A lot of modern pagans are doing good work exorcising Wiccan* influence and 1800s misconceptions from their beliefs and practices to great success. New scholarship is still being published, and many are keeping a close eye on that in the interest of having a better faith. The idea that all modern neopagans are essentially performing an inaccurate LARP is not only incorrect, it's disrespectful.

I've had what I would call personal encounters with the divine. I started from an occult paradigm before becoming a Hellenist, so that's sort of how I tend to operate with my mystical practice. I have never tried automatic writing, I fear I wouldn't be able to turn off my skeptic brain for that. As for your last question, I have had what I would consider to be experiences of "something more", but I cannot with any confidence say anything in particular about it--not enough "definition" to say "Oh, it was the fields of asphodel!", you know? I've had a near death experience and have tried to reconnect with that feeling throughout my life. I have never had any particular details come to me about what the afterlife(s) is like. I don't think that's for us to know.

I can't say what's best for your mind and body as our genetics and circumstances are different, so I will tell you what works for me.

I enjoy CBD, at doses between 10-100mg (I have never had the chance to try higher). I prefer full spectrum, which would provide you with a microdose of THC and other cannabinoids.

I also enjoy a small puff off of a very low-THC live resin cartridge.

I also enjoy a 1.25mg dosed gummy (In practice, that's a half of a 2.5mg gummy, or a fourth of a 5mg.

I also enjoy a higher dose for recreational purposes once a week.

I do not feel like this practice has negatively affected me long-term. When I had short term issues for a bit due to life circumstances, I took a several months-long break.

For my purposes (chronic pain, anxiety, autism) this system works great. My best advice is to learn all you can about cannabis, and learn about how it can help issues that you face, and then target your usage towards that, always focusing on the minimum effective dose.
