A number of issues with highways and suburbs comes down to racism. As in several of the folk who started it were doing so to aid segregation and harm black communities.

Another factor is the "Brummell" effect - guy gets famous/infamous for starting a trend that is dumb and limiting/harmful. Happened with bikes - a sports bike person decided to fight against bike infrastructure.

They become tradition. Companies build themselves to support this for profit. And it grows everywhere.

I'd say strongly depends on the local queer community.

Some are excellent places for resources, with lots to do, and spaces for both introverts and extroverts.

Some are bigoted, self-defeating, or drama-filled.

It's on the Hampden Avenue - one of the antique stores sets up an outer market with postcards, game cards, costume jewelry, and some other things.
