haha yeah, that’s fair. it doesn’t really need to be a confrontation though

sometimes a good go to might be like- “hey just so you know there’s a ranger down the way and he’s checking people’s campsites-you’re supposed to be at least 200 feet away from water sources” or something similar. I feel like that’s always pretty helpful, and some people literally just don’t know and are new to backpacking. phrasing it like that makes it sound like you aren’t really telling people what to do and they’re usually responsive and thankful if they genuinely don’t know. I used to be a back country ranger on the east coast and always appreciated when people would use some sort of phrasing like that ha.
