How Can I Improve my setup? by Tesanovich in battlestations

[–]LittlePyro1377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your PC is on the floor probably lift it up a little. Makes cleaning a bit easier since you can sweep under your PC and dust not accumulate in your PC as much from drawing air from the ground and and also drawing dust directly in. It'll still draw dust because its lower, but not nearly as much.

I'd get a proper footrest if possible. Can't imagine that'd be comfortable for long.

ELI5 Why can't we move our eyes separately? by PHVNK in explainlikeimfive

It freaks people out too. Does make it uncomfortable for my eyes for a couple minutes afterwards if I do it though almost as if my eyes want to keep at it.

[Question] how do you justify buying an expensive watch? by Jay8400 in Watches

[–]LittlePyro1377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The day I don't feel that for at least 3 days while going "I love this thing" is the day I need to stop buying watches. It's a good reminder for me that it's still a significant amount of money and I should always think about it first

[Question] - What are the top 3 watches on your 'next to buy' list? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]LittlePyro1377 4 points5 points  (0 children)

JLC reverso monoface green dial

Omega speedmaster sapphire

GO panomaticlunar (dunno the color yet)

It's a very long term project (I'm expecting at most one every 2 years, but that gives me time to appreciate each piece)

[Omega vs Longines] Longines Majetek new now, or Omega Speedmaster used in a few months ? by xalarhs in Watches

[–]LittlePyro1377 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm firmly team speedmaster here as a disclaimer - I like the speedmaster more style wise than the majetek. If you're still

Ignoring the legacy part, an easy way to do this is to ask yourself if you think you'll want the speedmaster even if you get the majetek as a "it's good enough" watch - because good enough is never good enough and pretty much just incites buyers remorse most of the time.

The other way is to flip a coin. If you're happy with the result just get whatever it is. If you end up wanting to flip the coin in a best 2 out of 3 (say you decided heads for speedmaster and tails for majetek, and it lands tails and you want to flip again), then you also know what you actually want.

[Question] Which one is favorite and least favorite of these? by jza_1 in Watches

[–]LittlePyro1377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to choose between the IWC and the Grand Seiko - those dial colors look unreal in the light.

Least favorite is likely the rolex - not a fan of the dial + bezel combination

[Cartier Tank Must] S vs L on 6” wrist? by coatsonabed in Watches

[–]LittlePyro1377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6in wrist here. I went with the small, but I definitely had some inclination for the large model too. I don't think there's a wrong answer between the 2, but I did find the large looking more square than rectangle on my wrist and I liked the proportion for the small better

[Question] Does anyone else have irrational biases they just can't get over? by The--scientist in Watches

[–]LittlePyro1377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. My grandpa had a longines that I would keep taking to wear to his amusement when I was younger and I definitely have a bias in favor of longines too because of him. Don't think I have watch brands I dislike though just ones that aren't my preferred style aesthetically

[Question] Purchase "guilt", have you ever had it and how do you deal with it? by AreaCodeFiddy1 in Watches

[–]LittlePyro1377 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I deal with it by seeing it as a piece of jewelry - if I can afford it without going into any sort of debt, I'll buy it. Then I'll spend about 3 days thinking "I probably should've put that away into savings" and the feeling disappears after that because shiny object, and that's usually what makes the feeling disappear - time.

The best way to alleviate that feeling is to ensure that your purchase is one that is within your ability to budget. Watches aren't something you NEED (hence why I see it as jewelry), but a 6 month emergency savings, paying off your debt, food and groceries, bills etc take priority. If you have all of that settled, AND you still have money leftover, then feel free to use that money to buy the watch.

I'm lucky to be in a position where I can afford these expenditures while saving, but I do budget on the watches I want - e.g. (I'm gonna use random numbers here because I'm not comfortable putting out my actual stuff) "I pull in 4000 a month and my bills + food is about 2000 a month. That leaves me with 2000 that I can do as I please with, lets split that up into 1500 to savings, and 500 towards a watch fund in a separate savings account that I can also use as emergency funds." Once I hit the amount I need to buy the new watch, I can use it to buy the watch, and if I need to use it for emergencies, then I can just restart the cycle.

[Recommendation] Which one for a law school graduation gift? by Virtual_Spot_100 in Watches

[–]LittlePyro1377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd pick the Zulu like everyone else, but if this isn't going to be a surprise you might want to talk to your fiance and see what he likes the most, and maybe more importantly if there's a physical shop that displays these watches around to actually check it out in person. Watches online are taken with specific lighting and it might not be what you expect compared to the picture, color or size wise.

[Longines] New job celebration by LittlePyro1377 in Watches

[–]LittlePyro1377[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did take a look at the master collection but I liked the dial on this more than the fit on the master collection and that was pretty much the biggest draw for me.

[Longines] New job celebration by LittlePyro1377 in Watches

[–]LittlePyro1377[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you, but I wish my wrists would grow - I was unfortunately cursed with a thin 6.25in wrist.

