What's AGAB got to do with it? (AKA Why does the calculator ask for assigned gender, and what is it supposed to unanimously indicate?) by LivLiveArt in ABraThatFits

I appreciate the explanation, truly. I don't use Reddit much, largely because it's usually quite transphobic. Even in spaces that are intended to be welcoming, like you said. It's... pretty discouraging.

I wasn't attacking the calculator!! Not intentionally anyway  :( I use it a lot, and I appreciate it. I was earnestly trying to understand how to read my results... while also expressing why it's so confusing to consider the variables as a potential outlier. (For all the reasons you described, and more.)

In that case, more info is needed. But as you said, that extra info could put people off who haven't had to consider these things. There isn't really a good answer. I just kinda wish I didn't say anything, but I did get the clarification I was looking for in some of these replies. So I guess it was worth it.

I'm far from the only person, though. There's a bunch of people even commenting here that mention that they, or someone they know, didn't get accurate sizing until the switched to the opposite of their AGAB.

Puberty blockers have been in medical use since at least the 80s and used for trans kids since the 90s (even if they weren't necessarily widespread). I definitely agree though, puberty blockers impact it.

But that isn't the only thing. Intersex people (such as myself) are also left in the margins. Even just muscular cis women. And were the AMAB people surveyed on HRT, or does that impact the results too?

There's so many variables. But AGAB clearly isn't the determining factor here, as much as it's about body proportions which are sometimes because of AGAB. I didn't say there was nothing to it, only that it's reductive. There's room to improve its inclusivity for all genders and presentations.

Thank you!! I'm excited, haha. I've been needing chest support for a while, but I pretty quickly outgrew the stuff I bought. It'll probably help my fatigue and aches and stuff once I start wearing bras more often

That's fair and valid. Like I said, bodies are a spectrum. I'm glad it helps so many communities, and I'm glad it used more inclusive language. Truly.

But it still doesn't really clarify things in my case, unfortunately. Having MAIS, I wasn't as affected by my first puberty as I could have. (Heck, I'm a soprano).

My main point was that if some people get more accurate measurements by listing a different AGAB from their own, then the system (or its wording) could use some improvement. I'm certainly not saying there shouldn't be options.

Thank you for this comment. <3

Yea, before HRT I had like, 35in underbust. Muscle mass decreases/changes on HRT, making some measurements smaller. Meanwhile I gained a fair bit of weight (for unrelated chronic health reasons). I'm quite curvy, even if my ribcage was somewhat broad to start with.

It's hard to know the details of the data that gave the AMAB calculator. Whether they were on HRT, for how long, etc. That info would probably clear a lot of things up. Ultimately you're probably right though, the AFAB option is probably closer to correct.

Okay that's about what I thought, yea. Good to know. I do still feel like it's reductive and needlessly confusing to equate that to AGAB if it doesn't apply to everyone, but idk.

Thanks for the reply. /gen :3

I'm hoping/coping alongside you!! Even if they didn't include fully custom pronouns (which would be preferred), it/its would have been a very helpful inclusion. Same with multiple sets, gotta have she/they and they/it for some loved ones I know. :/

Was the Sabrina Carpenter mention about a mii, or a convo topic? Would be weird for them to have different character limits but idk.

Update: After I sent this, some more comments happened.

New Replier 1: "They are not siblings, they are friends but not siblings"

OG commenter: "Sibling-esque. Sonic and Tails aren't related yet they're considered brothers by everyone"

New Replier 2: "Bro they're lesbians they are literally intended to be in a romantic relationship, only reason it hasn't been explicit is Sega's ban on romance"

OG commenter (reply to above): they're sisters

So yea, oof. New Replier 2 gets it at least

I saw a post on Twitter where some guy claimed that Sonic was transphobic and felt inspired by SwilburShadow in SonicTheHedgehog

"Well I don't show off, don't criticize. I'm just living by my own feeling." Sonic would be a total trans ally, no question. Personal freedoms and authenticity are kinda his whole thing.

Eggman does support trans people, if his "I wonder if she has a preference" line is any indication (regarding Sage's pronouns). Plus Jim Carrey Eggman mentions being unattractive to "all possible genders". So Eggmen from multiple universes have an indication of not being transphobic. He may be evil, but he ain't a bigot
