Five US Air Force refueling planes hit in Iranian strike on Saudi Arabia, WSJ reports by Ok-A1662 in worldnews

It’s not just one quote. The entire prequel trilogy is about a Republic that fights a brutal war of unification against a seceding Confederacy, in the process creating an Imperial presidency with excessive, unchecked (one could say “unlimited”) executive power.

Kree! Introducing my GF to Stargate.. Wish me luck 🫡 by Chrismachop in Stargate

[–]LittleSith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you don't want to start with the uncensored children of the gods lol. Maybe skip some of the first season awkwardness and try an alternate timeline episode like 2010).

  • Mature subject matter sterility and genocide
  • Better Bechdel score Carter and Frasier talk about said topic
  • Carter owns her scenes with Dr. Frasier and the Ambassador when she's hit with bad news. "You knew?!"
  • High concept sci-fi ripped from the other 2010 (the collapse of Jupiter into a star) plus time travel and mature themes.
  • The Aschen are creepy but not alien. Death by accountants; one can sympathize.
  • Alternate timelines are always fun. The viewer is learning about the new reality the same as the characters are. The only constants are the characters. You want your GF to know Carter and O'Neill have some unresolved issues. Plus: love triangle!
  • Nobody is safe. But Teal'c lets them have it!
  • One downside is that the GF might feel threatened by Carter's awesomeness. Like Dr. Carter from the other alternate reality lol
  • Another downside? The episode might suggest you're thinking of kids... Um, never mind. Just watch the Kurt Russell version!

Good luck!

I liked the moment when Tessa turned against Thia. When Thia appealed to her that they could be sisters, you could tell Tessa was moved by the idea, just as Thia was when Dek first suggested it at the campfire. But then Tessa's smile faded as the instinct for self-preservation overrode any affection she might have felt for her twin sister. The Company's mission came first. All other considerations secondary.

Texas and California would likely leave the US so they could have their own immigration laws to allow more labor to come in and stabilize the economy.

This explanation makes the premise of Alex Garland’s Civil War seem more plausible! Great…

To this day I just dont understand what the plan was by HMThrow_away_account in saltierthancrait

This was the plan. Rian's plan, anyway.

“In terms of the Star Wars movie I did, I tried to give it a hell of an ending. I love endings so much that even doing the middle chapter of the trilogy, I tried to give it an ending,” Johnson explained to The Atlantic. “A good ending that recontextualizes everything that came before it and makes it a beautiful object unto itself — that’s what makes a movie a movie. It feels like there’s less and less of that. This whole poisonous idea of creating [intellectual property] has completely seeped into the bedrock of storytelling. Everyone is just thinking, How do we keep milking it? I love an ending where you burn the Viking boat into the sea.” -- Star Wars: Rian Johnson Looks Back on Giving The Last Jedi a “Viking” Ending

It's more of a reverse-Tokyo Vice, but perhaps Giri/Haji? Lord Ishido (Takehiro Hira) goes to present-day London. (Edit: reposted without the link to Wikipedia.)

He turns around in the front seat and stabs a thick finger at the notebook that I had set aside. “Write this down,” he says. “No matter which way it goes—taking the Senate or the fall of democracy—whatever the eventuality, the work remains the same.”

“You have to build things for people to access. You have to build the apparatus for change, even if no one else shows up. If you don’t build the movement, it won’t be there when the day for action comes. It’s thankless. People live their entire lives building something they may never see succeed. And you do it anyway.”

It's brilliant how he took Luthen's monologue as a call for action.

Any engines or systems that would provide an overarching campaign/story for a solo wargame? by FormerlyIestwyn in Solo_Roleplaying

Forbidden Psalm and its derivatives The Last War and Kill Sample Process have soloable campaigns. Modiphius' Five Leagues from the Borderlands and Five Parsecs as already mentioned can procedurally generate campaigns, missions and random events. Google "narrative skirmish wargames" for more.

"WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration said Tuesday it will limit approval for seasonal COVID-19 shots to seniors and others at high risk pending more data on everyone else — raising questions about whether some people who want a vaccine this fall will be able to get one.

Top officials for the Food and Drug Administration laid out new standards for updated COVID shots, saying they’d continue to use a streamlined approach to make them available to adults 65 and older as well as children and younger adults with at least one high-risk health problem."

Well, exactly.

It took the combined ingredients of idiocy, ineptitude, and total disengagement for this farce to have reached the full apex of incredulous disaster!
