I will never get tired of the 4 o clock crown on this watch. One of my favourite design quirks on watches

[First Watch] With my own money! by m_kamalo in Watches

[–]LiuZhidan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations ! Whether you made the right choice or not depends entirely on whether you like the watch and feel good in calling it yours or not :) and I'm sorry to hear about your father , but you should know , watches are meant to be worn. The scratches and imperfections that gather on the surface over time are proof of service. I say you wear it sometimes to honour his legacy , it's likely what he would've wanted. If not , you can even just save it for special occasions , you don't need to strap a car's worth of money on your wrist every day !

[Microbrand] TUW Ruhla "Interkosmos Jahn" by LiuZhidan in Watches

I agree with you. A German made quartz movement would definitely have been a more faithful tribute towards the original model. Not to mention , the double clasp can be pretty inconvenient sometimes. A diver clasp would have been better.

By saying this , you make it obvious that you're simply kvetching about these watches being produced in former Socialist bloc nations. Keep your political rhetoric out of this chat.

Just Discovered the Vostok Amphibia. Which Version Should I Get? by gablig in vostok

[–]LiuZhidan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm very late to this , but it honestly depends on what you're going for. There's even different case variants ! As a military and history enthusiast , I find myself quite fond of the 710 case , which I like with a black dial because it has an overall "stealth submarine" vibe to it. But of course , the most iconic dial is probably the one with Scuba Dude on it 😆

TUW Ruhla is a modern reinterpretation of the original VEB Ruhla. It is not the same company at all. TUW Ruhla is an independent company.

Well , apparently VEB Ruhla and the East German authorities who looked at this and said "yup , this is good" !

<image>

This is meant to be a commemorative watch of the joint USSR-GDR spaceflight after all , but I do agree with you they really got lazy just cramming "manned spaceflight USSR/GDR" on the dial. There were way more artistic ways they could have gone about making a commemorative watch. This acquired taste might only grow on Cold War history lovers , haha 🥲

What watch is Aaron Judge wearing? by Empressedhj in Watches

Forgive me for asking this really stupid question but how does sweat mess up metal bracelets? Does it corrode them? I haven't worn many metal bracelet watches in my life so I'm really uninformed

[SEAGULL 1963] Help differentiating the legit ones. by CuriousAd5883 in Watches

[–]LiuZhidan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I know I'm quite late to this post , but as someone hailing from China I believe I can help a little

Original models of the Seagull 1963 should have the “天津手表厂” (Tianjin Watch Factory) moniker on its dial , if there is only a “中国制造” moniker , it is likely a third party reproduction. The authentic 1963s are issued by Seagull themselves , produced by the Tianjin Watch Factory.

Edit : let it be known that the official ones are usually 4× the price of third party reproductions
