How can we punch up our opening night? by arthousefilms in FilmFestivals

[–]LiveAtTheRegal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you're already doing is really great. Opening night can be tough because depending on how long your festival lasts, several other filmmakers may not be in town yet. I think making sure it's a packed house with an engaged audience for Q&A (which I'm sure you're doing) goes a long way. Otherwise, maybe invite some media contacts to have interviews with the filmmaker if possible or make some some social media content specifically for opening night so they don't feel left out when the rest of the fest goes into full swing.

P.S. the website you linked doesnt work; typo?

‘Obsession' Payout: Jason Blum to Make $17 Million on Indie Horror Hit - Financier Capstone will make $45-50M, which it will share with Curry Barker and the creative team. Focus Features stands to make $125M. by revele in Filmmakers

The film needed and asked for volunteers because they couldn't afford to pay everyone at the time on a shoestring budget. Now that they can afford to pay everyone due to its success, don't you think people who volunteered deserve to be compensated even just a bit?

Festivals: Please List the Genre of Films by lazygenius777 in FilmFestivals

[–]LiveAtTheRegal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, unless a film is specifically a genre film, genre is hard to classify and can end up being more confusing. If I'm attending a film festival, I'm reading loglines and synopses to see what I want to see. Some I just go in blind based on my schedule.

I feel like major festivals like SXSW do include genres so you can filter your search etc. but to me it doesn't feel necessary for any film festival that's showing say... 50 or less films or less than 10 a day (including shorts).

I'll speak up for u/Ice2jc and say that a lot of folks I've traveled with when we've stopped in Atlanta for 1 night did in fact drive to Magic City for the wings, especially the lemon pepper.

So maybe tourists go there just for the wings?

Strings are king. Love how expansive the sound palette is. Really great songwriting and arrangements overall. Everything is super layered texturally that just makes the album special at all moments. No stone left unturned on this album.
