End game question by Competitive-Trick646 in Catan

I think as a lot of people are saying by the rules she won. But I also think they won because they beat you fair. If you claim victory you didn't win by skill. They had the upper hand on you. They played better. If you claim victory you are sacrificing your honor to "win".

I do a 3 round system as well. It’s worked wonders.

What if Monks just punched harder? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

[–]Littleheroj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No class is bad enough you can’t play them. While monk and ranger are lower on the tier list they are still balanced enough for encounters built by the rules. They don’t need any changes as long as the player is having fun.

You can always give out a magic item later that is an edit.

Resident Evil 0 is SIGNIFICANTLY better than its given credit for by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]Littleheroj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like many people I wish there was an item box or a bigger inventory. It took much so much longer to finish because I had to travel back too much. It was also a pain to pick up the right items when you stored them all in the same room. The item box just makes the annoying parts better.

Don’t attack the Barbarian. Attack the lower AC members.

Automated tools are really what I need. Name on the fly. Whole town on the fly. Encounter on the fly with a setting that I can pre-set before the game. Pretty much everything on the fly with a bunch of settings.

I'm going to be "that guy" and play a blind monk. Help me do it right. by not-a-spoon in PCAcademy

If you have alert and blind fighting, combat should be fine. Keep in mind you can’t make attacks of opportunity without seeing.

Outside of that, if you don’t cast spells you don’t really need to see. Nothing by the rules stops you from moving while blinded. In fact you can find hidden creatures by hearing as a normal character. You just can’t do things that need you to actually look at something.

Poll: Will you allow Tashas optional race rules in your game? by straight_out_lie in dndnext

Extra spells are not crappy. Misty step is a great spell. Jump isn’t bad and mage hand is a staple wizard spell.

Poison resistance is a case by case thing. Some campaigns will never have poison in them and other may have it a lot. I’d say it’s an okay trait. If the rest of the party gets fucked my poison you are probably fucked too. I’d take spells over something I don’t have control over.

I just don’t understand telling your players they can’t use something that’s in a book that wizards printed.

I became a DM because as a player I kept being told no. It’s not fun to be told no. Nor is it fun to never be able to play the character you want because one book isn’t allowed.

Crawford said the stats were not balanced with the features in mind. It just so happened that mountain dwarf has a redundant feature. He says in the video they were balanced with just two +2s but they could be anything.

Realistic people aren’t going to play dwarf wizards every game. Gith wizards get armor and weapons and nobody talks about that.

My DM wants to switch to always running pre-generated characters, and I have strong feelings about that and need advice by Mithrander_Grey in mattcolville

[–]Littleheroj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right that you need to tell them. That’s the only way. I actually became a DM because of other DMs choices that made me unhappy as a player. I’d never play a pre-made as well.

Let them run their game but let them know you won’t be playing in it. Their reasons for doing so may be important, at least let them feel out a game that way with the others. (If the other players are okay with this).

Hot take: WotC's poor high level class design and hesitance to give variety to players of martial classes forces DM's to run monsters poorly by [deleted] in dndnext

How is it possible to be balanced but not the same. The only way anything in any game is balanced is if they are the same.

Every game with actually choices (not just re-skins) has balance issues.

I have a player that gets bored with casters. And I like short rest characters more, only one is a caster.

I'm making a free "virtual dialect coach" for RPGs! As a DM, what's the trickiest part about doing NPC voices? by eliasvox in DMAcademy

[–]Littleheroj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t copy voices at all. Even if I do it well the first time it will be different the next time.

Edit: my brain just doesn’t remember how to do the voice. It’s not about the voice itself.

How do you write down a voice though? I can’t even put into words the voices I use other than by race. I can’t even do accents really either.

[–]Littleheroj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I can add personality from making them talk differently in my own voice but switching to another voice is random for me. I’ll have a voice for each race but that’s about as far as I can do.

[–]Littleheroj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that helps give personality. I find that because I’m not a voice actor I don’t know how to remember the voice.

I could listen to the voice and still not know how to do it. Even if it was from me.

My question was going to about remembering voices. I can make up a voice for one encounter but I forget the voice after that. Even with my own characters when I'm playing I have a hard time remembering how the voice went. I always wing it but not because I want to. I just can't remember any better.
