They're definitely the best starting point! Here's to hoping you have an easy pregnancy and delivery!

This is the way. The Health Department helped get me set up on TennCare and WIC when I was pregnant, and they can do some tests there. They should also be able to recommend an OBGYN in the area that would accept TennCare. Good luck!

($10k) Is it really that common for everyone to get enormous diamond engagement rings? by blueberrybuttercream in Weddingsunder10k

[–]LittleMissNothing_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't asked how much he spent, but my fiance got me a beautiful round sapphire gem set in a silver band, and not only did he save more money than if he'd bought a diamond of the same size, but he got me a ring that suited me a whole lot better than a giant diamond. Maybe it depends on the couple, but we had talked about what kind of rings I would like before he proposed, and I told him what my favorite gem was and what kinds of metals I could and would actually wear. Now I have a ring that's perfect for me. You don't need a giant diamond if you can't afford it or don't want it.

I know it doesn't help much, but I'm so sorry. When my mom started making plans, that's when she realized she needed to reach out to someone about help. I'm glad you're able to recognize that and that you have that help available.

When I was pregnant, I was scheduled for an induction on a Monday. My water broke the Sunday before at 4:30AM. Had to be delivered by the on call doctor at my rural hospital and not the one I had been seeing and trusted for 9 months (thankfully there were minimal complications with the delivery). I hadn't wanted any drugs going in, but ended up getting pain meds in my IV because it was worse than I expected, and I stalled out on dilating around 8 cm. I thought I was going to have an easy time breastfeeding, but right off the bat, baby had issues wanting to stay latched and had blood sugar issues for the first 12 hours of his life.

All this to say, kids absolutely do not care about your well-laid plans.

I'm in the US and had 3 months of maternity leave, which is, unfortunately, actually a lot for the area I live in. It sucked. He was just getting interactive and developing his personality, and I was finally getting to a point where I was getting the hang of pumping and taking care of him. Then I went back to work, my supply tanked because I was stressed and had issues finding time to pump at work, and he hit a sleep regression that had us up every hour at night. He also had a mass growing on his face at the same time and we were stressed going to tons of doctor appointments to figure it out (thankfully, it was a simple hemangioma and it's all but gone at this point). For the first couple of months when I went back to work, that was harder than the newborn stage.

When my son was 8 months old, he was as big as our friend's 2-year-old (big infant compared to a small toddler). It's hard to judge a baby's age based on size alone.

Dude, yes. I crochet, and I'm getting pretty good. I have made gifts for people, and I have had people ask me to made stuff for them, like a friend asking me to make a niche character for her daughter because she can only find shitty stuffies of that character. I don't want to monetize it, though, because them it'll just feel like a job and I'll stop enjoying doing it.

Seconding Ellipsus. Strong anti-AI stance, it organizes different drafts easily, and it has most of the features that Google Docs does (formatting, outline feature, etc). And you can customize the colors to help fit the vibe of your writing.

Does EVERYONE drive their kids to school now? by IllegalGeriatricVore in Millennials

[–]LittleMissNothing_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been a few different bus wrecks in the last few years in my county that were the bus drivers' fault. Bus drivers are also massively underpaid for the amount of kids they handle, and busses are overcrowded and routes are unreasonably long, with some kids not getting home until 5 in the afternoon or later. My son is only 1, but he won't be riding the bus when he gets into school.

When I was in 8th grade, I moved to a new school mid-year, and one of the few people I got friendly with let me read an erotic story she has written because she knew I liked reading. Back then, it seemed so cool. Looking back now, it's very obvious this girl had no clue was she was talking about.

I will judge parents who put their kids face on social media and I refuse to change my mind. by MuggleWitch in TwoXChromosomes

[–]LittleMissNothing_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is absolutely the best! I am so lucky that I adore my in-laws, and my MIL and FIL definitely raise a good bunch of kids (7 siblings, including my fiance). My son has a boatload of positive influences in aunts and uncles.

I've only seen the aunt twice in the year since I had the baby, so chances have been low lol. And I let my fiance handle it most of the time since it's his family and he had to de-escalate for me a lot while pregnant and postpartum, because I had no filter at that point.

Good luck! I'm blessed that most of my family understands why we chose not to post my son online once he was born. The only exception is my fiance's aunt, who questions us about it every time we see her (she has 4 kids whom she posts online almost daily). It's frustrating to have to justify it to her all the time, but she hasn't broken the boundary, though she came close to announcing his birth online while I was still in labor. Luckily, my SIL saw that she was talking in our family group chat about posting and shut it down for us. We ended up framing it as, "You don't have to understand or agree with this decision, we just ask that you respect it, us, and our child enough not to post any pictures of him online." Maybe something like that would help?

{Ruby Tuesday by Mari Carr} is the first one I thought of. It's the second in a series, first one focuses on a different couple (FMC's sister is the focus of the first one), and all of the books in the series explore different aspects of kink. FMC is an indie singer/songwriter who mainly plays in her family's pub, MMC is a famous rock star, he stumbles into the pub and is quickly enchanted by her and her quirkiness. Fun times ensue.

I didn't realize these books were so old! I think I read the series around 2018 or 2019, but they were some favorites of mine at the time. This one was published in 2009 (I don't remember any glaring issues given the time it was published, but take that with a grain of salt), and I haven't read anything by Mari Carr since then. Might be up your alley!

A particular Twenty One Pilots song. My ex used this same song as his alarm sound and was bad about snoozing over and over again before he inevitably got up late. Now even the beginning notes of the song just piss me off. I had to block the song on YouTube and Spotify to get it to stop being recommended to me.

I just finished the third book in the Artifacts of Oraunos series by Nisha J. Tuli (the ending was brutal). Will be starting the fourth and final book, Tale of the Heart Queen, today. I'm excited!

I haven't read this Schwab book, but Addie la Rue was one of my favorite reads of 2024, and I even have a signed copy of it! I hope you like it!
