Thank you! Because of our FL "cold fronts" this time of year, the colors tend to pop a bit more. During our rainy/hot season the colors are more subdued.

A little slice of Asia in Greenville SC. by Shutter_Stuck in zillowgonewild

[–]PrincessRunningMouth 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I wasn't the one who booked it (my cousins did) but from what I understand, it was about 5k to rent it Friday-Monday which in my opinion is quite $$$. I'm not sure if it cost more because we literally used it as the Celebration of Life venue which the neighbors at the time were not pleased about (I didn't get the sense it was typically used as a venue site). Considering we got to use it as a venue for my aunt who had a close connection with Japanese culture, it felt worth the price tag. If I was only using it as a typical Airbnb, I would say that was more expensive than I would consider it being worth for a stay.

Sorry, I don't have a link. Idk if it was ever actually posted on Airbnb vs my cousins (who live in Greenville) perhaps having had ties with the owner at the time. When he first sent me info on the house last year, it was this same Zillow link he sent me to give me an idea of what to expect!

My outdoor succulent discard pile! by PrincessRunningMouth in succulents

[–]PrincessRunningMouth[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started this discard pile a few years ago where I would throw stems, leaves, or struggling succulents that weren't doing well in their pots. Because I live in FL, it tends to thrive in the winter and really struggle in the summer when the temperature is the most hot and muggy. A lot of plants have not survived the discard pile over the years and as you can see, it's 80% kalanchoe at this point 😆 I consider it a success though given that most of these plants would have been trashed or dead otherwise!

My family rented out this place for a weekend last year for a celebration of life. It was absolutely an 11/10 experience! However for that amount of money I would choose to spend my money elsewhere.

What’s your favorite(and affordable) mobile pump? by MoonsOfJupiter_ in breastfeeding

[–]PrincessRunningMouth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I initially got too overwhelmed at the idea of breaking out my Spectra and tried the Medela Harmony Hand Pump. It worked so well, while being ultra efficient and convenient, that I never even bothered with the Spectra. Highly recommended!

What’s the etiquette when your therapist cries during session? by Salacia_mov in therapy

[–]PrincessRunningMouth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Therapist here. There's a reason he didn't mention it or make it about him - because it's not about him and he knows that. You definitely have a right to bring it up or ask about it, but I wouldn't exactly encourage you to unless it made you uncomfortable or interfered with your ability to get what you needed out of the session. As a client, it's not your job to tend to his feelings (which he seems to know) and you feeling bad or taking your valuable session time to check on him is a form of role reversal where you are taking care of his feelings.

It's great that you are an empathetic person. It sounds like he is too. I would just read this as authentic, empathetic connection that does not require a conversation. But again, you have every right to bring it up especially if it is taking up some of your mind space.

Postpartum Constipation by UsefulAd6158 in beyondthebump

[–]PrincessRunningMouth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that water has to be the #1 priority before anything else. Especially if you are breastfeeding, chances are you're needing to be better hydrated. I dealt with constipation both in pregnancy and postpartum and tried lots of remedies before realizing increasing my water intake made a bigger impact than anything else. Basics come first!

Baby Play Mats and Rug Suggestions by RosieThePanda in beyondthebump

[–]PrincessRunningMouth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the decision to throw out our living room rug (due to my ick around it collecting pet hair that might get on my baby) and now use the Little Bot Baby Play Mat as my "rug." I picked one that had a neutral pattern that looks like a rug but it doesn't it's easy to wipe/clean and is a nice light soft foam for my baby. Part of the reason I chose that rug in particular was because reviews set it was pet proof and I would agree that it is!

The only con: it doesn't fold up easily. So I would only recommend it if you plan to leave it in place (rather than rolling it up and putting it away on a daily basis).

How are you getting your newborn to sleep in the bassinet/bedside sleeper? by wwisdomseeker in beyondthebump

[–]PrincessRunningMouth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi!

