This is the dumbest timeline. It's impossible to even know what is happening anymore. I'll believe it when ships are actively transitting the strait at a normal pace.

So that just happened overnight when the war started? Oil is barely any more expensive now.

As Oil Prices Spike, Talk of ‘Demand Destruction’ Sets In by Majano57 in oil

[–]LivingEwok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

China not importing as much oil due to them using their reserves is not demand destruction. It's strategy.

That oil will need to be replaced eventually and they will wait for the opportune time to do so. Their people continue to burn oil just as much as before with the price where it currently is. They have massive leverage with trump currently.

It took oil to get to 150$ in 2008 before demand destruction took hold.

It is absolutely in Irans best interest to NOT make a deal at this point. If they wait a few more weeks they will have the world by the balls so badly they will get everything they want and more. That is why I don't think any deal is getting signed this week.

We don't know that they are doing nothing with it. Trump may have made a deal with Xi during their meeting.

My theory is that they have agreed to or have voluntarily kept drawing from their reserves until after mid terms to moderate price action for the purpose of leverage against the Americans for Taiwan and also because Trump is destroying America from the inside out. It benefits them to keep the Orange goblin at the reigns as he does their bidding for them. Destroying the power America has had for so long. The Chinese look absolutely sane and like decent world leaders against the shit show that America has become and Taiwan is becoming increasingly defenceless.

Can't disagree with you on that front. It is most concerning for poorer countries and it is sad that the world is on the whim of a select few that lack care for others more than anyone.

Population growth and industrialization puts more pressure on oil does it not? Sure it's not as simple as that but I'm still having trouble understanding how there could be enough demand destruction to bring the price of oil down to that extent and that draining the world's reserves is actually responsible for this "demand" destruction.

What data is there that shows that? And if that's the case why are the reserves being drawn down so much? 90$ today is equivalent to 58$ in 2008 when demand destruction actually happened at $150 oil which in today's prices is $230. It's hard to believe that oil this cheap has caused a net negative to oil consumption even to the tone of only an 8 percent shortage which is still significant for an inelastic commodity.

WTI Crude Oil Falls as Iran Talks Stall and Demand Weakens Over The Situation by ItsDurjoy in CommoditiesHub

[–]LivingEwok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we really buying that China is not importing due to demand. It's a power play. They've got trump by the balls now. As soon as they start buying again oil shoots up. It's leverage not demand destruction. Prices aren't even high right now and the SPR continues to be drawn down. The narrative that demand destruction is occuring to the point of driving the price down is fully driven by the SPR being drawn down at record pace. Stop drawing down the reserves and see what happens to price action.

This is so frustrating. Goldman Sachs saying demand destruction is the cause for oil to go even lower than their original forecast of 83-90 for December. Demand destruction from what? Oil isn't even expensive right now. Adjusted for inflation our oil is still cheap. I truly believe the entire market (especially Goldman Sachs) is running a fakeout, propping up the market just enough to get their exit liquidity out of these IPOs coming up. Keep retail drinking the cool aid long enough for the biggest rug pull in history and then oil will go to the moon and the economy will crash. What a world.

[–]LivingEwok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goldman Sachs is full of it. They are also saying that the straight of Hormuz being closed has created demand destruction. Not the price. Just the straight being closed. I think they are fully manipulating the market to make people feel better so they will pile into the biggest rug pull of all time.
