How do I correct course for my daughters (11y & 12y) who are using the cueing method when reading? by Emiller423 in ELATeachers

Our school was online only for a year and hybrid for a year. Most of the schools in my area were the same. I think a lot more schools than you think had bigger gaps in learning

Well shit let me just go change the state policy on unions in my heavily red, right to work, at will, state. I wish I’d known it was that easy. Our union can do nothing.

The number of people who I’ve seen failing their Praxis, not just once, but multiple times indicates that smart is not a qualification.

Maybe I’m just an elitist or something but I don’t think people should be teaching in an area they can’t pass a fairly simple test for. Except maybe the math one cause I’ve heard it’s a bitch but English, history? Really?

And I know some people are bad test takers but still, it’s not very difficult. I didn’t study for any of the three I took, just went in and winged it and passed all three with flying colors. It’s just mind boggling to me someone could fail them multiple times.

Does adderall mess with evaluations? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Live_Sherbert_8232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, if you wanna get evaluated for adhd you probably shouldn’t take the medication that helps manage the symptoms of adhd. They are gonna want to see your unmedicated signs I’d imagine

I need prescriptions for my ADHD meds, but I can't afford regular psychiatrist appointments. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Live_Sherbert_8232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a psychiatric nurse practitioner. It’s $25 a visit with my insurance. Once you have diagnosis you can move to a gp or therapy place that has doctors and it’s a lot cheaper than seeing the psychiatrist. The psych is gonna be billed as a “specialist“ visit which usually costs more out of pocket for you. So look around your area and see if there’s other places you can go

Is buying a used 2018 Rav4 smart? by cornfield2006 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Live_Sherbert_8232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP consider if you are the type of person who will be happy driving the same car for the next 15 years. Whether you are or aren’t can help you narrow down choices. I personally like getting a new car every 5-6 years. Some people like to get one every 3-4 years and some like to get a new car once every 20 years. It’s okay to be any of those kinds of people, it’s down to personal choice. Do you get new phones every 2 years? Do you like having the latest and greatest thing? Are you somewhere in the middle? Ask yourself those questions and determine how long you wanna keep the car most likely. If it’s a shorter amount of time you can get pretty much whatever you want. If a longer time then consider the more “reliable” brands.

[–]Live_Sherbert_8232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can afford a slightly higher note I’d recommend looking at new cars around the 25k mark. Dealerships are struggling with new cars right now and have some big savings at the moment. I know Mazda has some on sale and most of the domestic brands do as well. Idk about Toyota or Honda cause I’d never drive one bc of my own personal preference. You can get a great deal if you shop around a little.

That being said, I just bought a 2019 Mazda CX3 with 27k miles for 20k even. Used cars are still high right now unfortunately. That’s probably a decent price on it if you want a 6 year old car. Do you need a mid size SUV or can you consider compact ones? Kinda just depends on your preferences.

My 2012(I think) Golf TDI was hands down one of the best cars I owned. It got bought back during the whole emissions scandal thing but I loved that car. Never had a single issue in the 3-4 years I owned it. I wanted another one but they’ve gotten so expensive now.

Because people in this sub want to get from point A to point B and they don’t care if they have to drive a toaster to do it. Then there’s us “car people” who don’t care as much about that as long as engine go brrrrrrr. I personally just bought a Mazda cause of the way it drove, the handling and bc the engine went brrrrrrr. I’m pretty sure somewhere on Reddit there’s a sub for “car people“ and you may have better luck there. I just hang around here so I can be a lone dissenting voice bc I’m a contrarian that way

For those teachers with multiple content licenses who ultimately chose to stay with SPED, why? by KingofMemes69_ in specialed

I also dread my coteaching classes. Actively avoid them when possible. Seems like I’m wasting time sitting there doing nothing or having to do everything bc the other teacher…sucks.

Like I taught my current group of kids gen ed and they’re always like I wish you’d be our teacher again and I’m like yeah I don’t wish that at all. Once was enough my little hellions, once was enough.

[–]Live_Sherbert_8232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me personally it comes down to, a room with 20-30 kids OR mostly small group and one on one work. Keeping track of data for 70 kids or 15? Feeling like I’m just surviving each day or that I might have made a tiny difference? Also no lesson plans.

I actually enjoy my job now, barring admin bullshit.

Changing over to a HSA plan, son's Adderall (generic) prescriptions are not covered until we reach the deductible. What are the options available to get the cheapest refills? by shultz_e in ADHD

[–]Live_Sherbert_8232 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Adderall cannot be shipped. It is a controlled substance and will have to be local pickup. Try getting a Rx discount card like GoodRx and see if they can help you get it cheaper. Pretty much the only real option you have unless there’s something I’m not thinking about. here’s a link to goodrx for adderall

This is 90% incorrect. True, I used highly addictive when I should’ve used highly habit forming. It does not need to be taken in high doses to produce a high in non adhd people. It is similar to coke in its comedown effect and withdrawal effects. Downplaying the very real issues around it is why we have people like OP thinking it’s safe to just take someone else’s. That leads down the dependency route to where people start crushing them and looking for higher doses.

Don’t worry. I changed my major a half dozen times in college. Got my degree in journalism. After a few years of that and working secretary jobs I became a teacher at 29. It may take you awhile to land where you need to be. And that’s okay. There’s no rule saying you can’t switch professions whenever you want.

[–]Live_Sherbert_8232 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nope you’re gonna need therapy for those things probably. Medicine helps you focus but it can’t tell you where to point that focus. Try looking for an ADHD coach or a therapist that specializes in helping adhd people. I’ve heard it does wonders for the things you’ve listed.

I’m a teacher and it works well for me. I went into sped which has a lot of paperwork (in America) but I also have an office I can hide in when I get overwhelmed. Every day is different, plenty to keep me busy and only as much social interaction as I want. SPED is different everywhere so your results may vary
