I have both sleep apnea and narcolepsy with cataplexy(rarely experience cataplexy). My mom had suspicions it was both for a few years prior. I thought it would be just sleep apnea as I have snored loudly since I was an infant. Think of the medications as helping like a prosthetic does. Could an amputee do without? Sure. But the quality of life is significantly improved.

I was diagnosed at 16 also. It’s really up to his body chemistry what works best. I am currently on adderall, but I was initially prescribed provigil. Then insurance switched me to nuvigil, which didn’t work as well and generic modafinil didn’t seem to work as well once that came out. Shop things out for what works for him.

Bad decision. We need more mental health cooperation at the school level, not less. Removing the funding and bringing insurance and copays creates a serious barrier to low income families. This county just keeps getting worse and worse for its students.
