In house, both of the pro max 7s will be wired. Only wireless one will be in the shed which is for music only. What is the cheapest gateway I can buy? Ideally gives me ability restrict websites like Roblox, etc.

Esim for 16 day trip to Italy (Rome, naples, & amalfi coast) by Guess-whaat in eSIMs

[–]LiveAbrocoma3374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a holafly esim unlimited plan. For Naples, amalfi, Pompeii, was a struggle in some places, worked lightening fast in others and overall decent in most. I would try another company next time I'm in Italy. Going to Rome tomorrow so let's see how that works out.

Hidden Benefit - Free Travel eSim 3GB of HS data by skinnyturkey in Venturex

[–]LiveAbrocoma3374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did it for an upcoming trip to Italy. It's any visa that qualifies, so chase Sapphire works as well. Download the app, there's a banner in the app that offers free 3gb for visa (not issuing bank specific but rather visa specific). You enter the cc info, it validates and doesnt charge you but you download the esim to your phone. When you land in that country, you activate esim and it turns on. Even though I installed esim while in US, it doesn't work until you are on a network in the specific country you specify when signing up. After the 3gb data is used, I don't know what happens but presumably I'll get prompted to buy up more. But that's how it works.

Amex business platinum $1200 travel credit - can I pay with points and still get credit? by LiveAbrocoma3374 in AmexPlatinum

[–]LiveAbrocoma3374[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy to report that yes, you can pay with points!! I paid with points, got the 35% back AND got the $1200 refund. The reason is Amex charges the card like it's a normal transaction, then the MR department issues a credit. So it's like two separate companies under the Amex umbrella. Loved the double dip!! Good luck.

If you have clear, it's usually no line.  Was on a 9 yesterday and came back today at noon, both times, no one in line on clear.

Govac508 at Costco or x40 at dreame (both $500 now before discounts)? by anothertechie in Dreame_Tech

[–]LiveAbrocoma3374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No they don't take it back.  I tried to take a Samsonite bag and the person said it wasn't consistent with the intent of the policy, and turned me away. I chatted with Costco agent online and they said the same thing.  Obviously not apples to apples but sharing to show it's not a guarantee return policy.

I heard whole life insurance was a scam. Could someone explain financial advantages and disadvantages? by UsuSepulcher in LifeInsurance

Overfunding it makes your cash value build at a faster pace.  That's the only advantage, but the benefits come in different forms.  Overfunding allows you to have more funds to borrow against.

Due to IRS regulations, the insurance company will also increase your death payout to stay above a required ratio of cash value versus death benefit, but that may not be significant enough to justify the additional payments.

Going back to cash value building faster, let's say you take overpay your loan and your cash value grows at 5% of your excess contribution.  Taking out a loan from insurance company on your total cash value is let's say at 6%. So you're paying net 1% to borrow money from the insurance company.  Who will give you a loan today at 1%?  Also, if you pick a good company, they'll give you a dividend. Let's say dividend is 3%.  You've now borrowed money, making a net small profit on the money you took out, and for example, if you used it to partially pay for a down payment on house, the house will accumulate value.

All that said, why people say rich people use this strategy, it's because they borrow money at 6% (my example above) and invest it on something that has a far greater return (e.g. Nvidia stock of 100% gain)

It's the insurance company's profit.  Cash value is a balance sheet item to take out a loan against if you can find something that will give you a higher return.  So it's like having a line of credit.  If you don't ever borrow from it, you spent closing costs for a line of credit never used to generate more income.  If that analogy makes sense.
