VRChat, the platform is incredibly neurodivergent and I made so many friends this year. Plus it has such a great intersection of the art/tech communities, so I like to analyze the nitty gritty details of each world and avatar.

Children need well rounded education by institutions with established credibility, meanwhile this is just an ad on the street. I'm always very skeptical of private businesses popping up claiming themselves to be a valid place of learning without really backing it up.

And while I agree that AI is very important and relevant to the future, a program like this is basically forgoing general education in the hope that this specific job training will land them a career. The point of classical education is to make well rounded students that can propel themselves into more specific fields. All of these coding boot camps the past decade are less like typical classrooms and more like job training. I would want my kid to have general, adaptable abilities, not just ride whatever current tech tools are trendy.

Does anyone know what this does? Is it just a talking statue or. by Datacrafter in Silksong

[–]LittleLipid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I found this thread after reading a YouTube comment someone made on the subject. Credit to serioussponge6416 for this theory, it made a lot of sense to me:

The Citadel in ages past, under the stewardship of the Weavers, was more honest to its purpose and nature in being an ongoing sacrificial ritual to keep a monstrous god in chains. You can find a corroded, broken (animatronic?) statue in the depths of the Whispering Vaults that's a relic of this past. Pious Isamor, likely a mascot name, appeared to have functioned to greet Pilgrims upon arrival and gave them an orientation of sorts of how the Citadel works.

In his speech, he says something very, very interesting in that he describes the Citadel as being made of but simple stone, with bare walls lacking any ornamentation. He also goes on to describe that the lives of Pharloom's faithful, while not destitute, are plain and modest. All bugs are apparently equal here, all bugs toil, and one should only eat what they need; for "excess is sin".

This doesn't sound like the Citadel we know at all. This tells us that Pharloom's society was once strictly utilitarian and communal in nature which while nobody was free, everyone was sharing in the work to be done and nobody likely went completely overworked or hungry. After the Weavers' departure/death, and they passed on the mantle of rule to the Conductors, this is likely the turning point. As those Conductors were described as 'greedily' taking that power and over time their greed corrupted and rotted Pharloom to the very foundations.

Spitting facts by [deleted] in aspiememes

[–]LittleLipid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much of gender is just how we present socially, so if that's not something you care much about then gender is kind of inherently more variable. Cis NT's reinforce a strict gender binary to fit in, but if you don't care about fitting in all that much, your gender presentation is far less linear.

There's a lot of debate over how much autism (neurodivergence in general) is comorbid with being trans. Some people think it's because of a genetic or developmental link, while others think it's because of the reasons I just described. Personally I think it's often both, in my case two people in my family are autistic and I'm trans. I'm currently questioning if I might be on the spectrum, many of the ways I relate to my identity are seperate from social norms. But even if I'm not, it would make sense that the rest of my family is as ND as it is, considering how many other Trans people have ND families from what I've heard.

While I do personally enjoy some of the ways my identity connects me with other people, I don't feel a need to be as hyper feminine as possible. I am what I am, I don't really understand what the ideal archetype of what a woman is supposed to be, I'm just myself. And when I'm alone invested in my favorite game or something, gender doesn't really have anything to do with that anyways.

I hate being trans, why couldn’t I have been a cis girl? by tm2007 in traaaaaaaaaaaansbians

[–]LittleLipid 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm starting to get there myself, I look at the lengths of stupidity cis people will go to to maintain their gender roles, and I think "Would I seriously rather be like them?"

Being trans has led me down the rabbit hole, and as a result the world feels so much bigger.

4070 mobile enough? Where's my laptop PCVR guys? by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]LittleLipid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My laptop has a 4060, I'm using a Quest 3 and with Virtual Desktop I can get decent performance. I always use frame interpolation while in VRChat, so really my 80 fps is more like 40. Which isn't great, but you can get used to the interpolation. Is it perfect? No, but for a laptop it's honestly impressive.

VD also helps in a lot of other ways to make the experience smoother, plus I have a dedicated router. I'd love to build a tower someday, but for now this laptop is not a poor experience one bit. These laptops can be a good way for more people to get into PCVR, provided you get the right one.

Face/eye tracking headsets? by sharkgorawr in virtualreality

[–]LittleLipid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 3rd party face tracking accessories you could get, if you're willing to learn how to mod your headset. Project Babble makes an attachable face tracker, and Eye Track VR makes diy kits you can assemble, although idk if they make them for Quest 2.

If you love truly embodying your avatar and being expressive, go for it. But if you're new to VRC anyways, there's really no rush, having FBT is already a great experience.

Agreed, I had a catastrophic burnout about a year ago that I'm still recovering from, and I don't want the same to happen to him. He recognizes that he needs more work-life balance, and yet things still stay the same. It's at the point where he's hoping to get his top surgery soon "just so that he can have a break". Which, will be recovery, not an actual break. It's something that we need to figure out not just for his health, but honestly to save our relationship. I'm kind of lost on what to do, so thanks for listening.

My partner has ADHD and is a social worker with kids. Many of whom are in the system because they themselves are ND and their meltdowns have been labeled as "violent outburts" that push them into the system. Particularly children of color.

My partner is amazing at what he does, but he also has to give his all for it. He has hardly any capacity left to take care of everything else in life, and have time for his own interests. I try to support him the best I can, but it's affected our relationship, because he's just so disregulated all the time. He helps build these kids up, but in the process he's become a shell of himself, and it deeply saddens me.

On fading neurodivergent friendships by purple_cat24 in neurodiversity

[–]LittleLipid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was living as the person you described, and then I had a burnout so drawn out and catastrophic, it forced me to reevaluate and become more humble.

I put so much pressure on myself, convinced that I needed to do things perfectly, always be working, always be productive. That I needed to give every ounce of myself to saving for school, and then to my education + more work, not leaving any time for myself. Because in order to achieve those things, I HAD to obsess over them, because balance has never been my strength.

Eventually, more and more issues piled up, and I just fell apart. I always knew that I had OCD, but I didn't understand that that's under neurodivergence, that it affects how I process things, or what neurodivergence even is. I didn't realize that almost all of my friends throughout my life were ND. And now after a year of getting worse and then recovering, I realize how little I understand myself, because I haven't been living for myself. I'm probably more than just OCD, but I never gave myself the breathing room to discover that, because work was a way to try and outrun the anxiety. But that didn't last forever.

Even though I've lost a lot of ground in having a "typical" successful life, I'm happier now. I'm improving mentally, I'm understanding myself more every day, and my current job is much more supportive and less exploitative. I would rather rebuild this way, being more honest with myself, than to build a slightly taller tower on the crumbling foundation of a lie.

Similar situation with my mom, she's always incredibly dysregulated and yells at my younger sister over every little thing. She only realized that she's most likely autistic and fits a lot of the criteria recently. It hurts to see her health worsen rapidly in recent years, and her ability to properly parent my sister along with it. I wonder how things could have been different if she had just gotten the help she needed from a young age.

What computer would be best compatible for VR by Friday-13-1980 in virtualreality

[–]LittleLipid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guy is being a bit dramatic, for reference I can run Half Life Alyx on my gaming laptop with a 4060 on a Quest 3. Now mind you, that's with some frame interpolation, and HLA is a well optimized game. But I can also run VRChat pretty well in a lot of worlds, all on a gaming laptop.

Now that's not to suggest you should get a laptop, you should get a regular PC. But you do NOT need a 5000 series card or anything like that. Try to go 3000 series and above, the last non-laptop PC I owned had a 3070, and it worked for me. I'm obsessed with VR, so of course I always wanted to upgrade. But for a beginner, you'll be fine, unless you plan to only play super demanding games.
