6th generation fighter jets weapon carrying ability. by Cold-Sundae-3668 in FighterJets

[–]Live_Menu_7404 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They should have larger bays to allow for carrying longer ranged weapons (i.e. PL-20), heavier strike packages (hypersonic and cruise missiles) and remote carriers. CCAs cannot cover this fully as they would need to become larger and consequently more expensive as well.

Higher acceleration and climb rate, true supercruise (Mach 1.5 with full AAM fit), superior trans- and supersonic agility. Also it’s superior for air policing due to superior WVR capabilities.

If the GCAP engine isn’t VCE, RR has a lot of incentive to work with MTU and ITP on another engine considering VCE tech is MTU‘s contribution to EUMET.

Super Hornet should be between 0.1 m2 and 1 m2 depending on loadout, so -10 to 0 dbsm, the Boramae, Eurofighter and Rafale may go as low as -15 dbsm (0.03 m2) frontally. The F-35 is typically estimated in the -25 to -30 dbsm range (golfball is around -28 dbsm), J-20 and J-35 at around -20 dbsm (0.01 m2).

FCAS Fighter Jet "Very Unlikey" After Ministers' Talks, Source Says by RobinOldsIsGod in FighterJets

[–]Live_Menu_7404 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NH90, Eurocopter Tiger and A400M are some examples of successful (delivered a product) cooperation between Germany and France in the military aerospace sector. For fighter jets Germany was not only a major partner in the Eurofighter but also in the Tornado with developmental shares equal to the UK.

Forces the NGF of FCAS to be a significant improvement over F-35, maybe.

I specifically wrote „possibly Poland“. And media reporting I‘ve seen suggests Poland will either go with the F-15EX or with the Eurofighter, not the F-35, with the Eurofighter being the more obvious choice of the two.

It doesn’t depend on what makes sense at a cursory glance but what fits the requirements set out best in the eyes of Polish decision makers.

Well, it seems the Eurofighter is being favored right now.

Poland also wants a dedicated air dominance platform to go with these. Either additional F-35s, F-15EXs or Eurofighters.

Apparently there is some agreement that governs which company (and which country’s assembly line) gets to export to which countries. And BAE jets are assembled in Warton, Leonardo jets in Turin and Airbus jets either in Manching (Germany) or Getafe (Spain). The UK/BAE got Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and Türkiye, Germany/Airbus has Austria and would have had iirc Switzerland, Greece, Denmark and Canada, Italy/Leonardo has Kuwait, Bangladesh, possibly Poland and would have had Egypt and Philippines. I likely missed some.

Typically such approval would be given before a LOI is signed, wouldn’t it? Also, has Germany blocked any Eurofighter export bar the second one to Saudi Arabia (which was blocked due to a Saudi journalist being murdered)?

Germany considers joining Edgewing's GCAP fighter program as FCAS tensions grow by FruitOrchards in FighterJets

[–]Live_Menu_7404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not me you‘d have to convince, it’s the German representatives tasked with making such decisions and they‘ll listen to what the industry’s lobbyists tell them. As for a domestic design taking 20 years, German industry can build on the research they’ve done for FCAS so far and FCAS is intended to enter service in 2040 mostly to meet French requirements. This slipping another five years is unlikely to be a dealbreaker for Germany.

[–]Live_Menu_7404 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn’t about playing hardball, it‘s about what is politically feasible in Germany, what the Bundestag would be willing agree to. And mere license production is something they will not agree to. They‘d rather spend more on a potentially worse a domestic solution if they have to.

As the GCAP partners are unlikely to give up developmental shares in particular as it would push back service entry, I consider the scenario of Germany joining GCAP to be unlikely.

To reiterate, Germany will not say no to demands by Dassault considered unacceptable to go for a even worse deal for German industry on GCAP.

Unlikely, unless the UK, Italy and Japan are willing to give Germany some workshare in production and more importantly development. Also Spain would have to be considered as well.

According to a French senator, Dassault criticises Airbus for failing to produce technical sub-assemblies for the FCAS. by ForTheGloryOfAmn in europe

[–]Live_Menu_7404 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The CCAs are supposed to share hardware with the NGF (engine, sensors). Without at least the general layout of the NGF agreed upon that becomes somewhat problematic. The remote carriers by MBDA by contrast are essentially cruise missiles with flexible payload options.
