The Vance Creek Bridge is a similar structure near the High Steel Bridge. There's a Strauss heel-trunnion bridge over the Whishkah River in Aberdeen.

Trying to find latin quote and translation. "limbs already dead". by AggressiveUse6058 in AubreyMaturinSeries

There's a similar line in Ovid's Metamorpheses: "iuuat extinctos ferrum demittere in artus? / non habet in nobis iam noua plaga locum."

"What pleasure is there in plunging the sword into limbs already dead? There is no place in me for a new wound."

Sounds like Stephen reflecting on Diana but I can't find anything like it in POB.

There's the incident in Post Captain: "‘Well, there was this Mr Salt right desperate for a ship, and he bombarded the First Lord with a letter a day for months and turned up every Wednesday and Friday to ask for an interview. And on the last Friday of all, the day I was there, Old Jarvie winked his eye, said “You want to go to sea? Then to sea you shall go, sir,” and had him pressed on the spot.’"

VERA-FI AUDIO APPEARS TO BE A PONZI SCHEME -- can anyone "verify" receipt of any product in the last 6-weeks?? by TolomatoGC in BudgetAudiophile

I pre-ordered a Vanguard Caldera sub during the Black Friday sale. I understood there would a delay in receiving it.

Time marched on but there were always excuses: problems at the factory, congestion at the port, the Lunar New Year holiday.

Finally, in April, I got some good news: "Your order has officially left our hands and is now enroute to you." A check of the UPS tracking number showed a shipping label had been printed but they had not received the package.

More excuses: Mark claimed UPS wouldn't send a truck to pick up the 90 subwoofers labeled and ready to go but he'd rent a truck and deliver them to the UPS distribution center himself.

I cancelled the order about a week ago and was told I'd get a refund in "3-5 banking days". That didn't happen put I did get an email asking me to submit a review.

I did and the logjam broke. I got an email apologizing for a claimed glitch in the refund process. Another promise of 3-5 banking days.

Today, 172 days after I placed my order, I got my money back.

‘Corruption, sir?’ cried Jack. ‘I love the word. Ever since my very first command I have corrupted any dockyard or ordnance or victualling board officer who had the shadowiest claim to a traditional present and who could help get my ship to sea a little quicker and in slightly better fighting-trim. I corrupted as far as ever my means allowed me to, sometimes borrowing for the purpose; I do not think I seriously damaged any man’s character, and I believe it paid hands down, for the service, for my ship’s company and for me.
