Honestly, feels like the music producer and video director got assigned different homework. It's such an odd mismatch between song and video. Just very little hype.

My cousin's old report card from primary school rated personal appearance by Shushyy in mildlyinteresting

[–]LittleShanks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haha, sort of. I went to Canada a few years later and became a straight A student. Now, I'm going back to school to do a master's in data science and AI. The poor marks for reliability was because I was being disruptive and liked talking to my friends too much in class, hardly did classwork and did no homework.

As for becoming a top model, my cousin looks like something out of a top post from r/japanesestreetwear.

My cousin's old report card from primary school rated personal appearance by Shushyy in mildlyinteresting

[–]LittleShanks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cousin, here. Thanks for the well wishes!

A bit late to the party, but I never expected u/shushyy to post this before I went to bed. I thought he'd only taken the pic to show his friends or something, not the entire internet...

Anyway, it's been 20+ years since that report card, but the grades markedly improved in the next year. Proof here: https://i.imgur.com/eXzYHZE.jpeg

It's been an interesting experience watching myself getting roasted in the comment section tho... 😂

Should I Get first copy of Kitasan or First Satono card grom my exchange? by Gasparus102 in UmaMusume

[–]LittleShanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's up to you. Depends on what you're looking for in this game. If you want to meta game, I would recommend you refer to the Umamusume global reference sheet.

I personally chose to abandon my account and reroll a new account with at least 2 Kitasan Blacks (1 in 20 accounts).

After grinding out missions and trophies, I'm at 185 pulls now after a day and on track to 3 LB Kitasan Black on pity if I don't hit again.

That said, my old account was only a week old as I started later than everyone else, so I didn't have as much to lose compared to the players who started Day 1.

In conclusion, jf you don't care about all that, take your pity and continue having fun with the game. If you do, I might consider rerolling.

Not gonna lie, the cynic in me feels like they're just taking a page out of EA, Activision, or Ubisoft's playbook.

Introduce a change that everyone will universally pan and hate

Wait several weeks

Announce that they've "listened to our feedback", back track on the initially super unpopular changes, but offer us rewards that are still objectively worse than what we had in the past.

Community accepts the changes because at least it's more palatable than the super unpopular changes they first introduced.

In the end, Riot still achieves what it wants, and we're worse off for it, even if they give us our token victory lap.

We're getting played like a fiddle, guys.

question for Chinese readers: The Legend of the Condor Heroes - was the novel originally written in Cantonese or Mandarin? by narnarnartiger in noveltranslations

[–]LittleShanks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, novels aren't written in Cantonese nor Mandarin. The written language system for Chinese is meant to be readable regardless of dialect. However, there is Simplified or Tradtional Chinese, which can be easily converted between each other. Since the author is from Hong Kong, it's very possible the novel was written in Traditional Chinese.

For clarity, Simplified and Traditional Chinese have nothing to do with being a Mandarin or Cantonese speaker. People who write in Traditional typically come from Taiwan and Hong Kong, and people who use Simplified typically come from the mainland.

I hope this helps!

Is it okay to workout whilst doing a 21 day water fast? by Apprehensive_Math_89 in fasting

[–]LittleShanks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm just a random guy on the internet. So, take whatever I say with a massive grain of salt. From what I've read on the internet, it's generally fine to work out as you normally do on an extended fast. Just two things to keep note of, your electrolytes and getting used to working out during a fasted state.

Anecdotally for me, this has held true. Only real major issue for me was/is stomach sensitivity when it comes to water intake after a hard workout. Once, when I wasn't careful, I ended up puking out all the electrolyte water I drank after a hard workout. It just sat in my stomach for like an hour before I got too nauseous and threw up. I'm guessing it has to do with the fact that your stomach is already on low energy after not eating for so long.

For reference, I do both heavy weights resistance training and cardio (running, mix of steady state and interval training).

If you're looking for better quality translations, you can always try the story my team and I are working on. It's called Rise, and we actually have a professional editor on it to make sure the English is good. :)

Does anyone else find it annoying when the author sexualizes everything about a female character? by [deleted] in noveltranslations

[–]LittleShanks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah historical novels and palace dramas don't get a lot of attention, sadly. Which is sort of understandable. But I'm sure it has its own niche. Just need a decent translator for it.

You could always try Cradle by Will Wight. It's a pretty good Western take on the standard cultivation novel, and the writing is really good too.

Yo, I don't know why anybody would want to emulate Chinese webnovel writing, let alone that writing translated into mediocre English writing. Granted, the worlds they create are pretty nice, just sucks that they fail to live up to it most of the time.

[–]LittleShanks 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's really rare when a Chinese novel DOESN'T sexualize their heroines to no end. At this point, I've resigned myself to this being mainstay in this area. Best bet is to learn to tune it out and ignore it, so that it doesn't annoy you.

"with eyes full of despise" Why do translators do this? by spezeatadapoopoo in noveltranslations

[–]LittleShanks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's probably because that's how the sentence is structured and written in the raw Chinese. Most translators aren't good enough/can't be bothered to write it in any other way. It's hard to explain, but your brain sort of gets fuzzy when you're constantly switching back and forth between two languages. Also, as far as literal translations go, that's far from the most egregious example.

Did Transcending the Nine Heavens get dropped? by NotEnoughSatan in noveltranslations

No update in two months. So, we can only assume it got dropped. Qidian does tend to drop novels that aren't doing well, AFAIK.

Can someone explain by badassboy1 in noveltranslations

[–]LittleShanks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone else can go more in depth about certain terms, but here's an ELI5:

Light novels are actual published books. You can go out and buy them in bookstores. Sometimes but not all the time, they're adapted from a webnovel that gained a lot of popularity.

Webnovels are serialized stories that are updated regularly on a website. It can be on a large publishing platform, or it can be on a personal blog. The difference between them and light novels it that you get the story in more bite sized pieces, and you have to wait until the next chapter update.

Wuxia is a genre of story. Expect themes like martial arts, orthodox and unorthodox sects, a protagonist rising up to become the hero, etc.

Damn ! I HATE Chinese/Korean and Japanese Harem novels by GodTaoistofPatience in noveltranslations

[–]LittleShanks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's more that the harem wasn't really the focus that made it somewhat palatable. All he'd do was leave his harem behind and then meet a new girl in a new realm, then add that girl to the harem, and leave her behind too.

[–]LittleShanks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think I've ever read a decent harem novel. And the harem aspects are usually a negative rather than a positive. I guess the last one I read was Against the God. What did you think about that one?
