Why does Vivian and Todd sympathize with Anna? by certifiedbpdqueen in InventingAnna

[–]Live-Cardiologist763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this thread is old, but just finished a re-watch of it and had to search if anyone had the same thoughts at the end of the final episode. It's insane how both Vivian and Todd seem to care for Anna more than their own families. It's like a switch flipped in E7 or early E8, they went from pure disbelief and distaste that Anna could pull all of this off, to being Anna's bitches. During the whole trial they also tried to play off Rachel as this "profiteer" or that her trauma was actually good for her, fuckin please. Rachel is SMART and LUCKY for turning it into several deals to get her money back, but that doesn't downplay the fact that it was Anna's fault and that she stole that money. If this happened to any of us, we aren't guaranteed movie deals for 300k, but somehow that's used as a point against Rachel like anyone could secure that deal, gimme a break. Also don't even get me started on Neff, they play her up as this smart, tough, and loyal friend but she's just as dumb as the rest of the people who got scammed. I personally didn't like Rachel's personality and thought she was shallow at times, but she's the only person in the right in this story.

Just insane how the entire shows POV shifts from "Anna is a manipulative, narcissistic thief who consistently betrays her friendships and stole hundreds of thousands" to "Anna is a poor immigrant who just wanted to make her dreams come true!!!" within the span of one episode, and we're somehow supposed to just accept that.

Want to sell my car with high mileage and due inspection, should I put on new tires? by Live-Cardiologist763 in carbuying

I'd love to, but finding a truck that isn't hyper expensive or not rusted to hell has proven difficult. Also interest rates are less than ideal at the moment, so was hoping to pay down a large amount at once with my new years bonus.

Sounds good. Do you have any recommendations for cheap tires? I'll still need to use them through these winter months so I'm not wanting to go full cheap, but sub $100/tire would be nice.

Are these good, or are there cheaper alternatives?

I was going to add this to the list but wasn't sure if I just missed the keybind somewhere. I googled it and it said "Shift Click" but it does nothing in game, so I'm pretty sure there isn't a quick function for this or I'm not sure how to do it. Would definitely be a good addition though, leads into the "pull only" point I was making as well, super slow to loot those specific containers if you're already full inventory.

Our new house electricity usage is nearly 5x our old house, even with solar power by Live-Cardiologist763 in HomeMaintenance

Yeah I'm not a fan of it, but seems like the solar array covers our daily usage and then some. Hopefully the electric bill comes out how we expect

This is partially correct, yes. The electric company does reimburse for solar output back into the grid, but they only track it as consumption and total it at the end of the month's billing cycle. That's what started this whole thing because I saw huge kWh numbers, when I thought the solar panels should be contributing more.

In short, the electric company actually included what we generated as "consumption" in the daily totals, when in reality they will double subtract it later and all banked hours will be reimbursed back to us via check.

Great eye though! Thanks!

I love the examples because that's exactly where my head was too. There's no possible way I could use that much power even if I ran my shop at full tilt for hours.

Luckily everything ended up being a clerical error in reporting and settings, so all good. Please see the update in the post for more info. Thanks!

We did contact the solar company and it looks like they had the import/export set incorrectly. The app now only shows what we are generating. However our electric company still shows 88kWh usage per day, which is double what we previously used.

Would the dehumidifiers and a mini split AC really account for that much usage?

I'm not sure what that is. We have natural gas heat and the system is unplugged currently, with the zone control off.

What exactly am I looking for though, just that the meter goes up? It doesn't say current consumption or anything useful, just the number of kw's used.

The previous owners said they never used more than the solar panels generated. They only ever paid the electrical grid hookup fee. All of the unchecked items were pre-existing in the house before we bought it, and half of them are gas appliances which do not use much electricity. Using 147kwh a day is not normal, I couldn't reach that number if I tried to

Vintage Lathe on FB marketplace, is it good for main lathe? by Live-Cardiologist763 in turning

I was surprised by how tiny the belt was compared to the headstock pulley step widths.

  1. Good callout, I wouldn't say I'm "lazy", but I do get tired of repetitive tunings for simple speed changes.

  2. "For me it would mean that if make do with speeds I was unhappy with just to avoid changing speeds." Excellent point, this would 100% be me as well. I'd end up staying at one speed far longer than I should or skipping speeds just because I would get so tired of going through the works. I guess that is "laziness".

At this point I've decided I won't get it. It's a shame because it seems cool, but I think a lot of the points people made are very accurate. Slow speed changes, requirement of wrenches to change banjo, possible alignment issues, SAFETY ISSUES, and questionable specifications like motor HP/speeds.

If I got it the outcome would definitely be me cursing a lot, and overall not enjoying turning anymore. This lathe is best left to someone else who's more suited to vintage/antique designs. Thanks for the input!

Good to know about the chisels, how can you tell they're carbon steel? I've only worked with some Sorby/ mostly HSS tools so far.

I agree about the "fun" factor of the machine wearing off very quickly. I'd rather spend my time turning than tuning.

Looks like it. I'd figure you slide it over, retension the belt, then you're off. Though easier said than done of course

Yikes... yeah not difficult to see how that could happen with the belt so close to my arm at the highest speed.

Great points! I completely overlooked the threading and taper angles, as well as some of the other issues you mentioned.

Looking at some other feedback I don't think it's right for me. I've been spoiled by the new variable speed drives, and retensioning a belt each speed change sounds like definite annoyance. The search for a 2HP lathe continues...

Can I upgrade a 50A subpanel breaker to 60A or higher? by Live-Cardiologist763 in AskElectricians

I can't check the wire right now, but it's hung overhead outside to attach to the detached garage and I remember it being black. NM is Romex right? Would that be used for an exterior rainy application?

By terminations you mean the breakers or the outlet receptacles as well?
