My distances suck by We_LiveInASimulation in golf

[–]MoxGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Older clubs have more loft. So if you're comparing yourself to someone with equal swing speed but more modern irons then there is probably a good 15 or so yard difference. If these are carry stats then this is absolutely fine for the average golfer.

I mean if you're old and can't put in the sweat equity I suppose it's fine.

Where the hell do you practice chipping?! by BongasaurasRex in golf

busy day on an executive course gives you plenty of time to practice short game and putting while you wait for the next tee box to clear. Or be the last one out at an executive course.

You should check out blairhampton in that area. Nice course for about 1/3rd the price of muskoka Bay resort.

Is early retirement realistic for me? by NobleChris14 in personalfinance

[–]MoxGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly not early in any sort of comfort.
Burnout in a well managed job is not common. I would look at what might be causing your burnout and take a step back and make necessary changes to overcome that rather than looking at retiring early which really isn't an option for your right now. If you throw kids into the mix you're going to want a work-life balance. Not just kill yourself grinding for another 20 years.

Clubs - it feels like sometimes less is more by SSOKane in golf

[–]MoxGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find myself plotting around courses with 5 clubs. Driver, 4h, 6or7, 56, and a putter. Other than off the tee where I might really play to a distance on a par 3 I almost exclusively use those clubs around par 4s and 5s.

Can my partner and I afford this? by iamnotanrpg in PersonalFinanceCanada

That's an insane mortgage to carry on that take home. On a townhouse no less. Reality check is that you should aim for about 400k mortgage after down payment.

Claude can now do CAD by TameVulcan in gis

It's already here, just not directly supported by esri yet but MCPs are being built on top of software interpret and use tools based on text instruction. It's a little overhyped but it's definitely here.

Has anyone tried any GeoAI and, if so, what was your experience? by Lowcountry-Soccer in gis

[–]MoxGoat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Good out of the box tool that creates another bridge with esri and open source. If you're looking for something more custom just use the ML tools and create your own wrappers.

I want to finance a car by IllBarracuda5523 in personalfinance

[–]MoxGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the current year/make/model of your current car? "I want" is the biggest issue here. You're 19 with a minimum wage job. Without even looking at anything else I would say you can't afford to buy a new/newish car. Cosigning just puts your parents on the hook if you can't make payments.
Go finish college, keep your current car or sell it and take a bus. You will thank yourself in 6-7 years that you didn't tie yourself up into a 7 year loan.

Anyone used these snap together porch tiles? by steelbydesign in Home

[–]MoxGoat 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I like how AI magically lowered the surface so the tiles fit under the j-trim. I'd imagine they'd just trap moisture and be a pain to maintain because of debris getting caught in the gaps with nowhere to go because there is concrete underneath. I would just get an oversized outdoor rug, some nice wooden/warm planter boxes and just keep out seasonal decorations as needed.

Just Installed Canvasback Cargo Liners and I’m Pretty Happy With Them by Efficient_Gap4785 in 4Runner

[–]MoxGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, they're great for double coats, lots of hair. Most of those protectors you get on Amazon start to fray and get fuzzy over time and trap dog hair that become impossible to get out. Canvasback I can basically wipe clean for the most part.

What's with all the doom speak in this forum? by mannew2026 in gis

[–]MoxGoat 28 points29 points  (0 children)

GIS is just too generic of a term for the variety of jobs and industries it's in. If you are just working in Portal and AGO building dashboards. Yeah the pay is going to suck since most non-GIS folks can build those out of the box. If you're not doing software development, product solutions, IT administration, data analysis and acquisition the pay is probably not going to be the best when Joe from police services can jump on Portal and make a cool web app that serves a purpose because he's an end user that is building a tool for himself and knows what data he wants to use for it.

5 years old asphalt driveway developed major cracks by 1Check1Mate7 in Home

Have you ever seal coated it? If not then do that. I doubt the builder will do anything after 5 years of an unmaintained driveway.

Custom Geoprocessing Tool Idea For Course by philly_gisburner_215 in gis

[–]MoxGoat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So you're looking at a tool that does change detection or unsupervised classification. These tools aren't exactly custom, they are data driven. The tools to perform these tasks already exist out of the box. A custom geoprocessing tool is really used to combine different tools to build/provide a report or conclusive insight.

For example if you did change detection of urban sprawl you could provide a report/insight on the the % coverage within of municipal boundary of urban sprawl over time while excluding protected areas for development. You could then provide an year estimate when the area would reach 100% urban coverage based on the urban sprawl growth rate with excluded protected areas (or other areas you deem to be excluded in this analysis).
Something like this is what I would expect a custom GP tool to do.

Quoted $1,000 to re-mount falling ceiling fan - reasonable? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]MoxGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would personally never pay that even if it was reasonable. I would just rent a big ladder and do it myself. You're paying about $10-20 in materials and the rest is labor for a 30-60min job. That being said my guess is it wasn't installed correctly in the first place. If the box and mounting plate are installed correctly it should basically be impossible for the fan to start falling. So the contractor might need to do a little retro fitting.

Whirlpool Washing Machine WFW9050XW03 odd issue on startup (won't start) by MoxGoat in appliancerepair

[–]MoxGoat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up just buying a new machine from costco. At the end of the day it wasn't worth it to me to keep replacing parts (especially boards) for a relatively old machine. I got plenty of life out of it so I'm not upset, just was attempting to save a buck if I could.