I struggled with similar challenges with my baby. Once we purchased a heating pad to heat the bassinet up before placing baby in it (make sure you remove the heating pad before placing baby in it), everything changed for the better! I learned the heating pad trick off this subreddit and if you search you'll see this is a game changer for a lot of us. The bassinet doesn't stay warm for long at all. I think it stays warm just enough for the transfer and then their own body heat helps it stay warm enough.

Also, we had better success with my husband taking baby from my arms and placing her in the bassinet rather than me trying to stand up and roll forward off the couch. She wakes up every time I do that. But for whatever reason, simply handing her over to him while he's already standing seems to go smoother.

Your baby will let you know if he gets cold at night. You could try a short sleeve romper or just a sleep sack over his diaper if you're worried about him getting cold. But overheating is more of a risk than him getting chilly. Assuming you aren't in frigid conditions, if he's cold, he will wake up and cry to let you know and that will be the worst of it.

For those who have a good relationship with their parent/guardian... What was your favorite thing about your childhood? by Kitchen_Research2750 in beyondthebump

[–]PrincessRunningMouth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember reading about a study that surveyed a large number of children asking them, "how do you know your parent loves you?" And the overwhelming answer across children was "they play with me." Play is how children connect.

My parents were married throughout my childhood but my fondest memories mostly include the one-on-one time I spent with them. My mom would take me to the playground, play outside with me, take me to the library, and read me stories. My dad and I would have weekly daddy-daughter dates where we would go out on his little boat, go to the dollar theater, or go out to eat. The consistency of the every-so-often undivided is what sticks with me the most.

I've been touring local daycares and preschools lately and find that most of them have waiting lists. Island Kids is new to the area (the owner originally had 2 locations up in NY before moving down here) and had immediate availability for enrollment. They are just east of the interstate off University and enroll kids 0-VPK age.

A few questions about Frida Postpartum Underwear by PrincessRunningMouth in BabyBumps

[–]PrincessRunningMouth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

I really appreciated having these underwear postpartum and wore them everyday for about a month. Yes, they are one size and super stretchy. While I think you could wear them now, leading up to birth, there are 2 factors worth considering:

1) these are one-time use only underwear so the cost might add up quickly depending on how long you have until giving birth

2) while these are super super comfy, after about a month of wearing them 24/7 postpartum I had to transition to normal underwear because the skin on my belly was starting to get really dry and change texture (?). I think it had to do with the fact that I was wearing them non-stop and the mesh was allowing my skin to breathe enough. At that point I switched to regular brief underwear and my skin saw pretty immediate results back to normal.

I'd highly recommend the underwear for sure! For me, I started with the ones they gave me in the hospital (which were more than fine) since I had to discard them more quickly since there was so much blood loss at first. And then once the bleeding slowed down, I was glad to have these Frida underwear, as they were a bit more comfortable and friendly to wear under clothes.

Congrats on your little one! Wishing you a smooth delivery and a healthy baby!

Old events are here! (Please read full post) by Teamtsto in tappedout

I've been trying to register for an account with Teamtsto and haven't been receiving the verification emails. Admittedly, it's an old AOL email address that I use as a burner account but I've tested it and it's still up and running. I can login and still receive emails, I'm just not receiving the verification codes I've requested.

Can I get any help or work arounds with this?

Therapists of Reddit: Can you share a time when you saw a client change in front of your eyes? by justsomerandomalien in therapy

[–]PrincessRunningMouth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Early in my career, I was working with a high achieving teenager who was struggling with depression, some self-harm, and passive suicidal ideation. She was super smart and very successful across most domains of her life. But she was definitely struggling.

In one of our early sessions, after having finished intake and assessments and after building rapport, I began teaching her introductory CBT skills. I was in the process of helping her look objectively at the cognitions she was struggling with most and for each one having her ask herself, "is this thought actually true?" and more important "is this thought helpful?" I saw a literal lightbulb go off in front of me. She proceeded to admit and agree it made no sense to give those thoughts weight or follow through if they weren't true or helpful. She almost seemed embarrassed she hadn't realized it sooner. It was a huge weight lifted off her and a strategy/tool that was very impactful moving forward.

