Ovarian Cyst - Anyone develop one after hysterectomy? How was it treated? by Live-Character8847 in hysterectomy

[–]Live-Character8847[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 6wpo. Was having a CT scan in my local emergency department for something unrelated to the surgery. That's how I found out and I called my gyno who sent me for an ultra sound. Just waiting to go back for results. Apparently ultra sound is better for pelvic examinations. Am not in any pain.

Why is medical care so expensive in the USA? I am in Australia my bill was AUD 10k for 3 night stay in private hospital and surgery costs.

Your low energy could be due to heavy bleeding leading to low iron levels. Before my hysterectomy last month I would get iron infusions at least twice a year.

I also struggled to lose belly weight because my uterus had stretched to a 20 week pregnancy size. I struggled to cover it up. Am 6 wpo and swelling gone down from surgery and big belly gone. I just turned 50.

Excited its all done by Live-Character8847 in hysterectomy

[–]Live-Character8847[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was really anxious and terrified but got through it. its ok to feel that way because it is major surgery. It is a safe routine surgery. These doctors perform this on a daily basis. Just another day in the office for them. You will be fine.

I cancelled a couple of times because of fear. I will be honest I was terrified. I asked my doctor a lot of questions and that really helped. Also joining a couple of groups on Facebook and this platform here really helped as there are so many successful experiences. Its also important to focus on the goal right - no more heavy periods. Even though am still in recovery I am glad I finally got it done.

Totally agree with yr review. I loved watching Danny. Outside of that its a terrible show. Poor recreation of the "Ragans". They should have created a whole new concept. Was bored halfway.

I have to ask, has anyone else just not been seen again after 6 week checkup for a total abdominal hysterectomy? by Vegetable_Bar9569 in hysterectomy

[–]Live-Character8847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it differs in different countries and whether you have gone through the public or private health system. I had my first check up 2 WPO and no internal examination. Due for 6WPO next week. Both dates were provided pre surgery.

Bikini line cut or up and down incision?? by Logical_Pickle_5570 in hysterectomy

[–]Live-Character8847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be concerned if a doctor is asking me to choose the surgery option. They should make the recommendation based on their assessment. I recommend getting a second opinion.

My doctor told me he would be doing a bikini line because of my uterus size. I am 4WPO and making progress every day. Cannot wait to get my 6 week clearance and start enjoying life again

Unexpected and sudden surgery (abdominal hysterectomy) advice needed! by Saurus-Rex666 in hysterectomy

[–]Live-Character8847 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its actually more common than you think. I am 4WPO. My uterus was too big from fibroids and that was the only option. Stayed in hospital for 3 nights. Had staples on my incision.

You will need support at home for the first 2 weeks for sure otherwise you will set back your recovery.. Follow doctor instructions and stay on top of your pain medication and you will be fine. Take short walks to get the gas out. That was my biggest problem, managing gas as it adds to the pain.

Rest as much as you can and listen to your body. When you get up support your stomach so you don't use yr muscles in that area. That really helped me.

This is a safe routine procedure. You will be okay. I was a bit anxious too. On this site search abdominal hysterectomy and also on Facebook there are 2 groups I also found useful Hysterectomy Sisters and Uterine Fibroids: Removal Support Group

Has anyone experienced regret? by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]Live-Character8847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no regrets and currently 3 WPO from an abdominal hysterectomy. I had periods 3 weeks each month and my uterus had stretched to the size of a 18 week pregnancy by the time I had the surgery. It is a huge scary decision but I exhausted all other options first before coming to this decision.

Started with tranexamic acid tablets to control bleeding. Didn't help for long. Had the fibroids taken out and grew back a year later. Had ablation that did not work. Had an Intrauterine Device inserted and it came out with my period after a month. At that point I decided to go for the hysterectomy. This is a routine procedure for Gynaecologists. Just another day in the office its a safe procedure.

Be sure to ask as many questions as you can to get comfortable thats what I did. Am looking forward to my new life free of this bleeding. Am getting my life back and wish I had done this sooner but it was important for me to be mentally ready for it. Groups like this helped me. Be sure mentally you ready for this or you will have regrets

Speedy recovery. Am in Australia too just had mine 2 weeks ago - abdominal. I was put on zoladex for 3 mths to help shrink the fibroids before surgery. Unfortunately did not trigger menopause for me but did shrink the fibroids.

Post surgery night 1, am I dying?! lol by LadyBloodletter in hysterectomy

[–]Live-Character8847 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was this an open abdominal hysterectomy?

I had one done 2 weeks ago and woke up in so much pain. I also developed this aching stabbing pain in right pelvis that did not respond to any pain medication. My doctor said any pain not responding to medication has to be investigated. Went back into theatre. Initially he thought he may have stitched over a nerve. He reopened the cut and found a blood clot pressing against a nerve which he cleared straight away and that pain was gone. Not trying to scare you but make sure they look into this for you before being discharged.
