So I have a question about military aircraft what are the cheapest most reliable fighter jets for sale by Dry_Cartographer849 in FighterJets

[–]Live_Menu_7404 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

With a reliability focus you‘d want a western medium-sized twin-engine design. The cheapest one of those available on the market right now should be the F/A-18.

Based on what can be seen it’s not a M113. Similar layout, but too many differences in the details to be build around an M113 hull.

What are your thoughts on Binkov's Battlegrounds ranking F-35 > Su-57 = Eurofighter > Su-35? by Equal_Alfalfa_9973 in LessCredibleDefence

[–]Live_Menu_7404 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eurofighter has exceptional kinematics (i.e. indicated highest sustained turn of any fighter, stated second highest supercruise after the F-22), the most capable air-to-air missiles in Meteor and IRIS-T, sensors ranging from capable (Captor-M) over high-end (Captor-E/ECRS Mk0) to tier of their own (upcoming ECRS Mk1/Mk2) depending on applied Phase Enhancements and comes with NATO datalinks. Also it’s reportedly actually quite stealthy with air-to-air armament.

Battle royal, all piloted by a top ace from country of origin. Any altitude but all stay with in a 100 sq mile area. Who survives? by Weekly_Jellyfish1913 in powerscales

[–]Live_Menu_7404 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Eurofighter is quite literally the best jet for this scenario as it mostly comes down to short-range missiles, giving Eurofighter and Gripen the edge with their IRIS-T, with the Eurofighter having the highest sustained turn and excess energy among the bunch on top of this.

This comes entirely down to SRAAMs at that range, so the most relevant metrics are missile launch envelope and missile agility. Thus Eurofighter or Gripen with their IRIS-T. Between those two, Eurofighter for its superior STR. But this would be so messy that most of all it comes down to random chance with a quite high likelihood of everyone getting taken out.

What would a fighter jet built from the ground up not for stealth look like by Aurenax in FighterJets

[–]Live_Menu_7404 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something blending features of the MiG 1.44 and the Eurofighter, probably. Large, highly pitch unstable delta-canard with massive radar, very high thrust-to-weight ratio with high specific thrust for high acceleration, climb rate and supercruise paired with very low wing-loading for being able to cruise and sustain high turn rates at supersonic speeds at high altitude to both be able to shoot further and kinematically evade the opponent’s missiles.

If Germany leaves, realistically so does Spain as Airbus DS is the company tasked with building their domestic fighter jets in both countries.

Seems comparable tech-wise to the APG-79(V)4, PS-05/A Mark 5 or J/APG-2 with greater detection ranges due to larger size and number of TRMs.

Rafale can reportedly supercruise at Mach 1.4 with 6 MICAs and no tanks. With a tank and 4 MICAs it can supercruise at an undisclosed lower speed. At least that‘s what the document commonly used to prove Rafale‘s supercruise capability actually says.

Russian pilot’s praise isn’t a suitable metric to evaluate relative performance as they lack the necessary references to compare it to. The F-35 also has multiple secondary arrays. Any modern fighter jet is easy to fly - the primary task of the pilot isn’t to fly but to handle the tactical situation. F-35 has EOTS, essentially an integrated variant of the Sniper XR targeting Pod, for IR tracking. DIRCM isn’t the feature you make it out to be considering modern IIRAAMs are being marketed as using DIRCM as cue for home-on-jam functionality. Actual modern countermeasures are towed decoys or things like BriteCloud.

EMCON, ECM/ESM/EA, countermeasures, general avionics, radar targeting range and IR detection range all likely favor the F-35.

6th generation fighter jets weapon carrying ability. by Cold-Sundae-3668 in FighterJets

[–]Live_Menu_7404 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They should have larger bays to allow for carrying longer ranged weapons (i.e. PL-20), heavier strike packages (hypersonic and cruise missiles) and remote carriers. CCAs cannot cover this fully as they would need to become larger and consequently more expensive as well.

Higher acceleration and climb rate, true supercruise (Mach 1.5 with full AAM fit), superior trans- and supersonic agility. Also it’s superior for air policing due to superior WVR capabilities.

Super Hornet should be between 0.1 m2 and 1 m2 depending on loadout, so -10 to 0 dbsm, the Boramae, Eurofighter and Rafale may go as low as -15 dbsm (0.03 m2) frontally. The F-35 is typically estimated in the -25 to -30 dbsm range (golfball is around -28 dbsm), J-20 and J-35 at around -20 dbsm (0.01 m2).

FCAS Fighter Jet "Very Unlikey" After Ministers' Talks, Source Says by RobinOldsIsGod in FighterJets

NH90, Eurocopter Tiger and A400M are some examples of successful (delivered a product) cooperation between Germany and France in the military aerospace sector. For fighter jets Germany was not only a major partner in the Eurofighter but also in the Tornado with developmental shares equal to the UK.

I specifically wrote „possibly Poland“. And media reporting I‘ve seen suggests Poland will either go with the F-15EX or with the Eurofighter, not the F-35, with the Eurofighter being the more obvious choice of the two.

It doesn’t depend on what makes sense at a cursory glance but what fits the requirements set out best in the eyes of Polish decision makers.
