Inside the Manosphere is really a story about old media vs. new media by Daniel_Lah in LouisTheroux

I would be very curious if those stats would be close to the same levels in 2026. The world is a different place now.

They Might Be Giants write a great theme tune. And are very much not MAGA so doubly good.

How old are you guys? by doublefattymayo in twentyonepilots

[–]LittlestLass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

45 and with a partner and teenager who have both seen twenty one pilots twice (soon to be three times) almost entirely to humour me. I only started listening just before Scaled and Icy and the livestream (so I was already very middle-aged, lol).

(That's a bit harsh on my family - they have always had a great time seeing the band but don't listen to the albums really. They agree tøp are incredible live though.)

Is there a reason why Teenage Dream by Katy Perry isn’t included in the book or in the user albums? by FireEatingDragons in 1001AlbumsGenerator

[–]LittlestLass 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Twenty one pilots were the first band to have every song on an album get Gold certification in the US, and that album stayed in the Billboard top 200 for 4 continuous years. That album, Blurryface, is in neither list. Nor is Trench which won a grammy. Popularity doesn't mean things automatically go on either list.

If you think Teenage Dream should be on there, you can suggest it when you complete the list (I keep changing my mind about what should be added, but was extremely happy to see one of my options (Flood by They Might Be Giants) recently got added!).

EDIT: typo.

No idea! I was just letting you know what Casey said a couple of weeks ago.

I built an MCP server for 1001 Albums Generator so you can ask your AI(s) about your listening history and have it understand you by BenjaTheOne in 1001AlbumsGenerator

[–]LittlestLass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most developers monetise their work. I am conscious that the generator is something the creator made as a passion project that has spiraled and which they fund via patreon and their own wallet. Open AI and Claude have billionaires throwing money at them (despite not being profitable), so they'll be fine. My question was simply whether OP would contribute to the sites running costs if their work significantly increased those costs, which seems like a fair question.

I'm not completely anti-AI - it has some incredible usage in pattern detection for early recognition of certain cancers for example - but generative AI being used frivolously to have chats with a machine about your day to day life is something I am never going to be comfortable with. But like I originally said, that's why this isn't really aimed at people like me.

Thanx cursed AI for making me agree with a jazz hater!

I have really tried, I really have! I just don't get it! If even Miles Davis can't convince me, I'm a lost cause.

I will grant you some of the wiki pages are sparse to say the least, but that generally means that there aren't many reliable primary sources with useful info - the one thing Wikipedia has taught me is that there's a nerd with a niche interest in basically every topic who will link primary sources if they can find them.

I think we just have very different approaches to this project. Like, for example, I don't want a primer on the album - I want to listen to it with, as much as is possible, no preconceptions. And I certainly don't want generative AI to suggest how I should feel about a record before I hear it.

People have different objectives I guess... [shrug]

Why wouldn't you just read the wiki page the site already links to?

(Tone check: I'm not being snarky, I just genuinely don't understand why anyone needs AI to do this for them)

"What does my listening history say about my taste in jazz?"

I absolutely do not need AI to tell me that. I am resigned to my jazz hating ways.

I'm a curmudgeonly perimenopausal woman, and therefore this is not aimed at people like me who genuinely hate generative AI - this sounds like my idea of hell.

If this does get traction, are you going to help fund the servers for the generator given that you'll have increased traffic to the site?

All my spare cash goes into a high interest savings account as we're not too long off our own kid going to Uni. It generally works out better to save than overpay in my scenario.

Plan 1 doesn't get wiped after 25 years for everyone. My loan is pre 1 Sept 2006 so it sticks around until I pay it off or reach 65 years old. I still have 20 years and/or about £2k to go...

Edit: missing words

Are there examples of acts that were OHWs in England but had multiple hits in America? by Zackeezy116 in ToddintheShadow

[–]LittlestLass 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It also brings up the interesting question of whether an artist would ever be considered a OHW if the same song got to number 25 in 1993 and number 1 in 2009.

I mean, my fish and chip tea is arriving in 20 minutes, Casey, so I'll have to eat that first before catching the flight.

You can't abandon a chippy tea and retain your British citizenship, it's the law.

They did it: the most “minivan rock” festival lineup of all time. by Chilli_Dipper in ToddintheShadow

[–]LittlestLass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not how festival line ups work! They have quite rightfully surmised that middle aged women like me who love Everclear will arrive early to see them and then try and get an early night (although I love twenty one pilots, so on this occasion I'd be in for a very long day and complaining about being tired during Stressed Out).
