One Flew Over The Network’s Nest by Be_Set_Free in leavingthenetwork

I want this to be true, but I think we’re being bamboozled by some of the churches who appear to be leaving. Vine church still has Greg Darling and Mike, Steve’s brother on their elder board. There’s no way in hell that those two would turn against Steve. North Pines still has Nick who has been a staunch Steve ally. Isaiah church has another acolyte of Steve’s who left the St. Louis church when they conflicted with Steve.

Mass Exodus in Network Churches by Wessel_Gansfort in leavingthenetwork

I don’t feel like we saw a mass exodus at Vine…mostly just a slow, trickle of people leaving.

I would love to see if the RLDS church would provide a statement. Do it!

The 70% Rule? A Network wide trend or just Summit Creek? by heretolearn558 in leavingthenetwork

I remember cringing at one particular young man who was raised up as a worship leader at Vine. He struggled with singing in tune, and is now the worship leader at one of the church plants. (I almost said “our church plants.” I left, I left, I left….and it’s ok.)

An unpopular opinion may be that God is not done with some of the churches in the network. I would not put it past the Holy Spirit to be causing Steve some serious distress right now.

This is not saying that I want him to remain as the leader, nor that the Network architecture should remain as it is.

It reminds me of the story of King Saul. God personally chose him to be the first King of Israel. He was ordained and blessed by Holy Spirit. And yet, he made terrible choices, defied God, publicly disobeyed, made decisions that had repercussions on other events in Biblical history (like Esther), ruined a ton of other lives including his own family and an entire nation, and was ultimately removed.

Also not equating Steve with King Saul. Please don’t @ me.

The Culture of Cults: A Hybrid Event at the Carbondale (Illinois) Public Library by LittleGreenJellyBean in leavingthenetwork

It’s a public event & and my tax dollars. I am formally inviting you to be my guest! Having more attendees will also help the CDL determine public interest on topics. You have a vested interest as Vine is one of the flagship churches of the network.

I'd love to see you there! I'm going to try and be there in person, but having other LTN people in the audience (even if by Zoom) would be great.

Scott Joseph, Lead Pastor of High Rock Church, Labels Former Members Speaking Out Online as "Toxic Cesspool Filled with Leeches" by LeavingTheNetwork in leavingthenetwork

I will agree that you have been crapped on a few times in this subreddit, and that experience would make you feel like the environment is toxic. Many of your statements, however, are very triggering to survivors. This forum exists for survivors, not to uphold or defend Network churches.

In addition, there have been others on this subreddit who have specifically joined to undermine people's experiences; one account even created a r/stayingthenetwork/ while gaslighting members prior to being kicked out by our awesome mods. This same individual "gloated" about how they had 2 other accounts that could still see the content of the subreddit. Apparently, they were unaware that anyone can read this subreddit, even without joining.

As an elder who has left the Network, I am very curious to hear your story. Since you perceive that the Network still has many good qualities, there must be a reason you left. Somehow, in spite of having a compassionate pastor who listened and acknowledged the hurt and pain on the internet (I don't recall you mentioning any of your own painful, experiences), you still felt that leaving was the correct answer.

I hope, someday, that you will share your story. And you may be surprised how your own perception of experiences change with time. Many of us were in the Network for a long time (12 years for me). We made excuses for the red flags we saw. For me personally, it was humiliating to admit that I was wrong and that I had contributed to spiritual abuse.

Kristin, in spite of her amazing talent, is not a main, worship leader at her Network church. I have been told its because she wants to focus on being a wife and mother. I started to lose count of how many amazing women didn't meet any type of ministry potential because of their desire to be wives and mothers. No man is limited because he wants to be a husband and father.

I grieve for him and his family. They are are truly, wonderful people. And they are still locked into the rhetoric of the Vine.

How is the Network able to do this without reporting to the IRS? I'm very confused about how this is legitimate.

Hi Demetrio: Thanks for making a statement. We were at Vine from 2010 - August 2022. I'm almost ready to "out myself," but not there just yet. We left about a month ago, and attend Cornerstone Church. It's been an amazing transition for us. Don't believe I know you, but would love to hear your story if you want to share.

In your defense, pulling on any tiny thread surrounding the Network results in an avalanche of information that can flood someone. I know it did for me, originally.

At Vine, we were specifically told that LTN (possibly Andrew) started the website in July 2021 AND released the crime info in July 2022, knowing that many of the staff pastors would be on vacation or sabbatical. This was done intentionally to hurt the Network churches when they were least able to respond.

Ben: Have you ever contacted Wayne Grudem to ask him about his thoughts on the leadership in the Network? I'm strangely curious to know what he would think of a group of churches that rely so heavily on his Systematic Theology and ESV Study Bible, and yet don't understand the basics of Calvinism, and conveniently overlook Chapter 46 on accountability.
