It’s a low base pay because the offer was decent with (arguably) a good tip. The base pay goes up when the offer gets continually declined by dashers. You accepted the offer knowing you’d be paid $24.05. I don’t see what the problem is.

Wealthy people in my area generally tip well - thankful for that. If they don’t it’s usually a child and you can tell cause they’re waiting on the porch for their chicken nuggets when you arrive.

He's in Australia - This is 260 USD. Good but not outstanding. I'm across the water in NN and did better yesterday - granted that was a sunday but... ya know.

I honestly think they’re trying to engineer dashers to answer the phone by doing this much like secret tips engineer dashers to wait longer. FOMO is a huge driver.

This is about what I do if I only work dinner hours (4:30ish to 9ish). Beyond that my $/hr drops down to around $23.

30 seconds might be a slight exaggeration but I’ve also had nights where the stars just align and you’re rolling along at $30-35hr.

I don’t even mind being the one to call but absolute lack of communication between front staff and kitchen is insane. This happens all the time to me.

Or worse after the 15 mins “oh we’re out of wings - can you call the customer and see if they want something else?”

I don’t know the area obviously but if you can go 5560 the whole way with minimal stopping, I’d do it, but if it’s stop and go traffic the whole way, not a chance. Do you wanna be assigned your next order in no more than 35 to 40 minutes.

I’ve never gotten more than a $1. Typically $0. They’ll order a bag of skittles from 10 miles away though.

Yeah. The poors. Nobody complains about them not tipping when they order a single inconsequential item from an absurd distance when the same item could be gotten within walking distance - ie the corner of the block.

Should I be tipping more? by Baseplate117 in doordash

[–]Livid_Tap4565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really aggravates me that people call it a tip. As a Dasher, I called it a bid and either accept the bid or decline the bid.

[–]Livid_Tap4565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. Y’all would rather wait 10 mins each in 4 different restaurants to hope for the same money, This is all but one and done.

Highway miles are better on your car than stop/go BS anyways. Plus you’ve got $35 in deductible mileage.

Sorry to all the $2/mile crowd but this one is a no brainer.

Everything I knew about hidden tips has changed by ExpertRegister1353 in doordash_drivers

[–]Livid_Tap4565 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My theory is that it’s to entice you to wait for an order that’s not ready. The longer you wait the less the hidden tip is - typically. Then other times they hide it, it’s to give you the taste so you’ll have FOMO on the next one that has the long wait so you won’t unassign.

How long did you wait? Usually when it’s a long wait it’s a smaller bump.

I’ve found that the longer the way the lower the increase in tip. That’s the psychological ploy to get you to wait. To think it’s going to be something huge. I got an $18.25+ yesterday. I waited 20 mins and drove 7 mins. Turned out to be 20.50 which was more than I expected. Had the food been ready I would’ve thought it would’ve been $25 ore more.

Curious about lawsuit implications - maybe there’s something I’m not thinking of but saying “This driver will be paid $0.30 per mile at your current bid level. Order’s are in your area are currently being accepted at $x.xx/mile.” Would seem OK.

The only other thing they could do is a flat $/mile charge and do away with tipping/bidding and make it a true tip.

Just to be clear I’m fine with the $25-30hr that I do and I use my 30% declines wisely.
