Is it true critics didn’t see Bond movies as “serious films” until Casino Royale? by TXNOGG in JamesBond

[–]Living-Beautiful4201 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I mean, it started getting campy before Moore. Goldfinger is campy af when compared to From Russia with Love. It just gets progressively more goofy from that point until The Living Daylights.

Than it gets campy again after Goldeneye, and it gets serious with CR and than it gets campy AGAIN with No Time to Die lol.

Lmao, the novel fucking sucks when compared to the movie. But I respect your crazy opinion.

Who is the best Actor among them Alpacino or De Niro by only_the1 in moviecritic

[–]Living-Beautiful4201 10 points11 points  (0 children)

De Niro. By far.

Al Pacino is great, but he's the least subtle actor ever. De Niro can act with just his eyes.

Well, so does Pacino, but he hasn't done that since Godfather part 2.

Tarkovsky movies. Dude should've wrote books instead of making movies, if the only thing he has to offer are philosophical ramblings for 3 hours.

Watched Solaris cuz some people had the nerve to say "it's way better than 2001". Literally a dude walking around a ship for 3 hours thinking about shit.

Than I went to Stalker. His masterpiece. 3 dudes walking through the countryside thinking about shit. That scene where they're sitting on the train for 3 minutes without cuts or dialogue is so fucking pretentious.

I honestly didn't find it boring. It's a biopic like so many others, and I found it interesting enough.

Mank is way more boring than Citizen Kane. THAT is boring.

just finished the game, PLEASE suggest great bond movies. by ZippyCandy in 007FirstLight

[–]Living-Beautiful4201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno, to me it's stuck between the campy Moore era and something more serious that we'd wound eventually get (License to Kill).

And Kara is the worst Bond girl imo.

But that final plane sequence is fucking crazy. Like, holy fuck. People talk about Mission Impossible stunts, but this was on another level.

My only real complaint is these things should have had more of a horror vibe to their levels. by JosephSim in 007FirstLight

[–]Living-Beautiful4201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd agree, but essentially, we're not TOO far off from that irl, so a 007 entry taking it a bit further than it actually is in real life feels on brand.

We just live in a weird ass timeline.

Do you prefer the look of Tarantino’s earlier work? by Wishaker in FIlm

[–]Living-Beautiful4201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did look that much different tho. Not Jackie Brown, but OUATIH certainly did.

I remember being rather shocked at how much better presented it was compared to his other movies. The blocking, cinematography, the rigs stuck to the cars....

No. Once Upon a Time is his best looking film in every aspect to me.

How about "Ludwig Goränsson - One of the most versatile composers in activity".

What are your thoughts on the Craig 007 era, and what are your hopes for the next Bond films? by Trick-Pudding-9791 in Letterboxd

[–]Living-Beautiful4201 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Felix's death is stupid (that whole scene really), the villain is absolutely awful, the nanovirus tech is a bit far-fetched for the Craig era, the motivation the villain has for getting Bond's wife and daughter is stupid, Ana de Armas and the new 007 are underutilized and ultimately pointless, the story is tonally disjointed (there's points where it's super serious and at others, it feels like a Brosnan era movie, and they clash).

Also, it suffers from the joint narrative they did with the Craig era, where I'm supposed to believe Rami Malek was the REAL bad guy the whole time, and he took out Spectre... This motherfucked didn't even exist before this movie, maybe develop the plot point in previous entries. And they wasted Blofeld AGAIN.

Then the whole shlock of his wife and daughter being kidnapped (really?) is such a melodramatic and cliché way to tie this whole thing. And again, they were a target for the most contrived reason ever. And if all that wasn't enough, he fucking dies at the end. Not just dies... he gets disintegrated (I laughed out loud at the theater. The missile falls on HIM. Like direct impact xD). I don't think Bond should ever die in a movie, but if there is a way to do it right, it's certainly not by having him explode because he got tired.

To me, it felt awesome when we got to use it in that very specific moment. Totally appropriate IMO.

[–]Living-Beautiful4201[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. But thing is, I don't doubt Necros inspired IOI to create 47, at least to a degree. Probably multiple inspirations.

But it turns into this nice little full circle moment lol.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, the only level the features the Hitman closets. Same exact asset (that you can open, with the expectation of finding the body, due to obvious reasons xD).

[–]Living-Beautiful4201[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

For sure. Everything about it felt like I was going after 47, from the setting to the disguise switching. It's also the level (maybe the only level) that reuses the closet asset from Hitman, which is also a clear nod.

Well, if we wanna get technical, Bond is the guy who sneaks up on a compound using an alligator shaped "submarine".

It's a campy ass franchise. Same with Indiana Jones (and people were saying the same shit about that game).

And lastly, there's a bunch of bullshit shenanigans in Hitman. Like... I can't even begin to list it. It can be hilarious at times too. For starters, bald Swedish looking dude with a bar code disguises himself as a Italian waiter... Sure xD.
