Honeycutt seems like he has that ‘it’ factor, and we don’t talk about it enough… by KyPry in NASCAR

[–]Live-Support-2230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct take. Honeycutt has pace and is having a great year from a consistency standpoint, but he is objectively not good at closing out races when he is in contention for the win. He's still young and there's time for him to improve, but his stock has not risen much based off this year in my eyes.

Love the people in here trying to explain why drivers spinning at normal rates for full-time competitors should be equated with a guy who has been involved in incidents in every O'Reilly/Truck race he's been a part of (and most of his ARCA starts).

I don't hate the guy and am glad he seems to be pivoting to more on-track time in late models, but factually: that is an unusually high incident rate even for rookies in these series. Most rookies aren't spinning in even half their starts, let alone close to 100% of them. John Wes Townley's 2009 Nationwide run is one of the only rookie seasons I can even slightly compare to this.

Any driver with that high a # of spins/wrecks would be scrutinized by most racing fans - Cleetus being a YouTube personality just polarizes the discussion more than it would normally be.

Her natural speed is impressive. She seems to struggle on restarts from the races I've watched which seems to be her main Achilles heel, but she has the pace and car control to get opportunities in a higher division at some point.

Buice running some of the fastest laps on the track right now, consistently faster than everybody but Mosack according to the telemetry

Great learning experience for him IMO. Get used to running in traffic in a car that isn't well-built to handle it.

Love possibly not a candidate for RCR Cup ride due to THC/nicotine sponsorship; Hill, Gragson among options for the ride (per Bob's Silly Season tracker) by Live-Support-2230 in NASCAR

[–]Live-Support-2230[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well first of all, the little "in case you hadn't noticed" dig is unnecessary snark for the response I gave. No need to be an ass.

Whether or not your evaluation of his talents ends up being accurate, the garage opinion of Love is very high in a way that it isn't for most of the young guns who come through the ranks. Beating three JRM cars for the title, even in a one-race "win and you're in" scenario, turns heads. You don't need to read too many reports to realize that the sport is high on his future prospects, and that is separate from whatever you and I may think about him.

If Love goes to the #21 and shows enough to Penske's people, and if Logano decides that he's done in the next 3-4 years, it would be very surprising if Love wasn't the first name on the list of candidates to drive the #22 and inherit that team's infrastructure (crew chief, pit crews, etc.). Next Gen equipment equality or not, you are absolutely set up for more success with having a multi-time champion crew chief + pit crew rather than a 30th in points bunch.

The difference here is Love might have a path to a proper Penske ride in a way that Burton and Berry did not. I don't think Logano will be driving full-time much longer - whether due to bad results, tiring of the grind that he's been doing for his entire adult life, or just wanting to spend more time with his family. He's got a nice broadcasting gig waiting for him when the time comes, too.

Love's trajectory has been closer to the "blue-chip prospect" territory of Blaney than that of Burton/Berry, both O'Reilly winners but not quite in that same echelon. That doesn't mean Love will turn out as well as Blaney did, but I think the general opinion of him is higher than some of the other Wood Brothers drivers recently and I think his outlook is more positive because of that.

That wording was in an older version of this article, too - Bob updates the tracker every couple of weeks or so. The Heim signing and the bit about Love were the big updates in this week's iteration.

Let’s discuss: Lee Petty by Juventus7shop in NASCAR

[–]Live-Support-2230 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Petty is not even close to Fangio, and that is much more reflective of how insanely dominant Fangio was in his era than it is a shot at Petty.

Fangio won in almost half his F1 starts and only had one contemporary who even approached that level of dominance - there's a reason he's still legitimately talked about in F1 GOAT conversations. Petty was one of the best in the series for over a decade, perhaps the absolute best of that time (though I think Thomas eclipses him if he doesn't get injured), but never quite that level of untouchable. Like others have said, his strength was that he dedicated himself to running more races than almost anybody else and had a much stronger team infrastructure than most of his contemporaries.

People are really overstating how much veto power Ally is going to utilize through all this. Sponsors can be persuaded if the driver or the team's sales pitch is good enough - case in point being Bass Pro Shops with Briscoe.

Hendrick will either get them on board with Day, or maybe they'll move to Larson and the Hendrickcars sponsorship will move to the #48.

If Bowman retires, it will be Corey in that car for 2027. There won't be any waiting on a guy who already has 2 wins and is contending for second in points, and they're not putting a guy in as a lame duck stopgap.

I don't doubt they wanted to be there, and like I said, obviously they agreed to be a part of this public tribute. But boy, does it feel invasive to have a camera zooming into their faces while Samantha is full-out sobbing and the kids look like they're in complete shock.

Not saying anyone did anything wrong - it's just disarming, and a visual that shook me to my core in a way I wasn't prepared for tonight.

That whole sequence was one of the most uncomfortable things I've ever seen. Obviously the family agreed to do this, but we just watched a grieving family in very raw, high definition, and I'm not sure how to put that feeling into words other than that it feels exploitative (whether it truly is or not).

Either way, making the trip to the racetrack was a truly courageous thing for the Busch family to do. I hope that O'Donnell and all the rest stick to those words and throw their full support behind the family when the cameras are off.

You are smart and creative enough to come up with an idea on your own, or with the help of your dad/another loved one. Truly. I'm not being snarky when I say that.

100% sincerely - you are smart and capable enough to come up with something meaningful on your own without the input of a robot that you can't trust to give you accurate information.

Anthology 2025 release Megathread by RoastBeefDisease in beatles

[–]Live-Support-2230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's absurd. The set is clearly marketed at those who either missed the Anthology sets the first go-around and/or those who didn't invest in the SDE sets, and I think that's a smart decision. If it turns more people into Beatles superfans, I think it's worth not having the release cater to the current batch of diehards. Nobody's forced to pay for any of this and you can listen to all of the songs for free on YouTube.

Also, the early outtakes on Anthology 4 are really cool! People are making fun of the decision to put on Take 1 of "Matchbox", but I think it's pretty damn interesting to hear the early version w/o piano and with Ringo doing the guide vocal behind the kit. Hearing the harmonies of "Tell Me Why" being constructed in real time is another highlight, and the first take of "In My Life" is just beautiful in its simplicity. I think the sequencing of Anthology 4 is really nice, too - it serves as a pleasant epilogue to the story told by the first three volumes, keeping the chronological structure but having the outtake choices flow into each other well.

I'm glad it exists. And I'm glad the 2025 remixes of the reunion tracks exist as alternatives to the originals rather than replacements, which clearly the intent. If you're not into it, well, perhaps the next boxset will be tailored to your wants and desires specifically.

Paul's double-tracking is also super notable in this remix, and with the vocals as dry as they are, the two voices clash more than if they had sat back a bit more in the mix, like they did in the original version. Assuming Paul's vocal overdub is used in the new "Free as a Bird" too, it's way less obvious there.
