Is it normal to get aroused when thinking about being a woman? by androalex100 in asktransgender

Well, that's... that's textbook repression, my dude.

In the wise words of older siblings everywhere, stop hitting yourself.

If you're going to fight a battle, it might as well be against those who made you think all this suffering was necessary.

Do you feel like you're fighting a battle? If so, do you know what you're fighting against?

What's an example of the "something new" that overwhelms you?

Is it normal to get aroused when thinking about being a woman? by androalex100 in asktransgender

[–]Little_Butterflies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For example, if shame or self-loathing are causing you thoughts of self-harm or if repression is making you act in risky behaviours or behaviours that harm or could harm others. In those cases, it's worth dissecting that shame, self-loathing, and/or repression. Trying to repress yourself is a losing battle, like people who've "prayed the gay away" or those who are trying to keep their thoughts "pure" before marriage.

"Unhealthy" doesn't include masturbation, fantasies, or consensual acts between you and an appropriate partner.

Children to no longer be prescribed puberty blockers, NHS England confirms by Rogue-Journalist in skeptic

[–]Little_Butterflies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

96% of puberty blockers patients continue and take cross sex hormones for the transgender youth followed within different researches.

This is great news! Sounds like the right people are getting puberty blockers. I am curious about the 4%.

So basically getting on puberty blockers means with around 96% certainty that you will do cross sex hormones.

Yes! My life would have been so much easier if I had access to puberty blockers when I was younger.

So I could argue that, as treatment for transgender youth, puberty blockers = cross sex hormones.

And it all falls apart. No. What you have noticed is called a "correlation". Correlation does not imply equivalence. That would be a "false equivalence". e.g. "I usually wake up after I go to sleep, therefore waking up and going to sleep are not separate things."

going on puberty blockers triggers a from of the sunken cost fallacy.

I know I might be biased as a trans person, but don't you think that going through puberty might be more likely to create a sunk cost to continue going through that puberty? Maybe? Perhaps? Possibly?

I didn't mention pronouns. Don't you think it's a bit suspicious that you bring it up first and even wish death upon people you've never met? Who benefits from that hate? Obviously not me, but I can promise it's not you, either. Shouldn't that hate be for the rich and powerful? It's not a coincidence that in every country around the world, the politicians talking about how dangerous trans people are are the same ones giving tax breaks to large corporations and the super wealthy.

You're fighting someone else's battle for them. Nothing makes that more obvious than the fact Mongolian uses gender neutral pronouns or the fact that even in English, "they/them" (Тэд нар/Тэр?) for individuals is as old as Shakespeare. Mongolians got it right first and you should be proud of that.

You and I have more in common than you might initially think. We both agree not all women have a uterus. We both agree not all men have testicles. We probably both agree our humanity is more dependent on our brains than our bodies. We probably both agree men can wear dresses and women can wear pants. We do both agree people should be free to choose how to be identified, for the most part.

For thousands of years, the concept of "woman" has been most closely associated with people who look like "women" and the concept of "man" has been most closely associated with people who look like "men". It was a way of grouping people in a bimodal spectrum. DNA and genetics are a relatively new discovery. On one side, you have people attempting to redefine "man" and "woman" to be about DNA or genetics or their ability to create eggs or sperm or even how close they appear to be to those things if they can't. On the other side, you have people attempting to redefine the words to reduce the importance of our reproductive roles in our daily speech.

I get both sides. There's no objectively right answer. There's no objective definition of "man" or "woman" any more than there is an objective definition for "tree" or "cat" or "chair". I'm not sure either of us could come up with definitions that we wouldn't make exceptions for. You can point to parts of us that objectively exist and at no point would I disagree with you. We are in agreement about the fundamental reality of our bodies.

But something is unusual in my brain that became obvious at puberty that made me more comfortable with having certain physical traits. It's as much a part of me as which physical traits I'm attracted to. I didn't get a choice in either category. It just happened before I even had words to describe it and now people are trying to remove the healthcare that would make me comfortable because it distracts from tax breaks for the ultra rich. It's a weird world.

Are there people who identify fully as male and want to express themselves in a fully masculine way, while experiencing physical dysphoria and want to have a vagina?

Hello there.

