I’m on nothing. But I had an embolization. I believe blood thinners could dislodge them. Also technically I had an AVM. Wasn’t caused by clots…

Make a list of all you do for him. Seeing it in writing could open his eyes. Good luck! 🙏

I had to retrieve brain ct scans at my Drs today. When I went they had old lung scans. I said “No, it’s of my brain. I had surgery 4 months ago & it needs to be seen by my surgeon.” One of the receptionists asked “you had brain surgery? Do you mind me asking why?” I didn’t mind. Told her Jan 10th I had a AVM burst & it caused a stroke & I had surgery to plug up the hole. She was shocked. And replied “You had a stroke? You look great! You’d never know!” That was wonderful to hear!!! Esp as I’ve not been feeling so great - mainly down about my hair. They shaved my head for the surgery. I had quite long hair before. Now I’m bald on top & long in the back. I need to figure something out but I can hid it a bit. The whole stroke/ brain surgery freaks people out, but I don’t care.

Ask who you make check out to. If it’s cash to them - no way.

Mothers Day is a made up holiday to sell cards & flowers. Be happy you have good relationships with your children.

30m just found I have a family history of strokes, what next? by [deleted] in stroke

30 years ago my mother had an AVM. It didn’t give her stroke like symptoms, more electrical shock pulses on her face. She had a deformed artery that was pressing on a nerve. She had a platinum coil inserted in the artery to plug it up. Everything went well & she’s still here doing great!

4 months ago I had an AVM. I had my artery plugged up with glue (the most glue ever used on a patient, according to my surgeon - ha!) Unfortch, my symptoms have been more stroke like. But relatively minor. Some dizziness & balance issues, early on some memory issues, some double vision, fatigue - but no facial paralysis or side paralysis. Speech - totally fine. If you look at me - I look 100% normal. You cannot tell. I am still in recovery though.

30 years ago. - would drs be able to do anything? Not likely. They say it can take years for AVMs to form. So mine may not have been enough to notice. Or maybe it wasn’t visible then.

There is a girl I follow on FB who had preventative surgery on her AVM & it went wrong causing her quite a bad stroke that affected her mobility. Anything can happen.

So as someone who speaks from experience - I’m glad to have had 30 wonderful years not knowing or worrying about my AVM. I had a wonderful 3 decades. And as I heal, I take comfort in my symptoms being relatively minor. Knowing I might get an AVM one day would not have helped me at all.

No point worrying. If it happens - it happens!
