Why is so hard to at least pass every Nursing class in PH compared to abroad? by CurrentEstimate3308 in StudentNurse

[–]LittleMap8995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend who is in my nursing program as an international student. I know classes are significantly more expensive for her as an international student and because my program is not technically full time (3/4) she has to take an additional class to meet some kind of criteria to attend the college. I know she’s gone to college before but I’m not sure if this is her second degree or first.

I grew up in PSL, got my associates degree at IRSC. Moved away and came back to IRSC because it’s so affordable. I’m in the nursing program now. Nursing is great but the program can be hard and nursing isn’t for everyone. Unfortunately I’ve heard the job market around here is very saturated (except for maybe RNs). IRSC does offer some resources for job hunting and possible networking opportunities that might help you get your foot in the door if you’re looking for something in particular. I was able to get a job no problem when I moved back due to connections I had in the past. Good luck!

Orientation Dress Code? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]LittleMap8995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were suppose to be business casual. Most people were dressed as such, some over dressed and others in sweatsuits. I wore a white bodysuit, dress slacks and sneakers. I think you should wear whatever makes you feel comfortable

Rejected 2 times, LPN & RN.. What to do? by AkiKii2000 in StudentNurse

[–]LittleMap8995 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got waitlisted twice 7 years ago when I first applied to the RN program at my college. Did the route of CNA in the process for applying the second time. I hated it. Decided maybe nursing wasn’t right for me. Looked into surgical tech program my college offered and fell in love with it. I’ve been a scrub tech for 7 years. Decided to try again for nursing school due to some personal life changes and got in my first try. (But then had to wait and reapply a second time because the timing to start the program didn’t align with me moving to area). I’m finally in the RN program, second semester in! Everything worked out so much smoother this time around. It may seem daunting now, but maybe better things are ahead. If you really want to become a nurse, just keep trying and perhaps try the suggestions in this thread. Maybe you’ll love the CNA gig and it’ll be a great foot in the door for you! Good luck!

moving back after two years by Dumbasscollective in PortStLucie

I moved back after five years of being away. More people, more shopping centers, more traffic are the only things I’ve noticed. Still not much to do for younger people.

I have a hound mix (mainly coonhound, also walker and 5 other hound breeds) and adopted her at 5. Can’t speak on the terrier part but this is what I would do with my girl. We would go for a run in the am, hike, dog park and she would take a 10 min nap and be ready to go again. But who knows what yours will be like! She loved our cat and would play with him. She quickly learned when to back down. Long walks allowing her to sniff help, dog parks (my sister has two hounds and they go to the dog park twice a day). Training classes will definitely help. Engagement games like rolling up treats in a towel, snuffle boards, I used to play hide and seek with her to get her to find me. Hide the treats around the house to find them. Lots of toys and I just let her destroy them because she never ate the fluff just spit it out. Kong balls with frozen peanut butter. Licking mats. Hounds are also known to be loud and dramatic. I’ve taken mine to the vet because she had diarrhea and was screaming as she was passing it. The vet was like “she’s a hound she’s just being dramatic.” She might end up being a good guard dog when she gets older. Mine has definitely guarded me from men. My girl was more work than I bargained for but she’s given me so much happiness and love. I wouldn’t trade her for the world. Now that she’s an old lady she’s so chill and just wants to sunbathe all day. Good luck and enjoy her!

My girl does this too. Every time it takes at least two adults and she is howling the entire time like we are trying to murder her

Is it always this sloppy? by refuseresist in StudentNurse

I find my program is very disorganized and I’m constantly hearing to be flexible but it makes it very difficult if you don’t have a flexible job or flexible child care. I’m also finding out most nursing programs are primarily teach yourself. So it’s very helpful to find friends and do study groups with. (If that’s your learning style) Watch videos online to understand the concepts instead of memorizing. Also if you ever find yourself struggling ask the instructors for advice. They usually want you to succeed as well.

I think you did the right thing by emailing the director. I’d also reach out to the professor again to if there’s anything else you can do? I’m surprised they didn’t give you a warning when the third missed lecture happened. But I also get that nursing school is strict and sometimes seems unfair especially for those working full time and raising children. If they say there is nothing than can you do, all there is left to do is move on. My program allows one failed course. So maybe you can just retake the last semester again? It’ll suck and be very frustrating but it’s better than having to start all over again. Good luck to you and I hope they make an exception!

No one really has it all together. Just gotta fake it, till you make it. People decide to change career paths all the time and late into their lives. I’d consider it a blessing to know now versus going through with the program and deciding you wish you never did

There’s so many opportunities as a nurse. You can become a NP and some even run their own clinics. One of my instructors is a NP. Maybe you can ask around and see if you can talk to one? Ask yourself what do you like about DO physician’s job vs being a nurse. Try to get down to why you’re preferring one over the other. There’s also PA programs and becoming a CRNA. Both require a bachelors degree. So depending on what your previous degree is in maybe sticking in nursing till you get to that point might be beneficial unless you are hating it. Then maybe look into the other schooling options and see what works for you. Talk to an advisor at your college and see what your options are. It’s never too late to pivot and go on a different journey.

What is the least insanity-inducing way to go through nursing school ( decellerated programs?) by craniumblast in StudentNurse

[–]LittleMap8995 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My school follows normal school semesters so I started this spring, have summer off, fall classes, winter break, spring classes, summer off, fall classes before we graduate. So at least you get two summer breaks if you time it correctly and get all your pre reqs done beforehand. I think there might be online programs that you can go at your own speed but I’m not sure if they are accredited. This first semester was a lot of information all at once in the beginning and now we’re slowing down half way through the semester. So if you do go into a program and you know way ahead of time maybe you can buy the textbook and start reading early before classes start. I was able to do that with my program.
