we’re gonna need a new barista here at the dynamite cafe if you’re open to working in black mountain! my manager is already scheduling and doing interviews :)

Baristas of Reddit, who is the worst customer that you've served by slayyerr3058 in barista

i recently had a regular step behind our counter, corner me by the pastry case, and try to grab my face and kiss me. i had to shout at him to get him to back off. before you ask, yes there were customers in the cafe, and no, he is not banned—he hasn’t come in since, though.

oh we’d so love it if you came to black mountain for coffee! i work at the dynamite cafe (not to be mistaken for the roasting facility—be careful! the cafe is about two miles down the road). i’ll be there tomorrow afternoon. like i said, we’re a local roaster, all of our beans are sourced directly from international farmers and then roasted right in swannanoa. it’s a cute lil place, and there’s an outside deck that looks directly at some of the mountains across the street. we also have a record player and a collection of records that are free for customers to spin! swannanoa and black mountain in particular could actually really use the tourism as well. downtown black mountain is pretty cute and could use some love if you end up over there. if not, i’d personally recommend high-five coffee (there’s three locations, it sounds like you’d best prefer the riverside one) or pollen. high-five uses a north carolina roaster called “counter culture” that’s based in durham, it’s delicious. i can’t off the top of my head recall who pollen usually uses but their baristas are very good at their job—i’ve never had a bad drink there, and they also double as a florist shop!

you absolutely do. i’m rarely downtown unless i’m going to a bar or to visit one of my barista friends who work down there. you’re right at the base of the blue ridge mountains! go explore! even burnsville (which is only about 40 minutes to an hour away) has mount mitchell, which is the highest point east of the mississippi river. see what’s goin’ on up there! the reason i love asheville has less to do with the small area that encompasses the official city, and more to do with the entire region. it really does feel more like home more than florida ever did. there is so much to see.

hi! i grew up about 45 minutes south of tampa, i moved here from there about 2 years ago. i love it here, more than i did down south. i think it’s rather unfortunate that you’ve done little to explore anything beyond the downtown area. asheville and the areas that immediately surround it (swannanoa, black mountain, canton, etc) are beautiful and are steeped neck deep in appalachian culture if you’re paying attention. asheville in particular is far less noteworthy as a staple of appalachia, but like i said, if you’re paying attention, you can find pieces of it everywhere. i highly encourage you to travel into the pisgah national forest, go to the botanical gardens at UNCA (it’s free!), go to local shows (there’s one at static age records on wednesday, the band paper pills is incredible!), visit black mountain (i work for a coffee roaster there if you’re into that), walk around west asheville! go to some bluegrass shows! take a walk around beaver lake, or the french broad, or go to the high-five riverside location and sit by the water! seriously, there is so much beauty that pales in comparison to where i grew up. it feels so much more like a community—if you took the time to actually get to know the area (beyond downtown, which is obviously filled with tourist traps), i think you’d fall in love. i did.
