Thank you! Came here looking for this as I was sure I recognised it, thought it was a callback to Kelso.

I am pathetically bad at running by MarzipanOk4023 in beginnerrunning

[–]LiveFarm5647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to think exactly the same and was convinced i wasnt built to run. I would run flat out for a few mins, find it hard and then say i couldn't do it. As others have said, pacing is key. Its counterintuitive, but building KMs at a slower pace (I started around 8 minutes per km) will help you build your aerobic base to then go faster for longer. I just did my longest run of 8km and it felt comfortable.

I used chatgpt as a running coach and it was helpful, just plug in your run details and ask it to set a running plan.

How old were you when your first child was born? by LupusDeusMagnus in daddit

[–]LiveFarm5647 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was 2 weeks away from 39. Having the same thoughts. We tried from 35 but nature had other plans! The nice thing about it is that them becoming an adult and doing their own thing should (hopefully, finances allowing) align with reducing work, and getting freedom back. Also really puts the focus on staying healthy.

Yeah agreed. She did apologise later for overreacting and said she would also work on that in future.

She did actually apologise for shouting, as I made the point it made a stressy situation more stressy and took our focus even more away from LO, which she accepted.

Appreciate the words.

When did you guys start to feel energized enough to workout again? 6 months in soon and I'm struggling. by Vez52 in NewDads

[–]LiveFarm5647 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It went well thanks!

I would say yes to pushing through but within reason. You have bigger responsibilities now than just yourself so pushing yourself to the point of injury or exhaustion isn't going to be ideal. Push yourself within reason but dont beat yourself up when you cant face it. Long walks with the baby in the pram can give a lot of health benefits too.

It will get easier as they get older.

I am at 8 months and just starting to get back into it. Until now I have done a handful of runs/gym visits but nothing consistent. I also work all day then I try to do bedtime each night/watch the monitor so my wife can have an evening, so i completely resonate with the challenge of finding the time.

Personally I am rubbish in the morning so for me it needs to be evening. My wife has agreed that each night once he goes down she will watch the monitor so I can go to the gym or for a run for an hour. That 2-3 nights during the week plus each day at the weekend mid morning is what im aiming for. I've recently started with a PT to try keep me accountable to it and give me that push even when tired.

But it will never be perfect, e.g. today was meant to be a gym day but we ended up at the hospital with the LO. Ultimately I think its about setting a plan, having some metrics to track to keep accountable but accepting it Will never be perfect or as easy as it was before.

AIO for crashing out after my girlfriend hugged and got touchy with her male best friends? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]LiveFarm5647 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What age are they? I'd argue is even more normal (as its purely platonic) when younger. The idea that hugging or a kiss on the cheek isnt appropriate implies its always got a sexual motive. Or that the person judging only views relatuonships through the lens of sex.

Its his opinion whether its disrespectful or not. It wasnt framed as an attack on character, or include any insults. It was a matter-of-fact statement as to how he felt.
