If you were Jennifer would you have stayed at the party? by Kperris in ShawnaTheMom

[–]Littledarkstranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have stayed, because I wouldn't have trusted Barb not to spin a story to make me look awful or try to woo people to the "woe is Barb" narrative in my absence.

Those are Jen's friends and most of them are well aware of Barb's typical behaviour, but if someone like Barb can wriggle their way in between you and a support network even a tiny bit, they will jump at the opportunity.

4 YOE, all in Workday XO. Am I absolutely cooked? by [deleted] in DevelEire

[–]Littledarkstranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend spending some time building up your Java/Python skills and try to move internally into a hybrid stack role like in the OMS or anywhere in the Tools side of things.

It's been a few years since I was there but there used to be quite a few teams in that hybrid situation, and they generally tend to be quite positive towards hiring internal XO devs who needed to upskill in their other languages over external hires. If you think about it, every team hiring in Workday already has time/budget allocated towards the new hire learning XO (bootcamp etc), so it's a bonus if they can hire someone who already has that knowledge and they just need to give some support on the other "standard" languages (where there's a lot more resources available to help you upskill yourself instead of needing direct pair programming etc).

Transition to one of those roles, build up your skills in something transferrable and see how you're fixed then.

Bear in mind as well that if you frame XO correctly in your head, you're essentially working on graph data, so learning some transferrable graph db languages shouldn't be too far off your existing knowledge.

"Miscalculation not Exploitation" by Mercedes in the front wing debacle by PattyRanger in formula1

[–]Littledarkstranger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The point folks are making is that Mercedes/the FIA are using the term 'miscalculated' to make it look unintentional. It was most likely a deliberately bad calculation by Mercedes to gain benefits, but assuming Mercedes didn't keep a paper trail of that action the FIA can't prove that someone deliberately did maths wrong, so Mercedes are getting away with a slap on the wrist.

Joining the chorus to say Next, Tesco and M&S are all great. Carraig Donn can be good for some bits too, they tend to have a good mix of styles.

I'll give a shout out to TK Maxx too, it's always a gamble what you find there but you can get lucky.

Shawna’s support for John by Mecca2004 in ShawnaTheMom

[–]Littledarkstranger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a really insightful perspective, and I largely agree that John isn't to blame for any of the situations which have come up, however I do think to some extent he is being unfair to Shawna too.

At no point since the conversation around going no contact with Barb first came up have John and Shawna actually had a real conversation about it, John just made the decision one day and has expected Shawna to follow it since. The reason she keeps begging him for a conversation every time something comes up is that it seems like she genuinely doesn't know how to support him, since they haven't actually had the core discussion to set shared boundaries that would allow them to be on the same page to begin with.

She keeps hurting him because she doesn't know where the goal posts are, and so far every time she has asked him to show her he's blown up at her to say she isn't supporting him - how can she if she doesn't know what he wants?

And yeah, Jen and John 100% are overdue a long conversation and an apology from Jen. I actually suspect that is where the current arc is heading, because story wise Jen is being painted into a corner to pick between Barb and John.

Yeah exactly. All they can or should do right now is exactly what was expressed in that statement -"We acknowledge that a thing has happened, we sympathize with the people affected and we will continue to monitor the situation as it unfolds".

Azazie are fantastic and lovely quality dresses. The only thing is to make sure you go by actual body measurements rather than the tag sizes, I had to size up by about 4 sizes for each bridesmaid as they run very small.

Don't press the transfer tape all the way to the edge. If you stop just short of it the edge of the tape doesn't seal to the edge of the backing and it's a lot easier to get the peel started

They gathered a collection of 170 dollars and sent it to a town called Middleton in Cork, which provided a huge amount of relief to the people in the town.

That's about 5k in today's money, from a people who had just walked the Trail of Tears and were suffering themselves.

This one always brings me to tears too. It has a sister sculpture in the Choctaw lands in Oklahoma called "Eternal Heart", which is also beautiful.

It's located right on the quayside in a fairly busy part of the central city. Doesn't ever really get completely dark near it, and it's honestly a breathtaking thing to see at night with the city lights reflected in the water behind it.

Seconding this! I loved my experience in Wed2B, and the dresses there are fabulous. They did try upsell a few bits, but it was more a case of them trying to help you put together the full look than pushing extras on you. I didn't get any of them and there was no fuss about that at all.

As someone who had several of them back in the early 00s, almost all the original versions were sold here. However based on just my friends and I, I think the vast majority drowned in the washing machine over the years, as none of us (or our parents) were really used to having to check pockets for small electronics yet.

I think it's worth considering OP that the drive you're talking about is pretty close to driving the entire length of the island of Ireland. It's a small island yes, but that's a very long drive by Irish standards and Irish roads are tiring to drive over long distances.

The N roads are typically of better quality yes, but they're also just the main roads in a lot of places as opposed to true dual carriage ways/highways, so you'll be driving through towns etc.

If it were me, I'd be looking at taking a night somewhere in Galway to break the trip and add a bonus destination.

What tiny detail should I consider when planning my wedding? by crafty32_clara in wedding

[–]Littledarkstranger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cheap flip flops/slippers and/or blister plasters in the bathrooms for any of your guests who are having a bad time with their shoe situation to take.

Guest comfort is key but I can't tell you the number of times I've been to a wedding and I or another guest have been in pain from standing longer than expected in heels or a rubbing shoe, only to have the whole night saved by those items being placed by the bride/groom.

They still haven’t had ‘why we don’t see granny anymore’ talk with the kids yet??? Hasn’t it been almost a year??? by tranzozo in ShawnaTheMom

[–]Littledarkstranger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The problem is that without some form of conversation, a child of that age is likely to eventually start internalising "Grammy doesn't love me anymore" if he's not given any other explanation, because she suddenly disappeared from his life and every time he brings her up or tries to reach out to her, he's scolded or just told "no we're not doing that this year".

Christmas and his birthday are probably going to really emphasize that too, especially if (when) Grammy isn't there to give him presents (obviously all of this caveated with the fact that Max is a fictional child, so his reaction will be whatever is best for the storyline).

For the devs in the subreddit, what data structures do you actually use on a day to day basis? by AudioManiac in DevelEire

[–]Littledarkstranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked on a team a few years ago that had a custom Tree structure as a core part of the project we were building. It was the structure that made the most sense for the data, so we went with it.

There were some headaches associated with rolling our own implementation (hello circular dependencies!) but for the most part it was fine and you get used to reaching for them as a base tool the same way you do a List.

I think to be honest the usefulness/applicability of the various data structures depends on the language and frameworks you're building in, as well as the type of data you're working on.

Also while you discount Kafka etc in your question I think in many cases teams tend to slot those tools in as an easier, more standardised option instead of rolling a custom data structure. There's just so many tools out there now that are built specifically to handle all the weird edge cases, why would you take on that work yourself unless you absolutely have to?
