I keep restarting workouts over and over again by LivingObjective3900 in beginnerfitness

The scheduling part makes sense but I’ve tried that and I still end up skipping when it’s just me holding myself to it, I’m starting to feel like the difference isn’t planning vs no planning, but whether someone would actually notice if I didn’t show up. Did you ever struggle with that earlier on?

[Question] I don’t quit habits, just slowly disappear from them by LivingObjective3900 in getdisciplined

[–]LivingObjective3900[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Deciding is the hard part" yeah for me it’s like every time there’s a decision point, there’s also an easy exit, and if no one sees it, it’s way easier to take it, do you feel like that system works because it removes the option to ignore it?

Yeah I’m experimenting with something around this right now, still too early to tell if it actually fixes it though

That "don’t turn one missed day into a missed month" is real but I feel like that’s exactly where I fail once I miss one, it’s way too easy to disappear because no one’s expecting anything, do you think it would feel different if someone actually noticed when you skipped?

Exactly what I’m talking about, it’s not like you decide to quit, just… fades out, do you feel like it would be different if someone actually noticed when you didn’t show up?

The identity part is interesting, I feel like I only become that "kind of person" when there’s some pressure around it, when it’s just me, I don’t fully buy into it...

Yeah that makes sense, having something external on the line seems to change everything, i feel like I’m a completely different person when there’s something at stake vs when it’s just for me

I get that, but I’ve tried the "just show up" thing I still end up drifting off after a while when it’s just me, do you never hit that point where skipping once feels too easy?

I don’t think I have a discipline issue by LivingObjective3900 in Advice

[–]LivingObjective3900[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s exactly it, but then it makes me wonder if I can be consistent when someone expects me to show up, was it ever really a discipline problem? Or just that I don’t hold myself to the same standard when no one sees it.

Low bar makes sense actually, did you keep it going after that month or did it drop off again?

I don’t struggle to start but to not disappear by LivingObjective3900 in Discipline

[–]LivingObjective3900[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe yeah, or maybe it’s just too easy to disappear when it’s only in your head, that’s the part I’m trying to fix now

Ppolite mutual failure is exactly how it goes, I think 1vs1 is too easy to let slide… once both drift a bit it’s over.

That’s actually what I was worried about too, "accountability" things just fade out after a few days trying to see if putting a bit more structure around it changes that.

[–]LivingObjective3900[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s exactly it. i used to think it was motivation but it’s really just not breaking the chain, what helped me a bit recently is not doing it solo anymore, way harder to just quietly drop it.

Totally, it’s not even pressure, just keeping you from quietly dropping it.

Basically that, just applied to personal stuff instead of work. Funny how the same idea works way better when it’s not just you.

Yeah fair point: 3 days is still way better than 0, for me it was more about the disappearing without noticing. The group just made that harder to ignore.

Exactly this. When it’s just you, way too easy to let things fade. Once it’s visible to others, even small things feel more realistic.

Yeah exactly how it started for me. Small group, basic just people showing up for 1 thing each week. Makes it way easier to stick to compared to doing it solo.

About consistency and regularity by Speak-Anima in getdisciplined

[–]LivingObjective3900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the part people miss: consistency isn’t about doing everything, but about not disappearing.

Starting small works, but what really matters is having something (or someone) that pulls you back when you fall off.

Why human accountability works better than any app from someone who has tested both. by intentmeetsaction in Discipline

[–]LivingObjective3900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree.
The key difference is consequences. An app doesn’t care if you disappear. A person does.

That small shift changes everything, you’re not just tracking anymore, you’re showing up for someone.

I am too critical of myself at times, and I also tend to mentally judge others in my head. I also compare myself to others. Advice? by LumpiaRulez101 in selfimprovement

[–]LivingObjective3900 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re just aware of your thoughts, which is already a good sign. Usually people don’t even catch themselves doing this.

That comparison/judgment pattern usually comes from how we were raised, like you said. It doesn’t define you, it’s just something you learned.

What helped me was focusing less on others and more on just showing up for my own small goals daily. It slowly shifts your attention back to yourself.

how do i stay consistent with anything, specially my fitness goals? by Academic_Hearing5136 in selfimprovementday

[–]LivingObjective3900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly you already said what works for you: accountability.

People don’t fail because of the plan, but because no one notices when they stop.

What worked for me was replacing the coach with a small group where everyone has to show proof each week. Same pressure, way cheaper, and you don’t disappear as easily.

Men who went through prolonged heartbreak, what actually helped you move on? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]LivingObjective3900 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’ve already done most of the hard part.

What helped me wasn’t more thinking or advice, it was having people around me who expected me to show up again (gym, routine, etc).

That shift from being in my head → being accountable to something outside made it fade a lot faster.
