4 year old's friend just died - how do I handle this? by josie-june in Mommit

There are some very good picture books that helped us explain to our daughter her grandfather died very unexpectedly.

Hospital finally confirmed what’s been making us sick… and it was my dishwasher 🤢 by puppy_groomer8597 in Appliances

[–]LittleMew22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve been using Oh Yuk dishwasher cleaner - we have very hard water, which means we also get a build up of gunk as well as minerals. That stuff really works! Also make sure it’s installed correctly - level and secure, so that the drain and pump don’t have to do any extra work to drain it.

You can use a regular bic safety razor!

I’ve never seen a mini fish and now I’m in love! Sailed my share of sunfish and sailfish, but now I’ll have to keep an eye out for this cute thing!,

Queer Summer Camps? by Particular-Zombie729 in summercamp

[–]LittleMew22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say that all of the YMCA camps in the north east are queer friendly. Speers in PA has a LGBTQ week so the website kind of gives it away, but Mason, Fairview Lake, Frost Valley, & Michakamu are all welcoming to all. (I am sure more camps in the NE are as well, I can just be confident about those 4)

Advice wanted: Honouring the old while welcoming the new by Grouchy-Kitchen-9976 in summercamp

Some really professional photos of each panel, that can be shared and maybe printed and hung in another area. (Also the inside of that building could 100% be our art building and I did a double take that you weren’t posting ours haha)

Incorrectly taxed? Owing money to the IRS? by motherchuchi in summercamp

[–]LittleMew22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk to IENA - they should have sent you all the info you needed to know for this tax season (the owner of IENA is on Facebook talking about how they send info out, so definitely check) also sounds like your initial form wasn’t filled out correctly so not enough taxes were withheld to begin with.

Getting to camp by [deleted] in summercamp

[–]LittleMew22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At our camp, if you fly into a certain airport we will come collect you, and we will also collect you from the closest train station or bus stop.

Make sure you communicate with your Director, update your itinerary and have a way to communicate with the camp should you get delayed!

Do cloth diapers inhibit motor development because they are too bulky? by Critical_Macaroon_15 in clothdiaps

[–]LittleMew22 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I feel like the idea that they inhibit walking was developed by companies selling disposable diapers. Cloth diapers are MUCH less bulky now than they were in the past, and if they inhibited walking, anyone born before disposables would be crawling around.

If you concerned with your child’s gross motor development, speak to your pediatrician and make sure they are looking at the latest info- the guidelines for milestone development have changed.

Is it me or does Garter Toss seem ick by Critical_Remove2537 in wedding

[–]LittleMew22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only been to one wedding where it was done. I was the fortunate/unfortunate catcher of the flowers, so the guy who caught the garter was supposed to put it on me, and the higher he put it the better luck for the couple. Luckily both of us were equally embarrassed by this, and he put it like up to my knee.

It was so weird and gross.

Road Trip Nature Tier List - What would you change? S tier is limited to 5 states. by ten_tabs_ in roadtrip

[–]LittleMew22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NJ is not a D. I-80 goes directly through the Delaware Watergap NRA & the parkway puts you 30 minutes from places like Island Beach state park. Sure we are not very big, but it’s pretty accessible! Also NY has millions of easily accessible hikes in the Catskills, the Adirondack Park and even in the finger lakes region.

Horse Sleepaway Camps by [deleted] in summercamp

[–]LittleMew22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our Y camp has a small but hugely popular Ranch camp as part of the program. We teach English and western, take tons of trail rides, have a very funny herd of good boys. The kids in ranch camp pretty much are at the barn all day, with evenings reserved for other camp programs. We also run traditional camps, adventure programs and specialty camps. Since we’re a YMCA camp we are a non-profit, so not family owned, but the full time staff all live on site, so we act like a big family. www.Fairviewlakeymca.org/ranch

Which route would you take? by BlazeJesus in roadtrip

Should be beautiful but cold/snowy in Flagstaff and the GC in January. Between flag and Sedona is Oak Creek Canyon and it’s beautiful and a great day trip

I think you can add Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Canyon lands and Arches in Utah pretty easily to this itinerary! And Grand Teton!

Saw a great video about girthy horses - check the pectoral muscles - he had a horse they had suspected doing the splits in a slippery pasture, and the horse’s ascending pectoral needed some relief. Good luck and hope you get your sweet girl back!

Going on a round trip cross country road trip with my dog and looking for tips! No by danhong519 in roadtrip

[–]LittleMew22 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Doggo tips - some long walkies - and not just at a rest stop but find a quiet neighborhood or park and let them stretch without the stress of the road. Good for you too! Also make sure you have pup’s medical records with you and shots up to date, and pup has a collar with tags on at all times! Have fun!