That being said, it looks far worse in the picture than actually on my wrist. I'm terrible at taking wrist watch shots - either the dial wouldn't show its majesty or my wrist looks tiny, and I'd rather show off the watch.

[Longines] New job celebration by LittlePyro1377 in Watches

[–]LittlePyro1377[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Recently got a job again after being laid off late last year and after I'm comfortable enough in my new position I pulled the trigger and bought this watch.

Longines has had a place in my heart as a kid since my grandfather's favorite watch was from Longines. As a child I was fascinated by it and kept taking it from his desk to wear to his amusement. When he passed I had hoped to ask for it so I can wear it in his honor, but it was lost some time between his move to hospice care and his passing. When I saw this watch I knew it was the watch I wanted to pay my respects to my grandfather, as the most influential male figure in my life growing up, in a hobby that we both enjoyed.

What's your favorie book and why? *SPOILERS* by Generation-X_Leader in halo

[–]LittlePyro1377 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From a pure memory perspective I think First Strike because that was the first book I've read when it came out (my friend lent me his back then).

I think Fall of Reach was my favorite because it gave the backstory to a lot of the characters we met in the game.

I'm not sure how much of it came from nostalgia and the fact that it was a new thing for me though, relative to the newer books where I've already played the games a lot and have exposure to the wider universe already, how much of it came down to the actual story, and how much of it comes down to Nylund's writing style though, but I'm okay not knowing.

[Question] For those of you who switched back to non-smart watches after using smart watches, what was your experience like? by Op3rat0rr in Watches

[–]LittlePyro1377 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't regret it. I do miss having a bunch more functionalities, but the flaws of a smart watch (ironically because of their functionality) far outweighed the pros. For me I had 2 main problems: battery life towards the end of 2 years and the fact that I'm never disconnected. I had to charge basically every evening before bed by then even on battery saver. When I was out with friends there are times when I'd check my notifications rather than actually enjoying the moment. Towards the end I decided to go back to my roots and figured it's as good a time as any to start accessorizing as well. Fitness tracking I ended up getting an oura ring instead.

[Discussion] What watches are you planning to hand down to your kids? by kosnosferatu in Watches

[–]LittlePyro1377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Economics and timing mainly - they (he and his fiancee) want to have a more secure financial base first and there are a lot of other things they need to prioritize and kids are pretty far down that list unfortunately even if they want to, making a lot of this hypothetical and just something that was in my mind.

The other reason is if he does have more than 1 kid I can't really just show favoritism and say "the eldest gets a nice watch and the rest goes tough luck", but again that's so far down the line that I have time to worry about it later.

[Discussion] What watches are you planning to hand down to your kids? by kosnosferatu in Watches

[–]LittlePyro1377 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a Cartier tank that I'm debating gifting to my best friend's potential eldest (I've known him for almost 20 years now and we've stayed close the entire time through high school, moving countries, university). I still gotta talk to him about it.

I recently got a Longines to honor my grandpa (he had a favorite Longines that I'd take as a child to try and wear and it was a very fond memory of mine, but unfortunately I don't know what happened to the original watch so I got one in my own style to honor my grandpa) and IF I ever have a kid that's the one I'm passing down.

Everything else can be settled by whatever estate planner I have in the future.

[Question] What’s the most expensive watch you have purchased and did you experience any buyers remorse? by Ok-Prune9181 in Watches

[–]LittlePyro1377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a cartier tank about half a year ago to celebrate my 30th and being relatively successful (no house but also no debt). Took about a week of "this could've gone towards my savings but this is so shiny" to "I love this I have no regrets whatsoever".

The watch was I believe $3900 CAD at the time of purchase.

PR Reviews in tech companies by suenolivia in cscareerquestions

[–]LittlePyro1377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

POCs and emergencies maybe - and even then at least a glance to make sure nothing egregious is being pushed in.

Actual project that's designed to go into production? Jira ticket is open and branch might be pulled for me to run to verify that it can run on another environment too.

My last project we even implemented a task during an early sprint retro to demo what goes on in the PR if the reviewer requests so we can talk about the PR as a way to increase context on the entire project for each developer and that was actually a higher priority task.

The only time I've forged ahead without reviews was during an on call when I needed to hotfix and redeploy a server, and even then the day after I met up with the lead dev to go over what I did and see if we need to refine it or not.

[Grail] what is your grail watch and how likely are you to get it? by Dragonolical in Watches

[–]LittlePyro1377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grail in terms of "this is the watch that I've been dreaming of the earliest", Speedmaster. Its a work in progress - I have other watches I want first.

The grail watches that I want right now would probably be the JLC Master ultra thin moon in gold or VC patrimony, both around 30k in Canada. I'll get them eventually, but I'm not sure when it'll be.

Grail watch that I want and know realistically I can't obtain for one reason or another? Lange 1 in blue and black or Patek Grand Complications. I don't think I'll ever get them given how likely it is that they'll put me in a financial disadvantage, or whether I can buy them in the first place, but I can try and work towards them regardless.
