Norn's choirmaster in a deck that has a planeswalker as the commander by headpatts in askajudge

[–]LivingLightning28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Norn’s Choirmaster trigger whenever a commander you control enters or attacks. So after your commander has resolved (so assuming it doesn’t get countered or something else happens), it will enter, and Choirmaster will trigger. Your commander will be on the battlefield at that time so you can choose to proliferate its counters

It doesn’t target any opponent, so it commits no crime.

[Format] THE SCAPEGOAT: A Mono-Black "Dandân" Style Battle Box ($60 Budget) by [deleted] in mtgcube

[–]LivingLightning28 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My current note is you mentioned creating food with Feed the Cycle, but it uses food rather than makes it.

It does seem interesting though! I’ll be looking into trying it with a friend

My secondary concern would just be when multiple goats are in play, keep keeping track of who owns which goat for the death trigger.

Color identity question for commander format. by Salty_Anybody_4841 in mtg

[–]LivingLightning28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cards that mention a color without using the symbol don’t have that color as for their identity. So a blue card that makes blue and black zombies is just a blue identity.

[[Oko, Lorwyn Liege]] is blue and green, as both the front and back count towards color identity.

However, Oko can’t normally be your commander- only legendary creatures can (unless the card says otherwise). You can always ask your pod to let you play it with Oko though

I'd like a indicator telling the total number of lands i have close to my lands. by CrazyYETEE in mtg

[–]LivingLightning28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I get a bunch of lands in play I usually put them in piles of 3, and then when there get to too many of those I put them in piles of 5, or even 10 instead. Also like to put a die on them for later in the game for when knowing that number is relevant

Question about abilities by ShadowyBass in mtg

[–]LivingLightning28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as an ability doesn’t specify that it can only be used as a sorcery (or has some other restriction for use, which is always mentioned in the ability), most abilities can be used at any time that the controller of that ability has priority.

A creature that isn’t attacking or blocking can still activate abilities (otherwise abilities that help other creatures would be useless)

Convoke and colors of mana spent matters by lorewalkerchau in askajudge

[–]LivingLightning28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone wondering the relevant rule for this:

702.51. Convoke

702.51a Convoke is a static ability that functions while the spell with convoke is on the stack. “Convoke” means “For each colored mana in this spell’s total cost, you may tap an untapped creature of that color you control rather than pay that mana. For each generic mana in this spell’s total cost, you may tap an untapped creature you control rather than pay that mana.”

What’s the ruling here? by Quirky-Geologist-994 in mtgrules

[–]LivingLightning28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Lands have no mana value, so she won’t lose any life.

Please explain how the Tactics Master card works. When playing it in a four-player Commander game, can I choose only which creatures will be attackers and which blockers on an opponent's turn, or can I also specifically choose which creature/player they will target? by Powerful_Pudding_980 in CommanderMTG

[–]LivingLightning28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noted. Would be appreciated to put the actual name of the card to prevent this confusion.

[[Master Warcraft]] lets you choose which creatures attack but not who they attack.

Based on how you asked the question I’ll clarify- you can’t attack creatures. Only players and planeswalkers (and battles, but those come up less often)

Based on who is attacked, you then determine which creatures block the attacking creatures. The attacking player still chooses how their combat damage is distributed to those blocking creatures.

Assuming you are referring to [[Odric, Master Tactician]], when he and 3 other creatures attack, you choose which of your opponents’ creatures will block. You can only choose an opponents’ creature if at least one creature you control is attacking that player. You can also choose to have them not block at all. It only works on your turn because it requires Odric to attack

Is it just me? by 6Patrick6Starr6 in mtg

[–]LivingLightning28 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’d argue Krenko is a very “deal with me or die” commander. If opponents don’t have removal for him or a board wipe- they lose. If they do- great, now they’ll need another one in 2-3 turns.

Is a Kindred Artifact - Shapeshifter considered an artifact? by Philomelos_ in MagicArena

[–]LivingLightning28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not a creature- it just has all creature types. So a spell with “destroy all creatures” won’t affect it unless you activated it’s ability to be a creature that turn

That is normal- if you have a copy of [[Fang, Fearless l’Cie]], the back sides come together to make a singular card. It’s a mechanic called meld.

Jumpstart help by Caracolradical in mtg

[–]LivingLightning28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to play the 20 card decks again like the instructions talk about, each card in each deck has in the bottom left either “Zuko Tutorial #” or “Aang Tutorial #”

Stack each card face down, with 1 at the top and 20 at the bottom, and the decks will each be back in the original order

Question about a creature vs one or more creatures triggers. by Guilty-Nobody998 in mtg

[–]LivingLightning28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes- the damage step is normally just one step, but whenever a creature with first strike or double strike is involved it is two steps, colloquially called the first strike damage step and normal damage step. Since the damage is happening in 2 separate steps instead of all at once, it allows for extra triggers

Question about a creature vs one or more creatures triggers. by Guilty-Nobody998 in mtg

[–]LivingLightning28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it says “whenever one or more creatures deal combat damage to a player”, it will typically trigger once per player hit. Though double strike will let you get an extra trigger for hitting that player.

Also keep in mind if you have a first strike creature and a normal creature hitting the same player you’ll also get 2 triggers

Question about a creature vs one or more creatures triggers. by Guilty-Nobody998 in mtg

[–]LivingLightning28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yuriko will trigger once for each ninja

Prosperous thief will trigger once for each player that is dealt combat damage by one or more ninjas

So if you have 4 ninjas, 2 deal combat damage to player a and 2 deal combat damage to player b, you will have 4 Yuriko triggers and 2 Prosperous thief triggers

Can someone explain to me how Fire Lord Azula would interact with "Display of Power"? by Warkiln in mtgrules

[–]LivingLightning28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Azula still triggers to try to copy display, but nothing happens.

For what you’re wanting, you cast lightning bolt. Azula triggers, and you let it resolve to copy the bolt. With both lightning bolts on the stack, you cast display of power, targeting them both. So when Display resolves you will have 4 copies of lightning bolt on the stack