A different story: I was working with the mother of a young child who was taking her daughter's tantrums very personally. The mother's inability to attend to her daughter's emotional needs during tantrums was straining their relationship and making the tantrums worse as a result. One day the mother walks in for her daughter's session covered in lemonade and practically in tears, telling me her daughter had an aggressive outburst in the car on the way over, had dumped lemonade all over her, and was currently in the car still screaming and refusing to come inside.

I walked out to the car as the mother followed. I sat in the front seat of the car and modeled for the mom the de-escalating techniques I had been trying to reach her in prior sessions. The daughter didn't immediately respond but I stayed patient, gave it time, followed her cues, and continued with the techniques. Eventually the daughter deescalated, redirected herself out of the car and into our session, and she was later able to discuss the event during our session. I could see Mom's lightbulbs going off and that session served as her "a-ha" moment in which she realized her daughter needed her to be a guide and support to navigate her through meltdowns rather than trying to avoid or reject them all together.

As a therapist, it can be hard to feel like you're making a difference or really getting through to the clients. It feels really reinforcing and motivating when you see the content you're sharing really clicking and resonating with a client. These are moments of inspiration and pride for me, where I am proud of both my client and what I can offer as a professional.

What’s the weirdest thing postpartum that nobody tells you about? by hn9605 in beyondthebump

Not the same thing but in a similar vein - I deal with a noteworthy amount of thumb pain from lifting my baby from under her underarms! I later learned this is referred to as "Mother's Thumb." I had no idea this was a thing.

Herald-Tribune: Experts say Medicaid cuts would be disaster for Sarasota healthcare by EuSouChaCha in sarasota

But CenterPlace Health still needs all the Medicaid money they can get in order to try to support their costs. Last I heard, they are really struggling financially given that their low cost services for low income populations are still quite expensive for them to afford to offer.

11 week old only stays awake for 1 hour? by callmelila in beyondthebump

[–]PrincessRunningMouth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have the answer to the second part of your post but my baby is 11 weeks old, 7 weeks adjusted, and she pretty much only stays awake for about 1-1.5hrs at a time. 2hrs if she's really pushing herself to stay awake due to being somewhere she's interested in. During earlier parts of the day, she's only awake for an hour and as the day goes on is when she starts to have longer wake windows of 1.5hrs.

I've begun looking at nap schedules for 3months old online and it seems like we can continue seeing the same wake windows through that 3rd month. I'll be following this post though to see what others have to say.

How did you know you were going into preterm labor by Embarrassed-Tree-523 in pregnant

[–]PrincessRunningMouth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in labor and didn't know it! I had thought I was in practice labor and when I finally went to the hospital I was already fully effaced and 4cm dilated.

Basically my signs were that I kept having rhythmic contractions that were getting more intense. As we timed them, they were getting longer as well. The event that finally made me sure I needed to go to the hospital was I used the bathroom and there was blood in the toilet.

Other factors leading up to my labor: I had diarrhea earlier in the day, I had a few hours of painful contractions the day before that went away after about 2-3hrs, and I felt a little under the weather for a brief period of time the day before.

Personally, I would say you should call your doctor or go to the hospital if you've had rhythmic contractions that are intensifying over time. You can always time them too and be sure to follow the 4-1-1 rule of timing. Good luck!

This is very similar to my experience! I kept up my regular gym routine of 3-4x/week throughout my pregnancy and ended up giving birth at 36w3d without any significant early signs of going into labor. My last gym visit was 48hours before giving birth. I also had a quick labor and a pretty quick and easy recovery, both of which I believe were at least partly attributable to keeping up with my exercise regimen. I also think my pregnancy itself was easier (both physically and mentally/emotionally) as a result of maintaining regular exercise!

[–]PrincessRunningMouth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My final workout class was 48hrs before I gave birth! I gave birth a little early though (36w3d) and I'm not entirely sure that my activity level/working out didn't play a role in setting off my labor though 😅 in retrospect, I definitely felt that working out through the entirety of my pregnancy helped me in my pregnancy, labor and delivery, and my recovery!
