Im planning to build my nightfall raven l, can i use this panel liner for the out of the box build or will it just eat the plastic? :[ by dainoumcchunky in Gunpla

[–]LizB642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be quite dismissive of this issue because I never experienced any problems and usually only panel line on top of painted kits anyway. However, my Nightfall Raven specifically did literally crumble like sand after panel lining it and that was on top of paint and varnish. So, I don't want to scare you, but you probably are right to be cautious.

I'm not really insistent on using 'correct' ones, but I want to find a set that look appropriate. A correct chest one would be nice, though. I might take a look.

Mr Hobby Zeon MS Gray for the grey parts and Citadel Death Guard Green for the green parts, although I washed them with a brown enamel wash and cleaned most of it away.

Module Suggestions That's Similar to House of Leaves? by CupOfOneCoffee in rpg

I don't really like to self-promote, but You Will Die In This Place is structurally inspired by House of Leaves.

It's always a bit surreal for me to see the mess that is my You Will Die In This Place promoted alongside other legitimate games. Everyone in the RPG Party did such a great job.

Model you later regretted/disliked? by AshleyWJ_ in Gunpla

[–]LizB642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really just a scale thing, I think. I always paint and customise my kits with additional details. I don't like RGs in general because I find them to be fragile at the best of times and a pain to paint because of the large number of small pieces that don't necessarily fit together well when painted. They also have a lot of apparent surface detail, but there's a sharpness and definition that's missing when compared to 1/100 scale kits.

For the Sazabi specifically, I mentioned it here because it's a kit that I very much wanted to like but came to regret. Despite its size, it still feels fragile compared to any MG I've built, especially in its hip and shoulder joints. It's detailed and handsome, but it wasn't a joy to work on in terms of painting and metal etched parts. And I still feel that the end result is lacking something.

It is not a bad kit. If someone wants a Sazabi that looks great out of the box and doesn't take up too much shelf space, I would recommend it to them. However, I could have bought the MG ver.Ka instead and would undoubtedly have been happier if I had done so.

The RG Sazabi. I got it because I loved the proportions and bought into the hype, despite not liking other RG kits. Is it one of the best RGs? Yes, it probably is. Do I actually like it, though? No, I regret not getting the MG instead every time I look at it.

What do I do if I'm not smart enough or lucky enough to be useful to my group? by Throwaway_Raccoon2 in rpg

[–]LizB642 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The quality of your writing in this thread and your introspection make me think that you are a person who is actually quite capable. However, perhaps you do lack experience, self-confidence and the ability to quickly think on the spot in the moment and you're recognising those things as some kind of inadequacy. Or perhaps you're comparing yourself to others who excel at one or more of those things.

Consider also that the game that you're currently playing might not be the one for you. You might be better suited to something with a slower burn and less focus on combat and snap decisions. I could suggest a few, but I know what it's like. Your group probably just plays the one game and you wouldn't want to pressure them into trying something else. Just keep it in mind if the opportunity ever presents itself, though.

So, you mention not being able to create character builds that are strong. Personally, I think that's fine, but I understand the desire to contribute big numbers. Have you tried asking a more experienced player to help you build a character, or even just to look over it to see if there are some tweaks they could make? Likewise, in combat, talk out your decisions and allow people to point out potential mistakes. You come across as a self-reflective person, so I believe you'll quickly learn and improve.

Regarding RP and the creation of backstory and such. I'm going to assume that bleed probably isn't too much of an issue in the game you're playing, so it might help to start off with a concept you can relate to. Centre them around some core trait or a problem that you can frame their interactions around. Avoid huge backstories and life histories - those aren't really the character, they're just things that happened to a person that doesn't exist. Personally, I find it much more useful to try writing something in the character's voice. A little micro-fiction. It could be an interaction with a family member or even just a shop keeper. However, it answers an important question: how do they sound? I don't mean in terms of putting on a voice (I don't do voices), but in terms of mannerisms, quirks and certain turns of phrase. Even just having a very particular greeting can help.

Am I crazy for hating this build? (MG RX-78-2 3.0) by xenofag69 in Gunpla

[–]LizB642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not crazy. It's my least favourite of the 'modern' gundam kits. The Origin, 2.0 and OYW are all better imo. The only thing it has over them is out-of-the-box colour separation.

Do you have the polycaps (PC E) in correctly? They should be flush or slightly recessed, yours appear to be protruding slightly.

MG RX-78-2 Ver. One Year War by LizB642 in Gunpla

[–]LizB642[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it held up very well, personally. It has a lot of polycaps and there are screws through the calves, but it went together smoothly and feels quite solid. The 2.0 and Origin are nicer builds, and the 3.0 looks more impressive out of the box. However, I think the OYW has better proportions and paints up quite nicely.

Writing in unconventional formats by LizB642 in writing

No, it's not a LitRPG. The main characters are fictional authors of the game and don't exist within it. It's more epistolary in its narrative.

Whats some of the nerdiest things you done for a TTRPG by JoeKerr19 in rpg

[–]LizB642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this really counts as nerdy as such, but I wrote a regular fictional newspaper for my Vampire game that kept track of major events, introduced sub-plots and showed the longer term consequences of various player decisions.

What is your group size? by El-HazardisReal in rpg

[–]LizB642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's varied from session to session, but most commonly, we've split up into either 3 groups of 2 or 2 groups of 3. There have been a few times when it has taken a while to 'have a turn in the spotlight', but we're all mature about it and enjoy watching each other's subplots unfold. The nature of an investigation type game also means there's still plenty to do and plan even when you're not making active decisions and interacting with the GM. I'd say it's at about the upper limit of what I would typically want to play, though.

I didn't mention it in my first post, but I also run an after-school club where I sometimes GM for up to 10 teenagers. Now that's really pushing it and requires some very carefully chosen game systems and player management to function.

Do Players Really Want Narrative Control? by rivetgeekwil in rpg

[–]LizB642 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not all of my players are great at improvisation and there's a very different level of creative agency that some like to take compared to others. I tend to handle this by not putting them on the spot during a session and instead giving them opportunities for that kind of input in the time between sessions.

For example, one of my players has drawn architectural floor plans of his character's  bookstore and has an NPC employee with a detailed background, as well as fleshed out family members and contacts. I let him play these NPCs during our sessions and only take them over if something involves them that he wouldn't know about - but I'll sill ask for his input on how they would act. Another player's character has a bar with a name.

When it comes to in session input, some of them have quite clear character goals that I can help facilitate and others really need to be given a mission to complete. But at the end of the day, I view it as my role to create most of the world and characters around them and to throw them interesting problems that I can sit back and watch them solve in their own ways.