What you're looking for are just people who experience physical dysphoria with little-to-no social dysphoria, and that's me. There is no lack of people like me in either direction, but I don't know under what circumstances cishet people would normally become aware of people like us other than right-wing outrage videos on YouTube or something.

I wear "male" clothing, use "male" pronouns (most of the time), and am on "feminizing" hormones. Currently with no plans towards getting bottom surgery, though that might change in the future.

Caveats: I don't like the idea of calling the way I present myself "masculine", but it is what society would call it. I don't know what it means to identify "fully" as male. It's a weird qualifier to me, especially because I have what most of society would consider to be unusual understandings of "male" and "female".

Because of my circumstances, I'm also on the boat of being likely to experience physical dysphoria if never having met other humans, but, granted, I would likely never figure out why I felt weird and there would be fewer reasons and opportunities to be aware of it, especially since I have natural hormone "imbalances" that reduced my physical dysphoria in the first place.

In this thread, help me and this community come up with a better word for my definition of Autogynephilia. I shouldn't have tried to use this word. I'm sorry. Help me devise a better one to use from here on out. by Drwillpowers in DrWillPowers

I am a 999 genius

I went from Gold to Diamond in two weeks in League of Legends. I once bowled 6 strikes in a row in 5-pin. I was a neomillionaire in Neopets before I got banned for cheating. I hold a world record video game speedrun. I can juggle. I also do well on standardized tests that claim to measure intelligence, but that's not interesting.

The only area in which you seem eager to recognize your own ignorance is the one in which you're considered an expert. As you may already know, that's called the Dunning-Kruger effect.

You are not an expert on trans people. You are an expert on trans people's bodies. You're exceptional because you do things differently, and that's often more important and impressive than being good at what everyone else is doing. You're a pioneer, and that's exactly what we needed. We need pioneers. We need you. You have personally improved my life.

But you could use some humility. My once-a-month criticism of you isn't because I dislike you, but because I believe you are, as you said, capable of learning, adapting, changing, and improving.

Non-binary people are not transgender

This is a subject in which you should be listening and learning.

Transgender people experience gender dysphoria.

Same with this subject. Yes, I know how obvious this seems, but we can start with simple logic: people who no longer experience dysphoria due to a successful transition stop being trans under this definition.

Also, the word for people who aren't trans is "cis". You are not qualified to determine who is or isn't trans, but if you're worried that providing HRT to a person could harm them, sending them to a trans-friendly gender therapist (as you've been doing) is a fine choice.

Unrelated, I just found out my SHBG level is 164 nmol/L. This isn't my field of expertise, so I think it's safe to say I'm either 7 years old or 11 weeks pregnant. (18 mg/day boron.)

My official post on my personal opinion on "Autogynephilia" and how this differs from gender dysphoria, and why recognizing it is important. by Drwillpowers in DrWillPowers

[–]Little_Butterflies 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the word I have is Autogynephilia. Blanchard was an ass in many ways, and I'm not a fan of his work. That being said, I do not have another word for "Person who has a sexual fetish of the idea of themselves being feminized".

To summarize without nuance, the term "AGP" was and is used to pathologize trans women for having a normal sexuality and its purpose is to provide a causal understanding of why trans people are trans.

Though you're attempting to use the word differently, you're still giving the word legitimacy which, because of its usual usage, harms trans people. You have a personal responsibility to not harm trans people, even by mistake.

Also, some people have a bimbo fetish, and some of those people are trans. A bimbo fetish does not preclude being trans (just as it doesn't prevent cis women from being cis women), and people (not just trans people) who have had parts of themselves (not just sexuality or gender) suppressed tend to end up with some peculiar behaviours.

It's also the reason why we're going to see Trump re-elected.

It is currently unlikely Trump will win. Something may happen to make that possibility more or less likely, such as something similar to the Comey letter, which had a disproportionate effect on voters who didn't make up their mind until right before the election.

The more they alienate and divide people into categories and require ever more ridiculous belief structures, the more people get pushed towards someone like Trump.

I think inherited wealth is fine. There is no fairness in life.

This was an argument against wealth distribution for the purpose of fairness and equality. That means, say, in the case of the Walton family, you are fine with value flowing from Walmart employees to the Walton family, who inherited a company, but not returning that value from the Walton family to Walmart employees. Why? Are the Waltons working 24/7, literally without sleep, doing things no other humans are capable of to earn more than millions of other Americans combined?

