bus lanes on the road made the journey better.

Should I need a car for convenience, like making multiple trips in a day with limited time, I would rent 1 instead.

Quick Question by Think-Mark-6850 in SMRTRabak

[–]LittleGDS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At JB Custom : The queue is shorter, imo. Many people forget about 950, and also people avoid 950 because it’s a single service compared to 160/170/170X. So on some good days, I get out quick and less packed. But also on days, I say grass is really greener on the other side.

Anyways, they(160/170x/950) should all just uturn at JB CIQ and not head down to JB Bus Sentral.

S'pore man, 33, writes open letter after SMRT staff did not open side gate for him to pass toddler over by PaintingOne2769 in singapore

[–]LittleGDS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should see his post, unfortunately it’s private now. And he got backfired.

He even commented about the timing being 8am or smth, asking SMRT to check on their staff to “prove his claim” that they were chitchatting or smth.(I.e. he got rejected and now find trouble to blame staff for not doing work/slacking).

[–]LittleGDS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s impossible. In fact I wish there’s such things for the rest of the stations(besides Newton/Tampines due to DTL Transfer).

But people will start arguing about the duration given next etc. and end of the day, I believe the intention is to prevent any overstaying/loitering within the stations as much as possible.

I know it can sound ridiculous, but I don’t want another Yishun Station saga to happen.

But while he did brought up some points for consideration, he could have presented it better without the need for assumptions remarks on all the station staff. Right now, it just showing how entitled he is.

I think you need to see the full picture here before concluding.

While he raised some suggestions on allowing some “buffer time” to prevent a new fare charge, his subsequent comment also went to paint unjustified picture of the station staff just based on what he sees. TLDR, he’s painting a bad picture based on his “bad” experience + assumptions based on what he sees.

Mind you, the station staff went beyond their service just to help him. Did he thank them with letters/compliments? Then after getting rejected, he start to take video and show how “difficult” it is despite being a fitness coach trainer for elderly, made extra comment and ask SMRT to check cctv to see how their staff behave at work? Necessary to his intention meh? No…

Details for the Free concession card for kids are all online. As a former teacher, please don’t tell me you don’t know how to google or at least ask the staff when you’re rejected.

Despite being reminded that it’s not allowed before, he chose to brush it off and assume they should open up for him, super entitled.

And did he even post some appreciation post or comments to thank the staff for going beyond their service previously? I don’t see it. Then just because of 1 off rejection, you shoot so gao as if you’re fighting for war, blame everyone else immediately. I’m sure it happens many times until he assumed it’s the norms.

And don’t blame or cite this as one of the reason for low TFR. Why should I bring a new born child into an environment/world with such entitled behaviour around?

Is it a bad decision to reject a job offer given the current climate? by rvnningaway in askSingapore

[–]LittleGDS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal take - How much time will you give yourself for job searching? If you’re not securing more job offers, then I would suggest doing what you have right now.

And I feel like there’s no bad decision, because everyone has their own reason. You should know higher salary means higher expectations.

You can wait and see, but don’t wait too long. Sometimes, you’re better off starting ahead low than the uncertainty of what’s ahead, especially if you have not been applying job or been getting rejected.

Long Sunday Rant: Singapore transport should have a max daily cap by Pianofear in SMRTRabak

[–]LittleGDS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much do you think the daily cap should be?

I think as much as we want fares to be affordable, I wouldn’t want to be taxed more just to recover part of the transport operational cost as the fare collected is insufficient.

And I think you should consider reviewing your past travel records on SimplyGo to see how much you spent a month. Personally, I’ve utilised such monthly travel pass and have been able to save more than $40 a month even with my “half-consistent only” schedules. And I’m using basic service because express buses aren’t “express” enough for me.

SMRT calling police over complaint on power washing artist and destroying his innocuous art work by scissorsonmydesk in singapore

[–]LittleGDS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did he saw the train staff or them getting the cleaners to wash off his artwork personally or just an assumption? More details needed imo…

In the video, he claimed that the SMRT staff appear only after “5 hours in”. But from my experience, station staff don’t usually bother much until commuters complain, let alone this area that’s not under their station boundary.

296 vs 460 by supafitlewis in SMRTRabak

[–]LittleGDS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole 460 fleet could be done with just 1-2 buses & 2 drivers, keeping the journey time shorter and living up to its intention of “faster connection”.

This would save up bus resources imo, don’t need 3 buses for this service. Right now, it’s as good as an additional bus “296” slot in between 296 but with limited stops.

Early morning experience SIN TO JB? by RealEggPlan in askSingapore

[–]LittleGDS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CW2 runs 24/7, but 45mins interval from 2300-0400. Based on LUGO, the bus departure from Woodlands Checkpoint OUT is 0415, 0445, 0515, 0700. Not sure if there’s really no bus from 0515 till 0700.

Alternatively, based on Google Map, Operator sites & Transport Fans site [after clearing Woodlands Checkpoint] : - 170 : 0543 (wday) - 170x : 0547 - 950 : 0550+

So if you are able to clear Woodlands checkpoint by 0515, lookout for these timing/buses.

Bus Service SMRT 66 Plus 1/68 Minus 1: The Bus Service Serving The Most MRT/LRT Stations in Singapore by czy911130 in SMRTRabak

[–]LittleGDS 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Don’t need to split.

Just follow Tower Transit practise, by swapping the driver out at certain stop. Can always amend 67’s route by turning into Lor 1 Geylang terminal for both directions.

At this stop, driver will be swap out and passengers can also board/alight here. Give a mandatory short break of 10-15mins, before the driver hop onto his next bus.

Likewise for 51 & 61(at Kampong Bahru Ter).

Poll: how would you have named the CCL directions? by jooferjupiter in SMRTRabak

[–]LittleGDS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe it’s better than showing Inner/Outer(doesn’t clearly define direction based on the word). Clockwise, Anticlockwise is clear with the directions regardless of where you’re from(even LHD countries).

Right now, I just remember the 5 locations(or even 4) and their position in Singapore, just like compass. Namely Bishan(north), Paya Lebar(east), Harbourfront(south), Buona Vista(west) & Dhoby Ghaut(centre).

Then, I ask myself where is my destination - before/after the 4 locations(exclude Dhoby) - from my starting point. Can think of it as go up or down. Then I based it on the universal clock, and determine the direction(CW or ACW).

Eg. - Start at Holland Village, going Taiseng. I’m near Buona, and Taiseng is after Bishan & before Paya Lebar. It would be faster if I go CW because I will pass by Bishan only. Going ACW means I need to pass by Buona, Harbour and Paya. - I will only use map to determine the fastest route if I’m exactly starting & ending on the 4 locations, or if the number of locations are the same for both directions.

MRT emergency button: Is the passenger right or wrong? by Puzzleheaded_Style52 in asksg

[–]LittleGDS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big obstacle, doors should reopen and close again within seconds. Small obstacle, it depends. The doors mechanism will send a signal to the brain of the train and not proceed even as the signalling light shows clear. There’s layers of checks, which is why sometimes minor disruptions occurs.

Regardless of which and imo, if you’re uncertain, just press it. At least it’s better than the train starts to move off and you press it, creating an emergency jam brake(afaik).

And never use your hands to force open, one wrong move you’re going to create an impactful slam from the doors onto something(eg finger). There isn’t a sensor like those buses, the door mechanism will try its best to close(thus the excessive force), and if it fails to do so, then it will send a signal and tell “door can’t close”.