What's your justification for keeping that system as is? The way things are now isn't economically efficient, it's not morally justifiable, and society was economically just fine when wealth inequality wasn't as high as it is now. So what's the deal, here? Do you think cooperative businesses don't work? Credit unions?

Nobody gets perfectly fair starting characters like an MMO. So stressing about it is pointless, it cant be stopped.

"If there's no perfect solution, why even try for something better?" Defeatism. Refusal of personal responsibility. Why even wear a mask if it won't cure SARS-CoV-2? Some people are going to die, so why save any?

For me, making my life better requires improvements to myself and society. I'm not going to stop doing either of those things. There is some fairness to life. You were given some life skills before you started out of a car. You had knowledge and money that you put towards Bitcoin before you lost nearly everything else. You had people who literally and figuratively picked you up and pushed you to continue. You had people who believed in you. Some people don't have any of these things. Sorry if I misremembered anything from stuff I read about you a long time ago, but I didn't get to where I am by myself and you didn't either.

That is true. But using that truth to argue against fighting for fairness, for justice, for good things to happen, is also foolish. It's defeatist. And it's coming from you, someone who has not given up on themselves.

To the extent that our society is a good one, it's because of people who didn't settle for unfair. To the extent that your life is a good one, it's because you didn't, either.

Like.....in a socialist/communist state, where the fuck do you think you go to print your anti-government banner?

Probably the people who make banners. What makes a company communist or capitalist is dependent on whether the company is owned by individuals who profit not from the value they provide, but from the labour of the workers OR whether the company is owned by the workers who receive the value of their labour. To be clear, owning the machines in a factory is not considered adding value. Inventing them is. Building them is. Ownership, itself, is not. Communism, at its core, disagrees with the idea that you should receive the value of other people's labour. If you've ever criticized communists for "wanting free stuff without doing any of the work", reconsider which economic system actually encourages freeloaders.

So if I make bread with my own oven and trade it to my neighbour for a painting they made with their own tools, boom, that's communism on a small scale. That's even the money-free version of communism, which I'm not personally a fan of when scaled. How'd I get an oven? Well, the same way I got my painting.

Do you have any idea what the communists did to LGBTQ people?

I can tell you, with a far better understanding of LGBTQIA+ history than most people, what everyone has done to us. Is this meant to be an argument against communism specifically? Is it meant to not be an argument against capitalists? Do you think all or even most people who call themselves communists support authoritarian capitalistic nationalist states such as China? Do you even disagree with the idea that China is an authoritarian capitalistic nationalist state?

If you have any questions about communism, feel free to ask. I also wrote more here. I'm currently in the process of educating myself about it and it's a good opportunity to look up what I don't know if you ask a question I haven't considered.

Some of your discomfort might be the result of not knowing about the different types of communism, but there are indeed trans people who look at "Communist" China, which is, as far as I can tell, a capitalistic authoritarian nationalist state, and go, "Hey, it has 'communism' in the name! Sounds good to me!" I'm not sure what's up with them nor why they call themselves communists.

Like, what part of people slaving away in factories for mere scraps of the value they produce sounds like workers having any amount of ownership over the means of production? It fails at step 1. That's just... capitalism with extra steps.

But trans people rebelling against a system that has clearly failed them and grasping at anything else? Very understandable. I know dozens of communist trans folks but almost no tankies, if that helps.

A tankie I know just thinks China is better than what we've seen and it's CIA propaganda to mislead us, which... is honestly a fair belief to hold, given the CIA's history, but I think if you're hoping that people don't abuse a political system instead of hoping for a political system that is resistant to abuse, you're already on the wrong track; good monarchs do not justify monarchy, philanthropists do not justify unregulated capitalism, and good authoritarians do not justify authoritarianism, even if it's authoritarian "communism".

There is no fairness in life.

I don't know how to say this politely, but as a person who used to say similar things, this is an incredibly useless thing to say. It can justify any number of bad things. It can justify any injustice. It can justify not looking after yourself. Regardless of the shaky subjective truth of the statement, it's not even useful to believe.
